ST I Have A Bad Feeling About This - The "Haters" Sanctuary

These are just sophisms to me. Many of us have big problems with the plot because we find it confusing and unclear. You just wrote a simplified version of the plot which erases half of the movie and it is actually quite confusing itself, at least to me. Imagine if I used your bullet points to explain the movie to someone:

palpatine needs rey to keep the sith alive.

Why? How? The very fact that you mention something so cryptical and fuzzy as a crucial aspect of the plot proves my point.

 

Wait, really?!? Why didn't Finn get a family?

 

One thing that is weird to me is how little gravitas was given to Ben bringing back Rey from the dead. When I read the spoilers, I expected a dramatic moment where he knowingly and heroically gave up his life for Rey (akin to when Jack Dawson makes the decision to stay off that raft so that Rose can live). Instead, he just resurrects her with no real effort on his part, and then they (barf) kiss, followed by (surprise!) Ben dropping dead. The whole premise of the scene is DOA for me anyway, but they didn't even try to make it look special or heroic from a Reylo perspective or difficult from a force power perspective.

I still can't believe they went there.

Ben saved someone from death
Anakin lost everything and caused the Galaxy immeasurable pain and suffering, including his own, because he was willing to lose his soul to learn how to do this.
Ben does it and it's like..oh well he learned it from Rey.
No, Rey healed a wound. Ben brought a lifeless corpse back from death.
So many missed opportunities....

 

I seriously thought Lando was hitting on her in that scene! I knew of the rumours that she might be his daughter, but then I saw how the scene played out and thought, 'Well that can't be right then...'

In regards to Finn, I agree with everyone's complaints about his story (or lack thereof) in TROS. Well, in this whole trilogy really. However, one thing I walked away with after TROS was an incredible love for his character. I thoroughly enjoyed him in TFA, but Rey was where my heart was at. TLJ was just bleh for both characters, and I had kind of ignored it hoping that TROS would be redemption for both of their storylines and I could just disregard TLJ. After TROS, I've seen the light. Rey is basically destroyed for me. Knowing in advance what was coming, it was hard for me to even look at her on screen. It's like learning your best friend is secretly, um, a Nazi sympathizer or something. It was jarring, and I felt a disconnect to the character that really contributed to destroying the movie for me.

However, I feel like I had a revelation in regards to Finn. He is such an inspirational character. Loving, supportive, willing to sacrifice himself for the greater good. Brave. Understands the difference between right and wrong. Sadly, that kind of morality is something lacking in this trilogy. He really touched me, and was one of the few things I enjoyed in TROS.

A part of me would love to see more content with Finn, and the other part of me hopes they never touch his character again because they would probably destroy him.

 

I'm so with you on this. Idgaf what Rey does now, I don't like her anymore. I want Finn to be happy and have friends who treat him better than she did. Finn and Poe need to get matching tattoos and do karaoke together. Bring Rose and Connix and go on a cruise together. Have a blast, y'all don't need a "friend" like Rey who abandoned you and ran away to mope, with no intention of returning ever.

 

We are hating on the fact that TROS has the highest amount of "Huh?" issues than any of the rest of the SW films. Even than TLJ, which has other problems, mostly in the "What? GTFO here" category. Yes, we know that every single Star Wars film has "problems" if you microanalyze it to death. The problem with TROS is that it has a few scenes that make sense between the hundreds of nonsensical "huh" moments, instead of the opposite.

I thought his last name was Stormtraitor? Would make a great pair with Rey Skywalker.

He doesn't even do his quivering lip thing. But on the plus side, Adam Driver is kinda awesome with the blue lightsaber, and the scene against the Knights of Ren is pretty good. But how is this possible?! How does he not speak his mind in front of Palpatine, or with Rey when they stand together, or when he climbs from the abyss of Moria? Did Rey Force Heal him like the witch in GoT and now he's just a zombie that doesn't really feel anything and cannot speak? Kaldrogo Ren?

He could have been oblivious to the fact he's a father. Back in the day he used to be a player. Maybe he's got more than one kid. Maybe Finn is a Calrissian.

 

They forgot about the Illuminati/secret society component of the Sith.
Didn't they have a random Resistance guy spout some stuff about how it's the dark magic of the Sith that has brought Palpatine back or something along those lines?

The Sith and Jedi are omnipresent celebrity figures in these new movies rather than a secret society that has operated in the shadows for centuries and seeks legitimacy (Sith) and covert diplomats (Jedi).

It's all very reminiscent of those scenes in the Spider-Man movies where kids are wearing Spidey shirts & costumes etc.

Sith fleet, Sith troopers, Sith cultists... everyone's a fan & getting in on the action.

 

According to the Visual Dictionary Rey had a sidekick assistant that was very helpful in deciphering original passages of the sacred Jedi Texts and Luke's cryptic notes . That character was Dominic Monaghan's Beaumont Kin. This character is supposed to be expert resident space Henry Jones type history professor/archeologist/militiaman-commando/ occult specialist/ dead language specialist extraordinaire that knows just about everything on the Jedi and the Sith including the Sith language. He made trips to Moraband, Malachor and Devaron. Pretty useless in the movie cept for his little scenes about the Sith language and talking about the dark science , cloning and secrets of the Sith for Palpatine's return.

 

Wait a minute? If the Resistance knows that Palpatine is a Sith Lord and has some Sith science or stuff, why are people still referring to him as the Emperor? That gives him legitimacy over the galaxy that he doesn't deserved. He should have been defamed as Darth Sidious, the true name of Sheev Palpatine.

You might be able to read one of the lines in such a way as to decide that yes, there it is but overtly? Nope.

Re - Last Shot

Yep, that is a shame. I found it one of the weaker books but it doesn't deserve being overwritten.

 

Ian's pervy character from Sleepy Hallow..come to think of it there was quite a few Sith Lords in that movie.
