Not my favorite theory, but I'm open to just about anything if it makes sense. You're obviously drawing that line from the novelization. Give me more details, you definitely have me curious.

I'm cutting and pasting IncessantRamblings transcript of Jason Ward's quote from the latest NTIP since it's relevant for Rey and Kylo relationship:

You can listen to Jason talking about it from 1 hour 8 min mark here:

    http://makingstarwars.net/2017/05/episode-178-makingstarwars-nets-now-this-is-podcasting/

I recommend the whole thing cause there's really good stuff about costumes, porgs, Luke's neckless, etc.

"What her connection to the Force is" is intriguing part because we also know that she and Kylo have a connection though the Force too. Could that scare Luke or at least make him uneasy?

I was also waiting for this to come out on YT. really great analysis of the fight. They slowed down the video content so you have clear view of combatants' moves with a commentary:

Yes, because dismissive gifs really are argument winners.

I suspect that gif was meant less as "Retort" and more in the vein of "What I read just made me puke in my mouth a little". Not that I am siding with anyone over fun speculation... just saying there was probably not any actual "argument" to be had. :p

Of all the impractical costumes Padme wore, you think a belly baring outfit is the inappropriate one? That's one that made perfect sense. It was HOT; she wore light fabric, loose hair, and bared her stomach.

Is it the presence of a woman's exposed belly that makes it "inappropriate"?

Squeezing into a leather corset and putting on more makeup than you wear in your Kabuki queen guise in order to say, "You really need to stop finding me attractive" is the actual crime scene but please don't drag this too far away from her granddaughter and grandson, since the thread is about them. :p

The most inappropriate outfit was the nightgown with strands of pearls encasing her upper arms and torso. Who could sleep in that?

This Padme talk reminds me of how hazardous to one's health it is to be associated with the Skywalkers....Shmi, Padme, Han...

I'm of a mind Rey will likely be riding solo rather than being anyone's sweetheart for TLJ, but I've heard this theory too. I forget where I even read this, but my understanding of it is Rey and Ren have teamed up by the end and are trying to outrun the FO. Ren leaves her to face them himself leading to the "Rey in a cage" scenario. Don't know that I subscribe to it, but interesting theory anyway.

Shmi was a Skywalker. It was the Force that got associated with her!

I think the 'forcing the saber down and out of the way' she talks about is Kylo trying to disarm Rey. The hard hits make it look like he's trying to force it out of her hands.

yes, he spends much of the dual simply trying to wear rey down and disarm her. i agree that he doesn't want to harm rey in any lasting way.

That could change if he begins to percieve her as a rival for Snoke's attention/Vader's legacy.

With the loss of his smashed mask, perhaps Kylo could go Furry for his next costume.
A big cartoon wolf head with anime eyes. A Filoni suggestion.

    That would soften Rey's heart.

In the end, one of them has to go down. Someone needs to fall to raise the stakes for Episode IX. Is it Kylo falling into further ambiguity to rise in IX or is it Rey falling? I think it's probably Kylo.

That look on his face in the video breakdown, when he's staring at her on the cliff, trying to convince her to come to his side - I think that's a brief moment where a small part of him is beginning to rise into the light, only to have her (rightfully) reject him. I think he'll be even more conflicted in TLJ.

Falling isn't bad especially when it happens before the final movie. :)

Does anyone else wonder if Kylo's "I can take what I want" comment to Rey during the interrogation scene was...tonally out-of-place given SW's generally "family-friendly" reputation...?

hana_solo Agreed. If this is the route they're going, I think he'll end up coming into the light in IX, not TLJ. It's too soon - they've got to make the tension last as long as they can before what could be the climax of the trilogy.

    Nice Batman reference. :)

Currently leaning toward "Bratman," but I'm sure he'll evolve through 8 and 9.

I'd LOVE LOVE to some real Luke Skywalker-esque character growth in the ST from someone...

Bratman, bwahaha! Well, it is Rey's story so let's hope that level of growth comes from her at least.

Ae opposed to child-murder (Ep III) or ordering the of billions (ANH, TFA), Kylo ordering all the villagers massacred in the opening sequence of TFA? Those acts of violence are all pretty brutal.
