That's why I said I don't think they hate him. They just don't respect him. He's the weird kid.

I thought that the PT took some flack in Hollywood because it wasn't a union gig which probably led to PT getting snubbed at the Oscars for nominations (aside from the TPM VFX which I think was it). In fact Gary Oldman was supposed to play General Grevious (which will oddly stick in my head until the day I die) and he bowed out because it wasn't a SAG gig.

the DMG website states: "Gary was offered, and agreed to perform in the film, in fact he was excited and looking forward to the work. The snag that made it impossible however is that this film is being made as a non-SAG (Screen Actor's Guild) film. George Lucas and gang agreed to hire Gary Oldman if he in fact would become a union buster, and perform work illegally overseas. As a resident of America, and also a member of SAG, out of respect and solidarity with the other members, he could not and would not consider violating his union's rules."

    About Original Score.

The Academy has rules about it, that it must have been created for the specific film and they also have rules about reusing music and this may cause a film to be non eligible.

How old this rule I don't know for sure but it seems to have come about in 2002/2003 and initially the rules were quite strict about re-using music. Even films that had over 80% new music could get deemed non eligible.
They seem to have relaxed it a bit in later years and now there is some unofficial 50/50 rule. So a score needs 50% new music.
But it it is still not applied consistently.
I read an article about the score for Birdman and Black Swan, who both were deemed non eligible for score due to some reused music and the composer for Birdman questioned the ruling but was not successful.

The nominations are made by the various guilds, not the academy as a whole.
So the Costumers Designers Guild make the nominations and then the academy votes on who wins.

Lucas has had falling out with some guilds, like the DGA/WGA when they fined him/Kershner for his lack of credit at the start of ESB.
A bit small-minded and petty on the DGA's part I feel.
Apparently the issue was that they figured that Lucas got credit via the Lucasfilm logo but since Kershner was the director he must also get credit at the start and since he didn't, they took issue with it.

But Lucas is not the only person that had problems with the WGA, Terry Gilliam had a conflict about Fear and Loathing film and they deemed that he and his writing partner had not actually written the script that they had written.
So he had to fight a lot and in the end he and his co-writer got the credit and Gilliam promptly burned his WGA card.

    Bye for now.

Yep - I see that as a constant missed opportunity. Oldman would have been fecking brilliant as the voice of Grievous (I always imagined Grievous as Oldman doing his Dracula voice).

Take the same visual effects effort from TROS throw it into any other better received art movie without the name Star Wars and you will guarantee an Oscar same for Sound and Score as well........

There is no relation of the critic score of a movie with the individual merits of parts of it. TROS was nominated for 3 technical categories, and the votes comes from the respective guilds representing people who work in each of the 3 nominated areas.

And I would not exchange 1000 Sonic crap movies for any Star Wars material. Not even the Holiday Special.

I think TROS could win for special effects. I don’t remember seeing a scene where the effects took me out the movie. Who else is nominated in this category? Endgame, Lion King, are the two other movies that come to my mind immediately with a vast amount of special effects. I think TROS blended it’s CG effects and practical the best out of any movie I saw this year.

The score was good but didn’t really stand out in TROS. It was good but not stand out great. The most memorable piece of music I have heard this year in any TV or film would be The Mandalorian theme. Di dinnit dinnit nit niiiiiiiii, dini niiiii dini ni ni ni. Di dinnit dinnit nit niiiiiiiii, dini niiiii dini ni ni ni. Di diiiiii, di diiiii, di diiiii, di di di di diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii! Sorry I love that theme music. :D

Agreed. It’s just silly and obvious at this point....the snubs.

Not sure if Lucas’ issues with the DGA/Hollywood bear influence with the voting bodies for the technical awards. I might be stereotyping but they seem to be a less political crowd. *shrug*

Since the awards have come and gone and TROS didn't win anything, I'll go ahead and lock this thread.
