That's a Free Comic Book Day release and it's likely a short preview of both the Edge of Balance manga and the Guardians of the Whills manga.

Somewhat off topic, but do Free comic book day comics get collated into their respective tpbs? I know there's a High Republic FCBD release that I would like to get, but I don't know if I can. Will that be part of a High Republic TPB?

Hard to say, it can be a bit erratic and I'm not that familiar with manga publishers, D might have a better answer.

She looks cool. From the synopsis she sounds older than she looks, which is good because we have enough "really young knights" and "Padawans who should be knights already" characters. I'm assuming it's the manga stylization that makes her look like one of those, but I'll be glad if she's something a little different.

So, I'm confused as to how and why this thing was "printed" (I use quotations since I'm on digital).

The pages go from left to right as is expected with a manga, but the panels and speech bubbles seem to flow from left to right, as in a western comic, unless I'm reading it wrong. This is a really odd decision. Presumably it was made to try to make reading it easier, but it seems to me likely to only confuse everyone.

For someone unfamiliar with manga, the book being printed seemingly "backwards" is going to be inherently confusing. I'm comfortable with manga, so having the speech bubbles flow the opposite direction than expected through me off.

Anyone else experiencing this or am I just coming at this from the wrong angle?

I've only seen the FCBD preview, but my understanding was that the English-language version would be printed in a format with which Western audiences would be comfortable - a front-to-back, left-to-right reading flow. Whether or not this is common for English-language manga in general I cannot say, but "The Legends of Luke Skywalker" (also from Viz Media) followed this format.

Do you mean one of these is right to left in the digital? Otherwise it's all standard Western order.

Sorry, when I said the "pages go from left to right" I was thinking about how you swipe from left to right to advance to the next page. Its confusing the way I worded it and I'm confusing myself trying to come up with the words to clarify lol

In short, digitally the pages are organized like every other Viz manga release. You go the opposite direction from the way you normally would reading a book in English. But the speech bubbles flow the same as an English comic book would. So reading this book digitally I have to constantly switch my brain from moving from page to page like in the direction a Japanese manga goes, but reading the panels and speech bubbles in the order an English comic goes.

If that makes sense. I'm not sure it does, but ultimately its very uncomfortable to read it the way it is right now.

If that's right then it seems like this was bungled in the digital version. Potentially they could fix this. That raises the question on the art being potentially reversed though lol

I see, that is odd. I'm not sure, I don't know how it's released in Japanese, but definitely in English it's supposed to be all Western order. The Star Wars "mangas" of late are less manga and more American comics that happen to be written and drawn by Japanese creators, but still published by a manga publisher and marketed as manga.

American favoritism at play I guess. No difference between US and UK editions far as I can tell, so you could get it from American Amazon or something if you really want.

I love the detailed beautiful art and the characters are well crafted. Lily is my new favourite High Republic Jedi putting Vern on second place now.

And I must say it made the Drengir even more formidable, evil and awesome than any previous appearance did with new revelations. Now I need some Drengir Horror stories or fairy tales in halloween themed George Mann publications!

Thanks. Sounds like a variation on why it takes longer to get hold of the YA SW hardbacks.

    Someone will get copies quick.

Yeah this was a fun little story. I liked the intergenerational cast, and how age and rank didn’t get in the way of who taught who lessons.

Also got a kick out of the bonus chapter- angry birds lol.

I liked this. Actually the best Drengir-Nihil connective tissue thus far (not that that's much of a challenge). Very much enjoy the mostly-single-planet look at a temple in this era and it's easy to like these characters. Wookiees look great in manga style. Wasn't expecting such an extensive guest shot from one of the "main cast" either and really liked that. And it goes without saying that Lily's sabers are totally boss.

Curious, looks like we might have a different co-author for each volume, though with Shinya working on all parts.
