The Death Star 2 destroying co-pilot, Nien Nunb doesn’t know the word retirement & can’t be killed.

There was an old TFA thread for him but it was locked in the ST merger. I asked permission to unlock and was granted approval to create a new ST for everyone’s favorite survivalist Sallustan.

NOTE: There are rumors swirling about characters for IX but it’s important to note that this forum is for VII & VIII discussion and fan speculation only. Leaks on actual casting are not permitted and have been removed before with bans already (I witnessed them) so resist the urge to do anything but discuss just how ageless and unkillable Nien Nunb remains.

I would always prefer they utilize classic characters like Nien as opposed to creating new ones. It would be great to see him back with Lando in the Falcon.

He is the best. He can kill a Death Star with his laugh.

I think he is Plagueis and the destruction of the second Death Star was his revenge on Palpatine

I hope this is the correct thread now, after the forum mergers. I searched and it seemed like other Nien Nunb threads are now closed, but if I missed once, I sincerely apologize.

I think most of us are all in agreement that it's pretty cool that both Nien Nunb and Mike Quinn appeared in this sequel trilogy. Now, my question is, what's his fate in IX? I spotted him a few times, but I wasn't sure if he was in any of the celebration shots at the end of the film, nor could I remember if I saw a shot of him getting killed off. I've seen a lot of debate on Twitter about his fate (Quinn has chimed in),it seems like there's some confusion. For context, I haven't consulted any books or other tie-in material, and so far I've only seen the film once.

So, did he make it, or not?

He died during the final battle. It was confirmed by the upcoming novel adaptation writer that according to JJ, he died during many of the x-wing explosions onscreen. And this will be expanded on in the novel.

He was piloting the Tantive. He is seen on the bridge of the Tantive when it temporarily loses control due to Sidious' lightning storm.

I saw an article today claiming that the Emperor's lightning killed him. If they aren't going to bother showing it on screen or referencing it, it didn't happen. He lives.

If I see a film and never see or hear about a character's death, I shouldn't have to read about said death in an article online. That isn't how you tell a story.

I agree they could have shown the corvette crash into the ground.

I came here to talk about how I thought Nien Nunb was one of the few characters handled with respect in the sequels, then I hear from this thread that he died? I saw the movie three times, this is news to me.
Fans were upset with Admiral Ackbar's handling by only explaining his offscreen death. But relegating Nien Nunb to a background death with absolutely no fanfare? They just outdid TLJ, but not in a good way.
He wasn't given a huge role in Return of the Jedi, but even bringing back a minor character has a lot of meaning to the fans. Especially when attention was paid to bringing back the original actor, and even the original voice actor, who had basically dropped off the grid and the crew from TFA had to locate him. His roles in the films weren't disappointing either. But when it came time to artificially raise the stakes by killing a beloved character, they did that in about the worst way possible. Funny that this happened in the original Blockade Runner as well, which was inexplicably returned to the hands of the Alliance. Bringing it back from the unknown, just to destroy it unceremoniously.

It's the Sequel trilogy, every time there is a film a SW character dies in it.

If it wasn't going to be Wedge or Lando, someone else had to be offed.

Mike Quinn is saying he didn't die. And the Tantive wasn't destroyed. May as well say he lived.

While I hope they'll retcon this (if the novel describes the ship as destroyed with all hands, yet the movie shows his co-pilot hugging at the end), I fear they'll go with "the shock killed him, and his co-pilot took over the controls when the shocks stopped"

There's still a chance that the Story Group will retcon it, but I'm not too optimistic.

Sigh. What did Ackbar and Nine Numb do to deserve this?
