I registered for the Marvel Unlimited app again where you get access to 20,000+ comics for $15 (NZD) a month. And I’ve been reading a lot of comics already. I wish there was a way I could catch up on everything so I’m up to date, but that’s a near impossible task, especially with the crossover events. So I’m just reading all the newest series of the characters I like, or trying out new series I might like.

    Currently reading:
    • Civil War II (2016)
    • The Mighty Captain Marvel (2017)
    • All-New Guardians of the Galaxy (2017)
    • Rocket (2017)
    • Gamora (2016)
    • Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur (2015)
    • Nova (2016)

Those 2017 Rocket comics were gold.

For Free Comic Book Day I picked up:

The Ghost In The Shell. This is what I wanted most. It says there is a hardcover anthology coming in Sept.
    Relay
    One Punch Man
    The Metabaron
    Ultra Street Fighter 2
    Lady Mechanika

You were allowed to select your free comics? Cool. I am not sure if Midtown Comics changed their format, but when I went to their free comic book day in 2014, they gave everyone a bundle of every free comic in their store bags.

Glad you had a nice time and got what you wanted. :)

I am debating Avengers #1. Surprisingly, I really liked the preview I read (though the 1,000,000,000 B.C. Avengers are the characters that are interesting me since they are largely Aaron's and not steeped in too much continuity) and while I go back and forth with Ed McGuiness' art, the only thing that is giving me pause is the price point and that it's bi-weekly. I think I might wait on trades or digital sales. Suddenly realizing that the new Cap writer is VERY political which will mean unless I am utterly blown away by issue 1, I will drop book after that first issue.

A Marvel-'verse question for a fanfic: how do people think Danny Rand would dress if he was a she and instead of the Iron Fist, the Bride of Nine Spiders? I ask because the Bride don’t seem to have some kind of uniformed look, unlike the Iron Fist, if we go by the current Bride, the Bride of the 20’s and the first Bride.

There was a female Iron Fist. The burn from Shou lao was on her hip.

Oh man...just thinking of a panel in Old Man Hawkeye 4 made me immediately think of the ending of Infinity War
In the comic, Clint is mourning the murder of the Avengers so he drew the Avengers A in the dirt with his bow, only to wipe the A away into dust with his boot. Seeing the A rubbed out like that made me think of the dusting of characters in the movie.

I grabbed my FCBD stuff from Forbidden Planet - cause I was at the Strand anyway - but they were out of everything but Spider-Man. I'm a Nick Spencer apologist, but not really digging the issue, and I don't love Ed Mcguinnes, and the proto-Avengers contradicts a bunch of stories that I love, so I don't think I'm picking up the Avengers series. I'm sticking to just Terrifics, X-Men Red, and X-Men Blue trades.

I am picking up Cable, but just for the current arc. Cable as gun dad is the best Cable, and they've got a bunch of fun flashbacks to the Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix.

Incidentally, Marvel just did a big reprinted collection of that series, where Phoenix is misspelled on the cover.

I am only remotely interested in Aaron’s Avengers for the Celestials and Agamotto. After what he did to Strange and a good deal of what’s been done with Thor, I will hold out. If Christian Ward (the fill in artist on the upcoming Thor book) was drawing Avengers, I would buy it just for that.

Spencer is like Rick Remender to me; the less I read the better.

I hope Mark Ward does a better job with Strange in the reboot than he did in that The Doctor is Out story.

Remender's Uncanny X-Force is among the best comics of the twenty-first century, and deserves recognition as such. Uncanny Avengers can be generously described as a raging dumpster fire.

Glad I went to the comic shop for FCBD. Enjoyed reading the 5 free books I chose and I found a cool Loki 6" figure from Thor Ragnarok.

The Ghost in the Shell book was what I wanted.

Relay was interesting and I'll have to check with my shop to see if they will carry it.

The Street Fighter book had some great looking action moves.

If The Metabaron was on shelves every month I'd get it.

The One Punch Man comic was half a story.

    Didn't read Lady Mechanika yet.

Have spent the weekend as a volunteer on 'Stockholm's International Comics Festival'. The titles I brought or was gifted (on of the perks of being a volunteer) are:
    Prins Valiant, album 1-19
    Lanfeust från Troy, album 7 & 8
Gaston, album 14 (Swedish translation, don't know if it's the same as the French album 14)
    Pocket Fantasy by Valentin Seiche
Penguin Rumble by Joakim Waller (signed)
    Serienördens trädgårdsbok
    Martilo och helgonet
    Yoko Tsuno: De gåtfulla robotarna
    THB
Sons of Anarchy vol. 2 (Swedish translation)
Food Stuff part 1 & 2 by Marcus Jernberger
    Snoopy Parade
Beer, brewing & bastards: Herman Hednings brutalkompletta seriebiblel om ÖL
    Herman Hednings: Svammelsurium
(collecting all strips from 1998-2001 in one nice hardback)
hajime from Tokyo Collective (signed by one of the artists)
look book (signed by three of the artists)
Harajuku dreaming' (signed by the artist)

Not comics but found it's way to my bag:
Barbarella: Queen of the Galaxy (VHS)
    Faster Pussycat... Kill... Kill! (VHS)
    Herman Hedning flasköppnare 2.0 (a bottle-opener)
    Fantomen 2018 wall-almanac

My only real regret is that I did not get the time to buy vol. 1 of 北欧女子オーサが見つけた日本の不思議 and get it signed by Åsa Ekström

I know, there is also (now) Fongji, Pei and that Iron Fist who hang out with "The Continuity Headache Creating Avengers 10k BC" (b.t.w. dose she really count since she is way before the (so called) first Iron Fist who got trapped in the 8th city?), but I asked about the design for an alternative reality Bride of Nine Spiders not Iron Fist.

That's just that store's policy. I've been doing FCBD for eleven years now and I've always been allowed to pick up which comics I want. Same with everyone else. This year I grabbed "Star Wars Adventures" and "The Tick". I bought "DC Nation" #0, Action Comics Special and Action Comics #1,000. I also managed to pick up nineteen comics free from Dragon's Lair and bought 48 comics from Half-Price Books, plus got two free ones from them, thanks to my sister going with me this year to help with getting the stuff at Dragon's Lair. She went with me over there and I got Detective Comics #771 and Spider-Man's Tangled Web #21.

Ah, that makes perfect sense. Nice that you have options like that. I do not mind Midtown’s policy though - level the playing field.

Given that you live in NYC, it's probably why Midtown has that policy. I would wager that the other large city shops probably have similar policies. Since I'm in Omaha, Nebraska that's why there is a difference. As it is, the stores wind up having leftover product that's often given away the following year. Or at least the following large sale or event like the comic con. When I was going through Dragon's Lair's personal stock of free comics, I saw multiple copies of last year's product. Along with some of the previous years' material. And Half Price Books have carried a couple of the DC offerings like Superman/Batman #1 and the Batman Adventures #1.

Well Bendis Spider-Man tenure ended with a bit of a really low key but love-fest. Miles is sick in the hospital (which sort of explains his wonky new powers) and lots of people visit him and tell him they love him. I don't think the book did the best job of establishing Miles relationship with the younger hero champions (they sort of skirted in and out of the Civil War II tie in issues) who are there for him but it worked for his core family (and Ganke!). Bit of a teaser as to what is to come next for Miles, possible future working with Cable(!) .... but that may be kind of nothing cuz there's no Miles Spider-Man book in the next few months!

But he's got a movie in December so expecting a relaunch erm.... September, I'd wager. The Star Wars line is going crazy come May so I think my pull list could deal without Miles Spider-book for a few months.

I've heard that he might be relaunched as Spy-D in the comics proper, so who knows...
