People speak as if NASA launches of any sort do not benefit billionaires. NASA does not make all that stuff themselves. If you hate space travel because you think there are better things to spend money on, whataboutism does not work, and you'll just have to get over it.

Not sure how long Virgin Galactic will last. Branson sold all his shares so the company is on its own. So now they have to turn a profit and if they can they want to go orbital.

Bezos stepped down from Amazon to concentrate on Blue Origin, so this will be ongoing for some time. He donated 10 billion to climate change last year. Now if he would just have better treatment of his employees people will hate him less.

Musk is for the most part unstoppable. He'll get is rockets to Mars and at a very low cost. NASA would benefit from dumping SLS and just using SpaceX or use them as a provider.

After today events you just know Musk is in a zoom call right now angrily demanding that his rocket be redesigned to be even larger and even more blatantly phallic. We all suspect this to be true yes?

Musk hasn't gotten anything out of low Earth orbit, something the USSR and USA did over 60 years ago. That's quite a ways from Mars.

Well no, he did fire off a Tesla which made it at least that far. Also some of the payloads have gone to GEO. The Falcon Heavy can shoot a payload anywhere in the solar system but it is being replaced by Starship. I don't know how mant test shots he'll make but the first few trips to Mars with Starship will be unmanned.

I would much rather trust NASA to get us to Mars. I think space has a place in the future, but I want it to be government controlled. I don’t want bases on Mars or the moon that are controlled by these billionaires

I have nothing against Jeff Bezos and I have admit that I am a very regular and frequent user of Amazon, but watching video of him and others in capsule floating in space and throwing sweets at each other made me just think what a self-indulgent show of vulgarity this is. Maybe that sound like the sour grape, but I think of those dedicate astronauts who train for years and take their work so seriously, and here are billionaire and millionaire whooping it up just because they can.

Oh totally. I think the only person who deserved to be up there was Funk. She should have been up there decades ago.

The first construct on Mars will be an Amazon distribution center. And the wages will be horrific.

Quite a few astronomers, myself included, detest Musk's StarLink project. I know they are meant to make for accessible Internet, but if he puts up as many of those satellites as he hopes to StarLink going to make data reduction of optical ground-based observing a living hell.

Light pollution sucks ass. I used to live out in the KOUNtry and had black sky’s in almost all directions. Past 15 years brought the city out here and it’s a hell of a lot different story now. Only dark to the northwest but boy when those hurricanes knocked the power out for over a month it was the blackest sky I’ve ever seen. I also probably shouldn’t bitch to much about the current sky shade because it’s not even a fraction of what it’s like at my brothers in Houston. I could only see maybe 5-8 stars. It sucked.

Oh, I was mistaken. So separation is a normal part of this system. A two stage land splash down.
