Now that the entire 1st season of The Mandalorian has been released on Disney+, what are the chances of the season being released on blu-ray/DVD?

They had better. I want it on physical media. Mainly so that I can edit the first season into a 2-hour movie.

I never seriously considered them not releasing this on DVD/Blu-ray. I was intending to save my Mando re-watch until I can get a physical copy of it just to make it more special.

Is there a precedent for streaming shows not getting a physical release? [face_worried]

A friend wrote this to me in an email a few days ago: "Netflix tends to make DVDs most of the time. But Amazon goes the other way. They have the hugely popular Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on their streaming service. And they have never made DVDs. And there have been 3 seasons already. They didn't make one for the popular Bosch show either and there have been like 5 seasons of that."

I would be surprised if Disney don’t release a DVD/BR. Star Wars fans like physical media!

It will probaly be out by Christmas, next year. I was hoping they would announce and release it shortly after the finale but they haven't said anything yet. They would make a lot of money from selling physical copies, which I would much rather have than paying for Disney+.

Based on past history, they'll announce it during the summer and release it in fall (just too late for newcomers to catch up on S1 before S2 starts.)

I think Disney plus would still be cheaper if you ended up getting most of the Star Wars shows.

DVD/blu-rays can come with juicy episode commentaries and lovely background extras that AFAIK isn't on Plus.

Besides, the Mouse loves to make money and they have to know such a release will garner sales.

I think it will get one soon, probably near Season 2's release.

I hope the UK gets it though, since not only do we not officially have Mandalorian available to stream yet, but there's still been no word on us getting Resistance S1 on DVD either, despite its release in the states a few months back.

I used to care, but as someone whose life is far too nomadic for physical media collections, I’ve moved almost entirely to streaming and digital.

But the problem is Disney plus does include that stuff

I'm sure they will, but the release will be closer to when S2 goes live.

Physical media has always been a massive part of Disney's merchandising and, even in the digital age, there's really no reason why any of that should stop - particularly with 4K discs having a presence on the market.

Besides, it's also a terrific way for Disney to further promote Disney+ by including coupons with each purchase: "Love Season 1? Use this code to try Disney+ free for a month without commitment and catch the Season 2 right now!"

I think Star Wars Resistance came out 10 months after it's premier, maybe The Mandalorian will follow this schedule.

You mean actual episode commentaries with some of the creators? While watching the episode in question?

Not yet but I am sure if they make it they will. They have it for the movies

It would be great if we could get episode commentaries, interviews with the cast and crew, a behind the scenes documentary and some deleted scenes.

I'd love to see a Blu-ray release with lots of BTS content. Disney would be crazy not to release it physically.

The Disney+ streaming platform will also likely add that BTS content for the Mando.

Lego Star Wars the Freemaker Adventures season 2 still hasn't been released over here yet.
Only time will tell if that changes let alone Star Wars Resistance!

I don't think Disney will ignore the potential revenue from a release on disc, not to mention the added exposure to countless fans that didn't subscribe to the streaming service. Its in the same category as Stranger Things - too popular not to be released in another medium.

I wish Stranger Things was released physically outside of the US.
