That Eta-class barge was really prominent in the Shield Gate sequence, it was literally an obstacle for those X-wings flying through.

The hangars are an exact match, it's undoubtedly a Quasar-Fire class.

Why do we think shuttles put their wings in landing configuration while transferring through the atmospheric dock?

VTOL activity mode. They're always up when moving up and down but they're in flight mode when moving horizontally.

My guess is that it's a security concern. Either they have to move under repulsorlift power or obviously reduce their maneuverability to make sure they are not trying to ram the gate or take off on an unapproved vector once through.

Conversely, maybe the maneuvering thrusters are on the edges of the wings, like Kylo Ren's shuttle. To fly straight down, the wings have to point straight up.

Let's tag anything spoilery for the season finale of Rebels. I don't want someone avoiding spoilers to wander into this thread and accidentally get spoiled.

All I see is an Interdictor split in half. I don't see Phoenix Home anywhere. Are you sure it's not wishful thinking?

Agreed. Furthermore, since we often capital ships floating around in the atmosphere, but I can't remember ever seeing them actually fight except in the high upper atmosphere....my headcanon is that it takes so much power to make a hunk of metal like that float that they have minimal power for weapons and shields, and so it is risky to use them directly in atmospheric combat.

It's mentioned in the Battlefront: Twilight Company novel that it takes "full energy" to stay up:

    Chapter 38:

The deck shuddered again. Verge glanced about, legs slightly bowed for balance and lips twisted into a sneer. "This is an Imperial Star Destroyer. All vital equipment is shielded. Even twenty bombs will do nothing."
But that wasn't true. Taber shook his head, trying to organize his thoughts. Why wasn't it true? Think, Taber.
"We're in atmosphere," he said, embarrassed at his own urgent tone. "We need full power to stay aloft. Any disruption at all - " Star Destroyers were extraordinary vessels, capable of razing mountains and carrying armies. But their mass was measured in millions upon millions of tonnes, and their energy requirements were vast.
He made an effort to compose himself, to speak in a manner befitting an Imperial captain. "We must withdraw immediately," he said. He tapped his comlink. "Transfer all weapons and auxiliary power - anything we can spare - to the engines. Get us back in orbit."

    Rebels spoilers
so I think I was right. Two Nebulons would get destroyed so the exact number is 3 like at Scarif.

Huh? You mean one left off screen and the other two left at the end with the remaining ships? Yeah. I saw two get destroyed. One for sure and the other wrecked and certainly intended to be destroyed.

It escaped the orbital battle yes. But when the fleet was escaping Atollan in Part II, it wasn't there.

Rebel fleet losses from the Battle of Chopper Base:

    • 1 Quasar Fire Carrier
    • 3 Nebulon-B Frigates
    • 2 transports
    • 3 CR90 corvettes,
    • 1 Hammerhead corvette
    • 1 Dornean gunship
    • Multiple squadrons of A & Y-wings
If it wasn't for Konstantine's stupidity and the Bendu Thrawn would have wiped them all out. [face_whistling]

Something inspired by the "Bridges of Star Destroyers in the OT" thread over on the OT section of the forum - I've been thinking about Star Destroyer bridges in the context of the new canon - which images are atypical, and how can we explain them away in order to minimise the number of bridge variants?

I would suggest that the "First Catch of the Day" image from TESB:

can be most simply explained away by saying that he is not at the main bridge, but in one of the side alcoves for some reason (maybe it's better for targeting?) - which has been set to show what would be seen through the front windows.

To me, that makes more sense than trying to make the Avenger into a ship with a unique "command bridge", and having all other Imperial II-class Star Destroyers have a 3-panel front bridge.

As to what it looks like from the outside - probably similar to the Executor bridge as depicted in Complete Locations, or the Star Destroyers from Rebels - semi-circle projecting out from the main bridge surface:

instead of looking exactly like the TESB prop:

As for the Imperial I-class - presumably, since all Rogue One Star Destroyers, including the Devastator, use the same model - the Imperial I-class's tower now looks like this:

    instead of this:

only with the bridge module being a bit smaller relative to the rest of the tower- closer to the Rebels bridge in size - since the Imperial I-class is 1600m.

From the outside, the bridge module on all Star Destroyer towers needs to be less than 12.8m, too - since officially, the Executor's tower is 285m wide (Complete Locations) - and it's roughly the same size as the tower on both an Imperial I and an Imperial II.

About 10.3 m is roughly compatible with a 285m tower.

So, to sum up - all Imperial-class Star Destroyers (and the Executor) have a tower around 285m wide, have the same 9 window front bridge, 10.3m wide - and have two alcoves with 3-panel screens on them on either side of that bridge - with Captain Lennox being in one of those alcoves when he says "Our first catch of the day".

Do you think that works best?

Hmm, I'd peg the CR90 losses a lot higher. I counted five at one point, only one escapes. Ditto there were three Dornean gunships, only one escaped.

But yeah, major losses for sure. Phoenix Squadron and Massassi Groups are gonna need to rebuild big time.

Also- I LOVED the Nebulon-B bridge. Super cool looking.

Okay, final ship count (combined Phoenix Fleet + Massassi Fleet):

x1 Quasar Fire-class carrier Phoenix Nest (it got a name!) :D
x3 Nebulon-B escort frigates (including Dodonna's flagship, the Vanguard)
    x5 CR90 corvettes
    x3 Hammerhead-class corvettes
    x3 Dornean gunships
    x2 GR75 medium transports

    Only survivors = x2 Hammerhead, x1 CR90 (looks like Sato's Liberator), the Ghost, and a handful of A-wings and Y-wings. :(

The Imperial Fleet included x6 ISD's, x2 Interdictors, and x2 Arquitens-class light cruisers.

    What a battle!
