Ezra, Sabine and Zeb are still on my list. Ezra is on top of that list especially with the synopsis of the finale recently released.

I think Ezra is a goner to. I just don’t see him surviving the man himself.

I don't think anybody else is going to die from the main characters.

Perhaps one or two of the supporting cast, like Rex or Kallus, but that's it, and probably not even them.

From the bad guys, maybe Pryce, but there's a big chance she's just going to end up captured. Don't think they're going to kill off Thrawn and with Rukh they already had their chance and decided to just humiliate him.

I remember the time when people thought this show would not kill off a single main character.

Ezra could be a goner, but I'm still not 100% sure on that. Sabine I think will survive the series and end up back on Mandalore. Zeb likewise could survive the series and end up going to New Lasan at the end.

Ezra being a goner is the better path to take, one that respects his character.

He has become the type of person to not abandon his friends in their time of need (especially when they are dealing with the aftermath of Kanans death).

Also with Kanan gone, he is the last jedi amongst the Rebellion, increasing his importance to the cause.

So for those that say Ezra can choose to leave the Rebellion/Jedi path to get him out of the way for Lukes Journey, well that would be character assassination.

Now if this show had intended for Ezra to fall to the darkside, I could see a dark Ezra ditching his friends and their cause

But with the character development we have been given it makes the most sense for Ezra to die in the finale saving others like Kanan did. Dying as who he is, a good man and jedi who doesn't intentionally leave his friends side in their fight against the Empire.

Not only does this get him away from the OT era, but once the Imperials learn about his fate, they see the time of Jedi resistance as gone, explaining Tarkin's line about the fire of the Jedi going out in ANH. Which is true from a certain point of view for those who lack the knowledge of Yoda and Obiwan still being alive and before Luke becoming a jedi in training.

Well, we have that scene where Ezra's holding something back, with all that broken glass (transparasteel?) floating around. Maybe he goes out like Kanan does, only holding the atmosphere in until everyone else gets to safety. Then we get to watch someone die of exposure to vacuum, after already watching someone get cooked alive! Yay! The "Luke MUST be the Last Jedi" crowd will be so pleased.

I still think that there's gonna be some Force mumbo-jumbo and Ezra will be cut off from it somehow. He'll still be alive, but won't have the same connection.
It's been done in the old EU (Ulic Qel-Droma) and Luke Skywalker did something similar willingly in The Last Jedi. Or some other Force mumbo-jumbo happens and he becomes some sort of animal avatar of the Force as some are suspecting happened with Kanan and Ahsoka.

As for why he would/wouldn't stay in the Rebellion? I'm not sure. He could just fade into the background or be on the periphery of the rebellion rather than involved with where Luke ends up.

I just can't see Rebels outright killing Ezra, even in a sacrificial role. If that's what ends up happening, I'll be surprised. If the sacrifice was part of some Force thing like I mentioned above, where Ezra isn't killed but "transformed". Maybe . . . It could be heading down that route with the Loth-Wolves, the Force Owl, Bendu, the Lothal temple and the mural of the Father, Daughter and Son.

As a huge Hera fan and someone who definitely sees her as the leader, I'm still okay with her role in this arc. She came into the story as the anchor for the team in every way, and ascended to natural leadership in the rebellion... and we know she will return to that role. Right now, however, not only has she just been through some heavy stuff -- she wasn't destroyed by it but it's really raw -- we're also on Lothal and in mostly weird-Force-stuff territory, and now those are both Ezra's areas of expertise alone. Plus, Ezra is now her only real tether to that spirituality that was so important to Kanan; she's going to want to see where that leads.

My thoughts on Ezra's potential 'ending':
    • Ezra dies in the finale (off screen)
    • Goes off on his own and abandons the Rebellion (possible)
    • Becomes Snokes apprentice (again, we know Snoke had a prior one before Ben Solo)
    • Emperor's Hand becomes canon and Ezra joins the Empire (wild card theory)
    • He becomes a secret Sith Assassin for Vader (Starkiller theory)
    • His fate is open ended. Death is not hinted at and no explanation is given (highly unlikely. Dave is stressing things will be tied up)

My take: Ezra shuffles off to Mortis because...reasons. Perhaps we discover that there is a gateway between Lothal and the Mortis realm that becomes destabilised or something (perhaps Palpatine's involvement is because he's looking to exploit said gateway?), and Ezra ends up stuck there in an effort to prevent the destruction of Lothal.

I can't see them offing their main character on what is essentially a kids' show, and I think Filoni has always been more on the 'hopeful' end of the scale than the 'grimdark' end, so would likely avoid a seemingly downbeat ending for their protagonist.

That could help explain the "Protect The Past" part of the quote. I will admit that thought has also crossed my mind as well.

Yes! What was the full quote?

I've also seen people point out that there's a thus far unseen Kanan quote from one of the trailers - 'we are the balance' - which could hint at Ezra being the one to balance - or, ahem, bridge the two locations.

Something like "Protect the past" ... "Redeem the future". In a growly wolf voice that you need CC to really comprehend.

Imagine if "Restore past. Redeem future" is related to the Chosen One prophecy and is Rey's origins?

I expect at least a couple more of the main characters will die. Particularly Ezra. It's more likely he dies somehow, since that is heavily suggested by the state of things in ANH. If he does, I hope it's similar to how Kanan died. I also would like them to wrap up Ahsoka's story and give her a fitting ending as well. It would be a bitter sweet turn of events but would help tie Rebels into the movie saga IMHO.
