Funny you should mention the Predator franchise, wonder who noticed the similarities between the 4 armed sand creature and the 4 armed Predator from the comic adaptation of Robert Rodriguez Predators?

Never read any Predator comics except for Batman vs Predator back in the early 90s in school. I just thought "Harryhausen" with that creature. But with the tuskens I was also kind of reminded of Predators (which wasn't directed by Rodriguez but pretty much is a Rodriguez film).

Say, is this supposed to be a one-off miniseries, or will there be a season 2?

Anyway, I watched it again—unusual for me these days—and still really liked it. Loved seeing Morrison as Boba Fett. And I particularly liked the use of flashbacks, like the AOTC callbacks. (Somewhat against my previous opinion, I remember posting at some point that I thought SW should stay away from flashbacks.) I hope they’ll continue to use flashbacks throughout the series and don’t just use them for the “setup.”

“But Yubnub,” you may ask, “apart from how Boba survived, and his rise to crime lord, what else could they flashback to?” Then I might answer that they could flash back to either the Clone Wars, or maybe some time before AOTC, to young Boba being on some mission with his dad, perhaps, or overlooking the clone factories.
“Well, wait a minute,” you might then astutely respond, “but surely that would require Daniel Logan-as-a-boy? I hate to break it to you, Count, but rumor has it that Daniel Logan is not a boy anymore! So how would they pull that off?” Were you to make me such an argument, I would undoubtedly (and even more astutely) respond that there definitely are ways to pull that off; they could, for instance, get any tween actor and put a helmet on him—one like his helmet in TCW, for instance—and perhaps use Logan’s voice. Or, alternatively, use unused footage of a Logan-as-a-boy. Or, they could find a lookalike. See, we’ve got all of these possibilities, and I’m totally out-astuting you. Why are you even arguing with me? Why are you still reading this, anyway?

Anyway, they probably won’t give me what I want, but I nevertheless have high hopes for this series.

I actually didn't like this first episode a lot, I was bored the entire way through and nothing really engaging happens IMO, I would probably give this like a 3/10 and I hope the next episode improves on the show a lot so I can look back on the first episode more fondly

They've never called it a limited series, but neither have they confirmed a season 2. I think Rodriguez mentioned in an interview that if it's successful Disney/LFL will probably want another season.

We'll probably find out by the time this season ends.

Crime Lord of what exactly though? I can’t be the only one wondering what exactly Boba is lording over. One of the few things we knew about Jabba was that he had slaves. Boba doesn’t like that. What else does Boba do? Who else is working for him? Is it just him and Fennec? What does Boba actually do? What does Boba actually do? What does Boba actually do????

What do you mean we have six more episodes? I need answers NOW.

I liked the four armed monster in the first ep. An endless sand covered wasteland like Tatooine is bound to have many undiscovered creatures lurking below the surface.

I think it received criticism because it looks a lot like a Harryhausen monster (which I love). But it doesn’t get enough praise for the realism of the CGI. That shot from behind as its torso rises out of the sand is one of the best visual effects I’ve seen in a long time.

The other bit of CGI that doesn’t receive enough praise is the Tusken’s dog. It looks incredibly solid.

It took a lot of unnatural computing for me to even acknowledge that there are people out there that don’t like that sort of thing in Star Wars.

Not to mention that the creature would be right at home on the holochess board.

A top 5 moment in AOTC is Obi Wan fending off a monster with a spear... *because* of how perfect of an homage it was. Even in his posture and the way he was jabbing.

If you're gonna put monsters in a series that is literally and admittedly one giant homage to older material, the monster scenes had better be nothing BUT Harryhausen.

Something I have found with fans of any fanboyish property: when they like something, everything is fine and dandy. But the moment something is released they don't like, even a little, they then show their true colours. Seen it a lot over the last couple of days. Some become quite Trollish and antagonistic, some become childish, a lot become incredibly nitpicky and petty (which was mysteriously never apparent before), and some can become downright nasty (which we saw a lot of with the ST). Admitting to being a fan of something deemed "nerdy" can be so embarrassing.

I didnt like episode one very mutch, hope it gets better from here. And think it will. I find annoying sometimes im reminded of CW bad. I get first episodes are slow start, so hope it picks up fast soon. Give me something more intresting then just walking around for an entire episode.

While I agree with this, I also think there is an opposite end to it. Many fans that do like smth start defending it viciously, even minor critiques and statements of personal opinion are suddenly taken personally. Because many people seem to need the validation of smth they thought was great being liked universally. And this then also spirales in vicious debate circles with the people that do want to troll. It is a fine line between objective critique and stating opinions to seeing ones own position as the only valid one, which is especially problematic with smth as subjective as art.

I think its getting worse tbh. I kinda fear the reaction to the Obi Wan show in a way.

I feel like we may have gotten past the joy of getting new Star Wars and are approaching the more spoilt self-entitled expectations

All star wars moving forward will be mixed no matter what. But as long as they are good, it dosen't matter.

Good is a point of view.

I read a review on sfgate.com and its the most overdramatic self-entitled review i read. Claiming it was worse than polio and that they would rather die than watch the next episode of this show.

It's why you don't listens to certain critics. Some are just weird. I didn't mutch like the first episode, but i will still watch the whole season.

Yeah some critics shouldn't be taken seriously that is totally over the top. But there is definetely also some legitimate critique. Read a review on tor.com that was also quite critical and I think put the finger on the reaaons why I liked but didn't love this too.

Rotten Tomato seems mixed on this show so far in both critics and audience.
