ST Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) in the ST

Leia has lost pretty much everything. Her husband. Her child. All the hope she had for the New Republic was crushed even before it was destroyed. That she's shown as running the Resistance doesn't necessarily mean she's still a strong symbol of hope, it means she's clinging on to the one thing that still gives her hope and purpose IMO. It's all she has left at this point, so she's going to focus on it with grim determination.

 

Are we sure its a kyber crystal? What if it's a red zip?

 

don't like it that Luke seems to have this red kyber around his neck. Only a darksider has this.

I could see it as a reminder of how the Force can be corrupted even in a good person.

 

RJ says that Luke has to feel he's doing the right thing. What if he's foreseen something but misread it. And what if he believes him remaining hidden is what is best for the galaxy. Could the Crystal play in to that? Or is it just a little grace note? Is there a situation where this is like a grander echo of Luke hiding in the throne room in ROTJ - because for some reason, Luke believes that if he fights, Snoke wins. And he can't find a way out of this bind / until Rey shows up.

Two reasons Luke could have the red Kyber - to keep it from Kylo/ Snoke. A reminder of the Skywalker failures - it's literally around his neck.

Neither of these involve Like being a dark sider. Which he's not going to be. The article makes it clear what Luke's issue is. It's not being evil.

 

If Luke was a darksider, that would be HUGE - do you really think they'd tip us off to that fact so casually in a piece of costuming?

Maybe it's to remind himself of the dangers of the DS.

 

Maybe because there's a symbolic reason why he's wearing that crystal round his neck like a millstone?

 

I doubt it'll even be mentioned on screen, but is just a costume design element that plays on the idea of Luke keeping something symbolic of his father's mistakes

 

Yes, he's wearing the Skywalker failure around his neck.

 

I guess that crystal was already red (Vaders?), the process probably isn;t reversable

 

Or part of the damaged crystal from Kylo's saber? A painful visual reminder of his betrayal.

Excellent point! We do not want Luke to spend the majority of movie running around making achcoo sounds.

 

I agree with a lot of you here ChildOfWinds. Also, it seems like Luke doesn't have a plan of some sorts. See, it would be a different story if Luke went to Ahch-to looking for answers, creating a plan and having a good reason for not showing up. This doesn't seem to be the case. What we have here is the 180 degree opposite of the Luke we knew from the OT.
It's really good that you mention that they didn't change Leia's or Han's character, they only did this with Luke, especially the one who didn't give up, WHY?????!!!!!!!!!

 

It could be the same Crystal split in two.

 

She's lost a lot true we acknowledge that, but her CHARACTER has stayed the same, it is still Leia, it's not a 180 degree turn of the character.

Yeah, there's nothing as dramatic as a guy who starts a movie off with a plan, and then executes it smoothly as a demonstration of quite how well he lived up to the expectations people projected onto him thirty years ago. ONE TICKET PLEASE!
