I'll going to do this over a couple of post, with each legion gets their own post. The post will be: presentations of possible Chapter names, maybe followed with a suggestion of fitting Chapter symbol, colours, and/or other lore. I will maybe have some suggestions of possible colour schemes and/or concepts.

    - IRON HANDS -
    Iron Tenth [= after pre-IH-name cognomen] – symbol: a iron symbol and a roman 10;
Storm Walkers [= after pre-IH-name cognomen] – chapter homeworld is wrecked by constant storms. Suggest using the rules for Space Wolves' Njal Stormcaller for the main Librarian if opponents allows it.
The Blood Wrought [= after Autek Mor’s cognomen] – Red Talons successor? Ultima Founding who’s masters fought under Autek Mor as a scout/similar before Cawl got his claws on him?
Blood Medusa/s [= after Shadrak ‘Bloody’ Meduson] – specialise in harrying warfare against greater enemies? Symbol is likely a medusa head; Colours: one side dark green (maybe metallic such), the other blood red; of some reason they feel like they should be allied to the Lilith Cult of the Mechanicus.

    Possible colours
    - Reversal of the classic = iron/chrome as the main colour with black for highlights/spot colours
    - Standard black but using a another metal colour (bronze, copper, brass, etcetera) or a oxidizes variant of metals (rust, verdigris).

    Concept
    - A Chapter whose contact with the Mechanicus have made them associate rust with disease and death (of machines) and use rust colours in the same way others pain images of bones on their armour.

Also here is my Homebrew Chapter Concepts generator's Chapter Specific Concepts for Iron Hands:
    1. Secretly uses some kind of forbidden maletek, like Cybernetic Resurrection.

    2. Is close to one of the esoteric, but still accepted (for now), fractions of the Mechanicus

    3. Has an unusual high amount of techmarines but doesn’t seem to be any closer to the Mechanicus then most other Chapters.

    4. Are the carriers of a letter of marque from the Adeptus Mechanicus Magicasts, granting them salvage rights wherever they roam.

    5. Strictly follow the orthodox belief of the Adeptus Mechanicus; any machine that don’t fully follow one of the divine STC:s are considered tech-heresy.

    6. Frequently partner with the Mechanicus in searching out archeotech, holy relics, and/or new sources of knowledge. This search/gather is likely often done to the point where these considerations outweigh other military factors.

    7. Works closely with Xenarites Mechanicus' faction.

    8. Works closely with Scions of the Iron Sphere Mechanicus' faction.

    9. Works closely with Organicists Mechanicus' faction.

    10. Works closely with Omnissiads Mechanicus' faction.

    11. Works closely with Levelists Mechanicus' faction.

    12. Works closely with Imperio-Cognisticians Mechanicus' faction.

    13. Works closely with Crucible Resolviate Mechanicus' faction.

    14. Works closely with Hippocrasian Sect Mechanicus' faction.

    15. Works closely with Khamrians Mechanicus' faction.

    16. There Techmarines are all also trained Transmechanic.

    17. Their Techmarines are all also trained Reclaimator.

    18. Their Techmarines are all also trained Lectro-Maester.

    19. Their Techmarines are all also trained Manipulus.

    20. Their Techmarines are also trained Electro-priests.

    21. A Chapter that don’t have Apothecary, instead it has an position unique for that Chapter that combines the role of both Apothecary and Techmarine.

    22. Their homeworld is wrecked by constant storms.

    23. Specialise in harrying warfare.

    24. They don’t have Iron Fathers. What have they instead filling their role?

    25. Have, relatively speaking, large amounts of arco-tech.

    26. An elite group of the Chapter is equipped with mirror shields.

    27. Don’t replace any body parts with cybernetics after the indoctrination process.

    28. The Chapter’s battle-brothers have long, red hair.

    29. Are allied with a specific Forge World, which have not just affected their wargear and equipment but also the warband’s culture.

    30. Have a high amount of Dreadnoughts.

    31. Don’t just replace their left hand but also their whole left arm with cybernetics after the indoctrination process.

    32. Any unsuccessful aspirants who failed to become Adeptus Astartes is lobotomised and turned into servitors.

    33. A Chapter that don’t have any Chapter-serfs. All the tasks usually done by serfs are probably done by servitors and/or the battle-brothers themselves.

    34. A Chapter that only communicate in Cant Mechanicus, and use text and/or speaker-servitors when needing to communicate with those who don’t understand that.

    35. A Chapter with a high amount of servitors that they are using in the field.

    36. Are guided, not by cold logic but, by furious passions and unleash their wrath upon the enemies of the Emperor.

    37. Have both Iron Fathers and Chaplains.

    38. The Chapter possesses extensive forge resources, allowing them to field an impressive amount of Space Marine equipment, in both number and variety.

    39. Make use of Land-Behemoths.

    40. Seemingly cold, logical and unfeeling, but have thought out history made decision only based on hate.

    41. Cold, logical and unfeeling - up to a point; when that point have been reached they turn into savage berserkers.

    42. A Chapter where all the techmarines are also trained techsorcists.

    43. A Chapter that scavenge the arms, armour and other equipment of Renegade Space Marines for their own use. Maybe they even scavenge from fallen allied Space Marines and/or Chaos Space Marines. The Chapter’s techmarines are likely trained in techno-exorcism and/or they have allied tech-priests who are.

    44. Large amount vehicles with long-range weaponry.

    45. Follow the Iron Hands’ structure with clan-companies.

    46. Follow the Iron Hands’ structure with clan-companies, but have more than ten clan-companies.

    47. Follow the Iron Hands’ structure with clan-companies, but have less than ten clan-companies.

    48. A Chapter who believes its vehicles are the true power of the force and their dreadnoughts the commanders.

    49. A Chapter that don’t have a Chapter-Master, instead its lead by a council consisting of the Chapter’s Dreadnoughts.

    50. All the Chapter’s dreadnoughts quickly lose their cold, logical and unfeeling nature and becoming nothing but berserkers, driven by their Primarchs hatred and rage.

    51. The Chapter’s dreadnoughts don’t seem to mentally degenerate when awake for longer times.

    52. When the battle-brothers speak they do so with a clipped, monotone, cold tone that is uncomfortably precise in detail as well as delivery.

    53. Has a notable strong rage that they try to keep in check by doing some form of artistic endeavours.

    54. Has a notable strong rage that they try to keep in check by crafting and/or engineering.

    55. Each battle-brother is expected to refine and maintain his own armour and weaponry.

    56. The Chapter’s leader/s has as advisor a female oracle. Is she a psyker, blessed by the emperor, or both, or something else?

    57. Has a focused hatred of toward the Emperor’s Children that make them do rash things if a chance to battle them appears.

    58. The Chapter’s battle-brothers all try to make regular pilgrimages to the Shrine of the Primarch on Medusa.

    59. The Chapter’s battle-brothers are accomplished weaponsmiths, often crafting their own weapons and establishing a link with its Machine Spirit. Likely the Marine will devote himself to mastering the weapon's use, and learn to fight with unbelievable skill and poise, also likely is that losing a bonded weapon is a mark of great shame resulting in terrible dishonour and shame, leading them to go to great lengths to reclaim one.

    60. A Chapter that has Battle-automatas in their armoury.

    61. Are quick to anger which they try to keep it under cheek by meditations, mental trainings, and/or similar.

    62. Traditionally dreadlock their hair

    63. Believe it’s wrong to not treat dead enemies with at least the minimum of respect that they treat their own dead.

    64. The Chapter’s battle-brothers have mechandrite-tentacles for hair.

    65. The Chapter’s Chapter-Master is chosen from the senior ranks of the techmarines.

    66. Have more than one Masters of the Forge.

    67. A Chapter so obsessed with its vendetta against a the Emperor’s Children that it is ready to break Imperial law and tradition to see the traitors slain.

    68. A Chapter that is close to one of the esoteric, but still accepted (for now), fractions of the Mechanicus.

    69. The Chapter do not tolerate failure. Those Marines who have failed their missions or duties likely lose all honours and rank they have gained, maybe even placed in a penitent company or given a penitent quest.

    70. The Chapter believe that every weapon has a spirit within that yearns for battle, and that this spirit must be maintained if a weapon is to aid them in combat. Likely for this reason, older, proven weapons are highly valuable to the Chapter. Possibly they go to great lengths to retrieve weapons that have been damaged or lost in battle, though those which are beyond repair are ceremonially salvaged in order that the spirit within may live on.
(I'm thinking about to turn #7-15 into one results in the future. Do people think I should do it?)

I would love to here peoples thoughts and if there is something you don't get.

    -------------------------------------------

Couple of things regarding pint one: I can't name them but I'm certain there was a Chapter that was declared wrong after being to long in the Warp; there is also that you don't need the whole Chapter to be mutated, just enough of them, and they don't need to suffer from the same mutation.

Regarding point two: no. "Courting with Chaos" indicate that they did it willingly, which is a very different story point from unwillingly coming out not-right after traveling/crusading in the Warp. There is also that "courting with Chaos" don't need to have them changed in mind or body as of the now. And "courting with Chaos" could mean that the Chapter has some forbidden weapons/technology/knowledge that could be useful for them that the mutation don't give them.

But that don't mean that those marines were allowed, or willing, to continue their linage; or that there was enough of them to create Chapters. We don't know that. Just as we don't know of any existing, pre-Bobby G's return, SW and Salamanders, successors.

Sorry I was not clear, what I meant was that since that SW's and Salamanders' companies are larger than a Codex company so can around a 100 marines be lost and there would still be enough for the company to continue.

The problem with that is that even the high IG officers that oversee planetary battles often have little control about what gets shipped to them and in what quantities. They also can't really stop the navy-boys from noticing if a unknown ship appear, and then send a lander to land near them.

But that's in practise just having a planetary governor or the population of a planet ally.

I have to admit that I assumed that each result would have some presentation of the result and suggestions how it could have happened. Like how they did it in Deathwatch RPG and the ancient Realm of Chaos book

What do you base that on? What I have seen so are SM cybernetics portrayed as being of high standards and they are able to put lots of stuff in their members, including psybertech, and maintain it.

Are you not moving the goal post here?
Also, did he complain about Lorgar also? Did not know that, know about him voicing a dislike for Curze, Alpharius and Malcador's methods.

We know of at least one Crimson Fist that let his pride get the better of him and made a mission fail because of that.

The Black Templars has shown some real pride.

The Hammer of Dorn are described as "taking their pride in their Primarch way beyond the norm."

They may not wear their pride on their sleeve but they do know pride.

Just wondering, how do that work?

I found it out in the Lexicanum's page on the Emperor's Champion, where they refer to "Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II — Holy Arms of the Champion, wargear selection screen"

    @Gamiel
I like the idea Iron Tenth or Storm Workers . Having Blood or Bloody in the chapter names should be limited to Blood Angels successors or the Emperor dammed Magpies (the Blood Ravens)

Would take any other number to be honest, the tenth Legion is probably the most famouse Roman Legion, not counting the lost ones, as it was Caesars favored Legion and its heavilly accosiated with Bulls(For those of you who played this is also the reason why Caesars Legion has a Bull as their emblem instead of the Roman Aquilla). So if there would be ever something regarding a Roman 10 I would say it fits better with the Minators or a chapter in that direction. Sure the Iron Hands are the 10th legion but I just feel that would just waste an intresteing opportunity.

It doesn´t matter if its different mutation, if there is a mutation they are a goner.

Sorry but for the Imperium if you have mutation they will claim its your fault for not believing in the emperor enough, for not being pure enough. Thus anyone found with a mutation would be accused of Courting with Chaos no matter the cricumstance.

Well we know they massivley bolstered both UM and IF so there probably where quite a few of them. And we know that there are chapters that seem so utterly detached from everything Dorn and Gulliman stand for that its pretty obvious.

Sure on that for the Salamanders? I know its true for the Wolves but aren´t the Salamanders only on regular chapter strenght?

Thing is most of this also applies to the Navy especially if you consider how many people serve on the big ships. Just one officer on the bridge not agreeing with their commander can smuggle a message to the imperial authorties. This was actually on the Eisenstein where one of the officers when I remember correctly did warn the traitors in the end almost causing the ships destuction.

Not quite as its not just the gov but also the Armed forces and the Justice system as the Commisar of the regiment usually becomes Head Arbites in such a case.

For me that´s always too much handholding. I would prefer a short and to the point result.

Sorry but a) you are the one who brought up the various different specifications of the Adeputs Mechanicus so even of the AM only some could do it. And b) if its so easy to create and maintain Skitarii why hasn´t the empire simply turned the entire, or at least a large number of the Astra Militarum into utterly loyal soldiers who never tire and never run away? There is a reason Skitarii forces are comparativley rare in the galaxy and that´s their huge maintenance cost and the level of skill needed to keep them going. Something I doubt Tech Marines have.

No what I´m saying is Dorns view was "the Imperial Laws should be stricter than the ones we currently have" while the CL is litterally the oppositte to that.

I think he found him pathetic, incompetend and probably hated him for trying to subvert the Imperial Truth.

Not sure wich example you mean but the one I think, that was one Scout and it was more self overestimation rather than pride. Also in the end said Scout was lobotomised for his own initative. Again showing that the Fists aren´t free thinkers in the slightest.

Sorry but where is that? The BT are utterly fanatical in the emperor and their desire to make up for failing him, there is no pride.

Oh great one sentence about a chapter that has little to no lore at all. But even then its pride in Dorn, not pride in themselves.

Can you clarify wich one you mean?

First I´m not even sure if the wargear is canon cause the BR having all this stuff would put them at the **** list of the entire Imperium. Second Relic doesn´t understand the Lore, they have: Called a clear First Company Honor Guard, made the most Xenophobic Eldar faction ally with the Imperium twice, have cowardly Khornate Chaos Lords, have Khorne Socceres, retconned their own lore at various points and produced the abomination that is DoW3, so I wouldn´t be too focused on lore they produce, they might as well believe that Emperors Champion is a rank in all SM chapters. c) Maybe the Ravens took the equippment from the BT or another Dornian chapter?

realised today that it should not be a Roman ten but a Greek one since the Iron Hands are Greek-ish, not Roman-ish

    why do you think that?

    can you expand on this?

Thing is to me the Iron Tenth Feels like waste on the IH. Cause all that really offers would be a chapter that is largley a carbon copy of the Hands. While at the same time the 10th Legion is something with a historical value. A meaning and a story behind it, so I feel if one where to do something related to that Number it should include the Bull aspect. Something that is not really present nor fitting for an Iron Hands succesor.

Like I would imagine a chapter with that thematic to be related to say the Minators and have maybe something like this as their heraldry:

Maybe them also having various Roman elements but more focused on Roman Soldiers and less on the rest of the civilization.

Why do you think a IH-successor called the Iron Tenth Chapter would be largley a carbon copy of the IH?

Why do you think the bull is not fitting?

You know there is at least two more named Chapters that has a bull theme, beside the Minators? And why do you think that a IH successor can't be based on Legio X Fretensis and Legio X Gemina?

I mean if all I know so far of them is that they refer to a) the IRON part of the Legion and b) to their legion number there is nothing that makes me think they might be different. Also the Legions with less succesors generally tend to be more similar, like all DA succesors have the same Modus Operadi, same for almost all BA succesors.

Because Iron Hands are all about Machines, Metal and stocisim. Like they are the least bull headed SM there are, for them its cold logic. A bull instead stands for strong emotions like Hot Headed rage. Something that the Iron Hands abhor. Also I feel a Bull has something of a meditarianian flair to it, ewoking places like Italy or most of all Spain. Doesn´t fit at all with the ice cold Medusa.

I belive there are help me out tough.

Again the points above, plus the Iron hands also having no real connection to Rome. Just think about how the main colour people accociate with Romans in all of fiction is red and to a lesser extend gold. The two colours I would least think fit the Iron hands with their Black and White coulors. Red and Gold is far too bright.

    - SPACE WOLVES -
    Ice Lords [= after Arn Therod’s title] – suggest having an Ice World as homeworld; likely lots of ice/cold weapons. Colours: white and ice blue, maybe with some other spot colour. For cultural inspirations suggest looking at culture that live in areas with long winter and/or lots glaziers: Intuits, Eskimos, Tibetans, North Siberia, Sami, Native tribes of Northern Canada and Alaska;
Fimbul-wulf [= used as symbol for the SW reconnaissance units, the silent and deadly spirit of ice storms] – based on the name should they be suing Viking/Icelandic titles and names; since the Filmbulwinter have been used as a poetic name for the nuclear-winter after a nuclear war could there be some connection there, maybe their homeworld is an ex-War World, now Death World [sub.cat. cold/radiation].
Fell-Hands/Handed [= from Gaigor Fell-Hand and/or Bjorn the Fell-Handed] suggested symbol is a light/ice blue variant of the Red Crosiers’. If the name is chosen in honour of Bjorn the Fell-Handed maybe they style themselves after him and the Chapter-Master is chosen from their Dreadnoughts? Since “fell-handed deeds” sounds like something bad could they see themselves or be used in similar ways as the Minotaurs Chapter and/or having a kind of destroy everything and salt the earth mentality.
Hrimthursar [= from the SW term for their most grim and hateful Dreadnoughts during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy.] – suggest having an Ice World as homeworld; likely lots of ice/cold weapons. Colours: white and ice blue, maybe with some other spot colour; based on the name should they be suing Viking/Icelandic titles and names, but since the northern Scandinavia is Sami land do I think Sami names/titles and traditions could be used, and/or possibly are they somewhat larger than normal SM:s. Since Hrimthursar original was used for Dreadnoughts could it also mean that the Chapter has many Dreadnoughts.
Eldthursar [= from the SW term for the most violent of their Dreadnoughts during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy.] – There homeworld should have some kind of fire theme, maybe: highly volcanic; long dry summers that create yearly forest/plains fires; or maybe their fortress-monastery is a spacestation anchored around a burning gas giant or near a star. Colours: red, yellow and/or orange, maybe in flame patterns; or maybe they have one base colour (black, Fenris grey, bule, etcetera) that’s then covered with flame patterns. Likely lots of fire, melta and/or plasma weapons; based on the name should they be suing Viking/Icelandic titles and names, and/or possibly are they somewhat larger than normal SM:s. Since Eldthursar original was used for Dreadnoughts could it also mean that the Chapter has many Dreadnoughts.
Sons of Muspel [= from the cognomen for the Eldthursar] – see Eldthursar
Sons of Ymir [= from SW’s cognomen for the Hrimthursar] – see Hrimthursar

Also here is my Homebrew Chapter Concepts generator's Chapter Specific Concepts for Space Wolves:
    1. Recruit from the young fallen on battlefields.

    2. The Chapter’s Librarians are each followed by two psyber-ravens.

    3. Lots of psyber-ravens.

    4. Lots of psyber-wolves.

    5. Lots of psyber-wolves and -ravens.

    6. The Chapter’s Librarians are each followed by two psyber-wolves.

    7. The Chapter’s Librarians are each followed by two psyber-wolves and -ravens.

    8. Allied with a Squat faction.

    9. The Chapter’s Librarians/corresponding cast rune-stones/sticks as part of their rituals.

    10. Fights alongside lupine-animal, like wolves, direwolves, and/or even beast akin to Fenrisian wolves.

    11. A Chapter that send its battle-brothers, at a certain point of their service, to serve as bodyguards to the Chapter’s allied - could be a specific organisation; a specific sub-group (like a Navigator House); all the higher ups in sector/sub-sector where the Chapter’s fortress-monastery lay; or similar.

    12. The Chapter’s battle-brothers and serfs wear leather and bone masks intended to scare away evil-spirits.

    13. The Chapter is masters of rapid assault and encirclement.

    14. Believes thirteen to be an unlucky number.

    15. Allied to a Rogue Trader dynasty, from which's ships they take their recruits. Possibly do the dynasty’s main ships (if not all) have the protection of a squad of battle-brothers at all time.

    16. Recruits from the crews of void-ship.

    17. Specialise in harrying warfare.

    18. Seems unable to function as an organised combat unit above 37 battle-brothers (included the officers)

    19. They are fiercely anti-authoritarian toward anybody that has not shown themselves worthy to be followed (by their standards).

    20. Take human survivors of worlds they have pacified to serve as chapter-thralls and servitors, doing the most menial and undesirable thrall-tasks.

    21. Have a notable passion for eating, drinking, and storytelling, when not engaged in battle.

    22. Entomb their fallen aboard the Chapter’s ships.

    23. Specialise in fighting Chaos Sorcerers.

    24. Act loud and rowdy to hide their cunning and learning.

    25. The Chapter’s Rune Priests counterpart are more comparable to the standard Codex Librarian than the Rune Priests of the Space Wolves in teaching and powers.

    26. Has a sauna culture.

    27. Bury their dead in bogs.

    28. The Chapter’s Wolf-Priests/similar use a hand drum and drums on it when channelling their powers.

    29. Believe that battle-brothers that don’t die in battle are not allowed to join the halls of the honoured dead. This likely makes them weary of facing Nurgle forces.

    30. The Chapter is believed by the humans of their homeworld to be psychopomps and have begun to style themselves on the people’s idea on how a psychopomp should look and act.

    31. The Chapter is believed by the humans of their homeworld to be the war dead and have begun to style themselves on the people’s idea on how those should look and act.

    32. Put war-paint on themselves and/or their armour before battle.

    33. The Chapter’s Librarians sacrifices one of their eyes as part of their training.

    34. Many of them wear rings, bracelets, necklaces and similar by precious and/or shiny metals.

    35. Many of them wear rings, bracelets, necklaces and similar by precious and/or shiny metals. The higher up in ranks and/or glory the more piece of jewellery a SM wears.

    36. There homeworld is tidal locked with the dayside being super hot and volcanic, while the nightside being super cold and covered in glaziers.

    37. There homeworld is an Ice World with heavy volcanic activity.

    38. Large amount of wolves live in the Chapter’s fortress-monastery and on-board their ships.

    39. Have twelve Companies instead of the Codex standard of ten.

    40. The Chapter’s companies are each a self-contained unit responsible for its own recruiting and maintenance of its motorpool.

    41. A Chapter as headstrong as they are fierce.

    42. The Chapter excel at close-quarters fighting, the battle-brothers vying keenly for glory on the field of battle

    43. A Chapter that do not see the mark of the Wulfen as a curse but as the manifestation of their Primarch's awesome power within an imperfect vessel of the marine.

    44. The Chapter fears the Curse of the Wulfen and do much to prevent their battle-brothers to fall into that. Likely in the forms of wards and/or mental training, maybe also some kind of gene-therapy.

    45. The Chapter has a whole Chapter made up by those that has fallen to the Curse of the Wulfen.

    46. Very few of the Chapter’s battle-brothers fall to the Curse of the Wulfen.

    47. Those that succumb to the Curse of the Wulfen are abandoned, left to fend for themselves in combat.

    48. The Chapter’s distrust the standard types of Librarians but not those that are comparable to that of the Rune Priests of the Space Wolves, the Stormseers of the White Scars, and the Librarians of the Crimson Shades in teaching and powers.

    49. Believe they have the right to take whatever they need from planets they have brought back into compliance.

    50. Recruit from seafarers and coastal-dwellers.

    51. The Curse of the Wulfen affects many of the Chapter’s battle-brothers in mind if not in body, making a notable portion of the Chapter highly feral and animalistic in temper, mind and combat.

    52. There exist an elite group within the Chapter that lead less experienced packs into battle, or forma retinue for the Chapter’s mightiest warriors. It is not by age or maturity that one attains such a coveted rank, but by deed, and so a newly raised Blood Claw/similar has the same chance of joining their rank as does a veteran.

    53. The Chapter’s Marines live for the honour of battle, and it is almost certain that the younger battle-brothers will abandon a standard tactical structure in favour of simply rushing headlong at the enemy, howling at the tops of their voices.

    54. The Chapter relish the thrill of close combat above all else.

    55. The Chapter exhibit a fierce sense of loyalty to their comrades in arms and this is on occasion extended to their compatriots in other branches of the Imperium’s military.

    56. They have an overriding sense of duty and honour, and are driven ever onwards by a strong desire to right the many wrongs that have befallen the Imperium of Man since the Emperor walked the stars. It’s possible that their idea of duty, honour and/or what’s wrong with the Imperium is notably different from others.

    57. A Chapter made up by ferocious and aggressive warriors.

    58. Though far from mindless berserkers, the Chapter’s Marines are certainly possessed of a feral exuberance for battle.

    59. There exist an elite group within the Chapter made up by berserkers.

    60. The Chapter’s Marines often mark the eve of battle in bawdy celebration, raising overflowing jacks to brothers they may be mourning once battle is done. A battle-brother will drink and make merry, for tomorrow, he may die.

    61. As a group the Chapter’s Marines are blunt and plain speaking. Likely they abhor pretension and despise politicking.

    62. They are honest to a fault, and expect the same quality in those they fight alongside.

    63. As the battle-brothers age they grow more and more feral and animalistic, many of the Chapter’s Veterans are little more than Fenrisian Wolves in Space Marine shape.

    64. Are masters of mechanised warfare, so they quickly can get close enough to hit the enemy with their close combat weapons.

    65. Feel shame for their feral and animalistic tendencies.

    66. Aspirants that have fallen to Curse of the Wulfen are allowed to fight along full battle-brothers as a kind of combination of war-beasts and helots

    67. As a group the Chapter’s Marines are stubborn, wilful, and belligerent warriors, difficult to command but fearless in battle.

    68. A passionated Chapter, quick to anger and laughter.

    69. Highly honourable, most of them would rather lose a war then win it using dishonourable means. What they consider honourable and dishonourable may be a bit different from others ideas of those concepts.

    70. The Chapter regards martial ability and daring as the signs of a worthy warrior and inspirational leader. As a result, a battle-brother often attempt to outperform those around him in so called shows of bravery and skill. These attempts are likely often extremely reckless, and Marines are probably eager for new opportunities to prove themselves.

    71. Among the Chapter flamboyant displays of skill and bravery in the face of the enemy are viewed with the utmost respect and integral to a warrior’s standing within his Company. Officers regularly use such displays to cement their place as leader and inspire their forces to victory.

    72. Keep their hair and beard long and braided.

    73. A Chapter that specialized in tracking and hunting.

    74. Lots of cold and/or ice based weapons/wargear.

    75. The Chapter’s members carry fetishes and pelts of predators they have slain and eaten, oaths and charms binding their spirits to them to grant the wearer the dead's ferocity and speed.

    76. Have nothing but contempt for those who don’t fight and/or are a part of the war machine in some way during situations that call the appearance of Space Marines.

    77. Has a tradition to carry trophies from the battlefield and having the trophies adorning their armour or wargear.

    78. This Chapter believes that people who will not fight to defend themselves have no right to live as their freedom was purchased with others' blood.

    79. To honour their Primarch do they use lots of Leman Russ tanks.

    80. Know they are protecting a monumental secret, but have no idea what it is.

    81. Keep wolves as pets, either just as companions or also as beasts-of-war.

    Insp.: Vikings; Celts; Conan the Barbarian; pop-cultural interpretation of Vikings/similar; Germanic mythology; Norse mythology; Wagner; Barbarians of the north;
    Themes: wolves; barbarians; a façade of barbarianism hiding much cunning and understanding; loyalty to the superior and those you fight together with; a barbarian you call me then a barbarian I will be; werewolves; dislike sorcery but have no problem with cunning-craft;
    [Wolves = Capitoline Wolf = Rom]; [Norse mythology = Thor = Sebastian Thor];

Tend to don't need to mean that they most be, and how many successor Chapters from the IH or DA we actually seen much of the inner workings of? And I don't know if I would say the BA successors all have the same Modus Operadi and they absolutely do not have the same culture. Also, I would not call the BA a Legion "with less successors", they have over thirty named successors you know.

Also regarding the "Iron" part there are many Chapters that are not IH successors that have "iron" as part of their name, and many of the BA successors have "blood" as part of their name but are not largley carbon copies of the BA.

Doesn´t fit at all with the ice cold Medusa.[/QUOTE]
I would counter with that the Iron Hands already have something of a Mediterranean flair over them with their many small Greek-ish references. There is also the mythological Khalkotauroi (also known as the Colchis Bulls) which are bulls which would fit a IH successor good,* since they were created by the smith god Hephaistos and are described as having "feet of bronze [...] and bronze mouths"**
    * the same goes for Ultramarines, Iron Warriors, and Salamanders
** Apollonius Rhodius, Argonautica, I don't know which translation.

There is also a automobile manufacturer which has a bull as its logo – Lamborghini – combining bull and machinery. And Philip Sibbering has an interesting DIY chapter that is inspired by Wall Street, among others, and are close to the AdMech, the Tauromarch Corps aka Bull Guard. And the while we don’t know their linage beyond them being created from the Steel Confessors (whose linage is unknown) can I see the concept working for a IH successor.

Also, I would not say that the IH are ice cold, they are often described as having a burning hatred and great rage, they just keep it under more-or-less control and don’t act it out in such manners we usually associate with raging warriors. The Gorgon himself was known to have a notable temper. And the IH know they have anger problems, that’s one of the reason why they think the flesh is weak since they believe their rage comes from their flesh and therefor it was flesh that betrayed their Primarch when he let his anger rule him when should have been cold and logical.

The ones I automatically (more or less) know of are the Brazen Minotaurs and the Tauran Chapters, and when I looked it up do there also exist a White Minotaurs Chapter. There may be more out there.

Three of the IH successors we know of has red as part of their armour colours, and one other has gold.

And I would say (and I think GW agrees with me here) that to say that a Chapter can’t be inspired by a culture that their founding Legion has seemingly no connection to is to ignore all the ways Chapters culture can change through the generations and in a way say that you can only make successor Chapters whose inspiration/s are in some way already connected to their primogenitor Legion’s inspirations.

I can see that but at the same time so can they also be using the name as honour to ‘Bloody’ Meduson, indication of colour, as a way to point out that they will shead blood, and many other reasons why they would use "blood" as part of their name.

But they have something else in their name differantiating them from their parent legion. Whereas Iron Tenth calls to the IH in both parts of the name.

Okay so first this refernce is at best thrice removed from anything roman and second bronze is no metal that is much seen in relation with the IH. So the existance of a metal bull in a mythology that is several times removed from the IH doesn´t really offer much. If you go this far than you could make arguments for any legion to spawn a bull themed chapter.
Also in therms of Greek refernces that´s really more a IW or UM thing rather than IH.

Well just the words "inspired by Wall Street" makes me think this is a parody chapter.

That was only Manus and he died because of it. Since then the IH are utterly against this mindset, in fact they´ve been against it even before with many disowning Manus for falling to his emotions.

Maybe but bright colours don´t fit the IH and their succesors at all in my opinion.

Sure but this is in my opinion once again a case of "if you want ignore the lore" rather than something justified IU. Its like the old "if you want you can make a BA succesors that has no Black Rage or Red Thirst".

Maybe not. But canonically, several IH successors are fairly bright. Red Talons are at least as bright a red as the Blood Angels, Brazon Claws are bright red and blue, quartered, and Sons of Medusa are mostly neon green.

    Some things, we're stuck with.

    Longer comment later:
How would having a Roman-ish IH succsessor be against the lore? And Chapter culture/organisation is something notable different from their gene-seed tendencies

Or just have to accept that GW don't care about our ideas about how things should be.

For a long period, the Lamenters were a BA successor with no Black Rage or Red Thirst. Then theirs resurfaced.

Some successors diverge much more from their parent, than others.

Got my 1st book of order in. The Saint and I’m reminded why I stopped ordering from Amazon so long ago...this book is beat up, crinkles and creases. Ugh

My books back home I actually get from store can be resold like new even after multiple rereads.

I question this omnibus’s durability long term. It’s big and stiff(get your mind out the gutter) which I don’t like holding gently trying to preserve for long life spans.

Work in progess on Dark Angel with a missle launcher from tactical squad for my 40k Dark angels(aka my green boys) firdt bear head i am happy but that may be due to the augmetic and Astartes pattern baldness on this guy meaning i could just do a red dot for the eyes and no lips becuse mouth is covered

taking a break from Heresy era army for awhile as honestly the Lion El Jonson and The Knights Cenobium models are making me a little nervous as they are so detailed and i don't want to mess them up(want to wait for more pro's like Squigmar and maybe even Duncan Rhodes to paint them and post tutorials).
So i think i will work through primaris and 40K pile.

Gonna paint Master Lazarus Dark Angel 5th Company Master(DA equivalent to Captain) who crosef the rubicon Primaris Asmodai, a Primaris Librarian in Phobos armor ,beause he had robes so he fits DA better than the other Primaris Librarian model, the rest of thr first born tactical squad and a box of intercessors.

At the rate i am going with the odd weekend off to do otherstuff, maybe December for actually painting my Primarch. I hope by then i will be more confident in my painting ability.

    from https://www.warhammer-community.com...m-the-forge-seyni-ndiayes-adeptus-mechanicus/

"Fresh from the Forge: Seyni N’Diaye’s Adeptus Mechanicus

Inspiration for a new army can come from many places – Seyni N’Diaye found some when he was looking at his family’s roots. Rather than just creating a family tree, he built a new Adeptus Mechanicus army. Join us as he takes us through the birth of House Joolan.

Seyni: This army project started two years ago, firstly as a warband that I created for an online competition. At the time, I was deeply immersed in my father’s family roots and history, and this trail led me to Senegal. I enjoyed learning about the old feudal kingdom, its culture of animism, traditions, rites, and cultures held by my grandparents and ancestors. In those exciting times, I started to wonder where it would take me if I tried to explore all of this in a more personal way, with models, books, and brush in hand. So I did.

The Knight House was the perfect canvas – those human civilisations whose cultures are defined by the world where they live. That was a start, but I needed to visualise those humans outside of their armoured behemoths. The first two Armiger Knight pilots of House Joolan were kitbashed and painted, followed quickly by a higher-ranking scion, a kind of Sacristan,* and finally a servitor Ogryn cut in the same cloth. The House name Joolan came from one of the Senegalese ethnic groups known as the Diola from which my family hail.

The idea was there, and so was the beginning of the warband.

I took so much pleasure converting those models and working on their background and colours, that I decided to expand the warband into an army! I extended their background by doing more research on Warhammer lore and looked for new ways to infuse the themes on other models.

As the lore of my project grew, I decided to make this force an Ordo Reductor Mechanicum/Knight army. The large range of units and the mysterious, insular history of the Adeptus Mechanicus seduced me. It also gave me the opportunity to use the wonderful range of Forge World models from the Horus Heresy as I’m a huge fan of the Age of Darkness too.

Why the Ordo Reductor? A sub-faction of nomadic, warlike priests and mad scientists with the right to create huge weapons, a right given to them alone by the Emperor Himself? That was enough for me to sign up – plus they have Thallax robots! Finally, the background I wrote for this army is infused with tiny pieces of Senegalese culture that I mixed up with what I know about Warhammer 40,000.

On the modelling side, I used all that I could to give a unique look to my models. From Untamed Beasts in Warcry to Seraphon bits, passing by Space Marines, orruk, Necromunda, Horus Heresy stuff, and so on. I also used several Characters from the Genestealer Cults range – they’re an awesome base for making conversions – while other models like the Saberjaw-class Battle Automata were built entirely from my bits box. Nearly all the models were converted, with the goal to create something truly original.

After working with grey for my Carcharodons army, I wanted something more vivid and colourful for House Joolan. To stay on the theme, I chose to use green to represent the forest, such as you would find in the Senegalese region of Casamance, red for the African red earth, and yellow.

I tried to balance those with more desaturated and natural colours such as brown and beiges. I also played with textures, adding pelts, wooden items, and battle damage. I highlighted my green with white rather than yellow, and used blue shadows to get the particular green of House Joolan.

Lastly, as on my Carcharodon Space Marines, I added some freehand to the painting process. Bringing those extra little patterns, reminiscent of West African art, was really fun to do and added a lot of character to the whole force.

The bases are made with a red savannah in mind, as that’s how I imagine the ground of the vast subterranean settlements that House Joolan dwell in and patrol, outside of the main forges on their home world, Cayors. But these colours also bring a good contrast with the prevalent green of the models. To achieve this effect, I used a textured red paste with chunks of slate stone that I painted with Doombull Brown. I used Middenland Tufts, and then finally ochre pigments in order to better merge the model with this dusty environment.

On the tabletop side, I play this army either as Ordo Reductor allied with Knights for Horus Heresy games or as Adeptus Mechanicus with Knight allies for Warhammer 40,000 games.

I just started a Crusade campaign with my friends, and I can’t wait to see how this army will evolve with time.

Creating this army has been an incredible journey so far with a lot more to add lying ahead. Hopefully, this article will inspire you to explore the distant corners of the 41st Millennium – remember, your imagination is the only limit. You just have to reach out and create for yourself what you would like to see on YOUR tables and in YOUR stories.

Of course, this is only the beginning of the rise of House Joolan. Maybe some of you will hear the call of the war drums and add your writing pencils, cutters, paintbrushes, and dice to the muster…

For Cayor and the High King!

    Death hunt with us!

Thank you, Seyni! If that’s inspired you to begin your own Adeptus Mechanicus army then pick up the Start Collecting! Adeptus Mechanicus boxed set and get ready to give praise to the Omnissiah. It’s only logical.

    * Called Grios, after the nomad storytellers and knowledge holders in Senegal."

I love when they make Chonkier mechs for the Mechanicus, they tend to sometimes make the legs or arms too spindly sometimes, which is fine for the Tau or Craft world Aeldari but not for The Imperium or Orks.

I have no problem with spindly legs since the way it's usually used gives them a very insect/arachnoid like look, and I find that fitting.

What would you say if it was a Greek 10 instead of a Roman one?

    Yep.

Yes. But the Imperium’s reaction was not my point but the different lore beats it gives the Chapter’s background and possible current situation.

Maybe I have missed something, my impression was that the Lost Legionaries that was allowed to be alive was rather few. Where is it stated that they massively bolstered the UM and IF?

They have only seven companies, which are larger than then standard 100 Marines (to my understanding) when fully manned, don't know if the Chapter in go up to a 1000 marines all in all when fully manned.

What a navy captain can offer is that IG officers can’t is information about where the navy are and will be (at least in theory) and what’s being shipped where. Beside that so cant a captain or lesser officer really offer that much.

An admiral can also do that but with more accuracy and make the decisions where the navy’s ships are going, making some areas safe for the Renegades. An admiral can also make things being shipped to areas and have them just dropped or tell the ship to hand it over to any ship that gives the right codas and most people would think little of it.

The governor usually also controls all that, as in the justice system (not counting Arbitors) and the PDF. If she don’t she are nothing but a galleon figure and worthless as an ally.

I prefer a bit of presentation with different possibilities. Prevents one to just thinking of the obvious and believing that the obvious answer is the only one.

to comment on b) the reason we don't see them much is because they are AdMech only, and the AdMech (as the unhelpful spawns of toasters they are) only use them when it is a something that interest them involved or to protect their holdings, and only allow for technology to be used in the ways they see fit. There is probably areas of war where most of Imperial fighting forces are made up by skitarii, battle-automat, combat-servitors, Crimson Guardsmen and possibly even Forge Worlds IG (do anybody know if the Imperium tilts IG Regiments form Forge Worlds?) and normal IG regiments are just in light representation or non existing.

Now the mind-linking psyber-stuff are probably rather advanced and you need a special trained tech-priest to lead them to get the full effect but much of the other tech don't seems notably more advanced than your standard Space Marines stuff. And even regarding the psyber-tech is there possible that they can fix something up based on their own psyber-familiar and hypno-indoctrination tech.

There is also the possibility that their use of skitarii, battle-automata or similar is the reason why they were declared Renegade and they got them as a tilt or gift from a tech-priest or Forge World. Or maybe they stole them and subverted their programing and now the skitarii/similar thinks they are just fighting under some new tech-priest that have the right to order them around and don't realise (or are unable to see) that they are being tricked. Or maybe the skitarii are a payment from a heretech Forge World or 'priest for services done.

Have to disagree with you, I would say that you are moving the goal post here since the original thing was that Dorn, like the CL, complained about the methods of his fellow Imperial forces (who did not break any Imperial law by their acts).

Your comment misses that his initiative made a highly important mission fail, costing the lives of many, after he had been told not to.

They have pride in their colours, their ways,

You are changing the goal post here, we were just talking about pride not any specific kind of pride.

"The CL do encouradge that own initative alwas trumps orders" how do that work as an organisation?

Or maybe the Blood Ravens in ages past decided that the concept of an Emperor's Champion was a good idea, or maybe they are actually distant decendents of Dorn and them having a Emperor's Champion is a remain of that.

But that don't need to mean anything. Many of the UM's Second Foundings successors was named after previous cognomens but they did not turn into carbon copies of the UM. Depending on when a possible Iron Tenth Chapter was created so are there many different things that could lead to them turning out different from the IH, if they are Second or Ultima Founding is it possible that they take after the Pre-Manus IH so they have nothing of the ways of Medusa in their culture or organisation.

How is it thrice removed? Jason's travels and adventures was part of the Roman mythology after all.

My point was more that they were bulls created by Hephaistos/Vulcanus, meaning that they could be read as being mechanical, was from Greek/Roman mythology, and had metal parts.

Regarding "bronze is no metal that is much seen in relation with the IH" so is it still a metal and we have canon IH successors that have other metals in their name than iron.

Yes. That’s what I’m actually believing, that each Legion could spawn Chapter’s that has a bull as symbol (now different kinds of bull references fit more for different linages but in practice is it sometime more fun to get something you feel don’t fit to work together).

Will have to disagree, what I have seen do the IH has as much, if not more, Greek-ish references as the IW.

Not really more than any of GW’s own stuff.

It’s not only Manus, it’s mentioned in many places that the IH are filled with rage and anger.
