Is it worth getting it on dvd even though the bookends have been removed?

Are there any other changes that anyone is aware of?

Teenage Indy (older Corey Carrier) narrates where Hall formerly did

Seems to be the best thread for this, but The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles just got added to Paramount+, seemingly today with no fanfare. The only episode missing is Mystery of the Blues, weirdly enough the one with Ford in the bookend scenes. Otherwise it appears these are the re-edited versions that removed George Hall as Old Indy that Lucas released in 1999.

    Oh crap...

Peacock's Eye is the only one of those I ever saw, and I was very young at the time. I need to check these out...

Yeah, I never got around to watching these, so this is perfect timing. I just rewatched all four movies last week, so I can just keep the Indy kick going for a bit.

I love the show. Its pure Lucas and its just such an unique approach. I got me the UK DvDs Boxsets YEARS ago for a bargain and Iam glad I did! Would love to see a BD rerelease some time in the future!

Pity. I liked George Hall's bits.

But thank you for the heads up about Paramount Plus.

I'd love to watch this show (only seen a few episodes/movies), but it's not available on any streaming service in Sweden, and the DVDs have been out of print for a long time.

I thought the series was good, and I liked the Old Indy segments. And I'm still wondering how they're going to explain how Indy lost his eye at some point.

For as far as I’ve seen it, I certainly thought there were sections that were very good. I particularly liked the brief appearance of Max Von Sydow as Sigmund Freud.

Since I only managed to get around to watching them at the same time TCW was out, I agree that's the perfect way to look at it. You've got all of Lucas's expectations about what his audience can enjoy, learn from, and be engaged by, and that's reflected in both series: an investment in continuity, but not in continuous chronological storytelling, and a broad, almost insanely varied level of drama and maturity, where he clearly expected kids to enjoy a story of Indy and Henry stuck on an elevator talking all day alongside freakin' Dracula and WWI.

Like TCW, I think it's almost best approached by watching the episodes that most tickly someone personally, and being willing to skip others that don't.

I vaguely remember being entertained by the episodes they showed on TV in my country when I was growing up. I wish Lucas had done his Star Wars live action TV series. Maybe he wouldn't have sold to Disney then.

He sold the company because he wanted to retire and allow others to continue making Star Wars stories. How exactly would him making this tv-show have changed anything about that?

Retirement was only one of the reasons, the other was backlash from the rabid fanbase (according to Lucas himself). If the TV series was successful he might have reconsidered. And he didn't really need to sell the company to continue making Star Wars/Indy content. He could've hired Filoni or whomever to do it for him.

Retirement was the main reason. He certainly didn't like the hatred he got from some fans, but that clearly didn't stop him from making further content (The Clone Wars, working on the tv-show, preparing sequels, etc.), so this clearly wasn't what made him sell the company.

And no, he couldn't just let someone else run things.
    a) he wanted others to tell stories, not have one person run things the way he did
    b) Filoni hadn't done anything at that point to suggest that he was remotely close to acting in such a role, nor is he even close now. There is a difference between being a story-teller and carrying everything.
    c) if he was still technically in charge, he would need to finance everything, he would need to keep some level of control over everything, the exact things he didn't want to do
    d) ROTS was successful, and it didn't change his mind, why would the tv-show being a success be any different?

    There were exactly two options:
    - he would keep the company, and it would fall to the wayside at some point once he was gone, as no one else would know what to do now
    - he would sell it to someone he had chosen after careful considerations, allowing all he built to continue in the future

There is zero reason to assume that a successful tv-show would have changed anything. If anything, depending on when the show would have happened and how long it would have lasted, it would have made selling more likely, as he could hand things over while everything was running, instead of having to develop an entirely new trilogy as a sales-pitch.

No, but it is a different beast then the Indy movies. The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles is a historical drama series and the Indy movies are action adventure serials. So although they're the same character each approaches the character is a different way. You're mileage my vary.

It was an event when it first came to TV. I remember us gathering in the living room to watch every Episode. So my childhood nostalgia totally taints my view.

Yes, boring in the extreme. Somehow, this series managed to drain all the excitement out of historical events AND the Indiana Jones character. It's extremely well made, though.

There were a few moments of action and excitement, but they were few and far between. And they didn't hold a candle to the action in the films.

This series was about something else. Viewers were waiting for the villain of the week and the classic adventure. Lucas decided to show something different.

From Vicky, not Violet. And plays her young Elizabeth Hurley))

It's a pity the actor who played with Remi committed suicide in 2000.

I never got the feeling that the series had any connection to the character we saw in the films. It was more Indiana Gump, than Indiana Jones.
