Kinda hilarious, considering Boba doesn't care one bit about anything Mandalorian, and Lucas himself said that neither Boba nor Jango are Mandalorians.
I would expect some Vode An in the actual THE MANDALORIAN show (like when Bo-Katan and her crew stormed the cruiser), but instead we get Mando'a in a show about Boba Fett crime boss, lol. So are they bringing Cuy'val Dar on the next Kamino flashback, or what [face_laugh]

Mando'a was created for Republic Commando and its tie-in EU novels, so the language traces back to the Fetts more so than the canon Mandalorians. The only Mandalorians in canon who speak it so far as we know are Clan Wren.

I’m very much enjoying Boba’s more complex persona, but I would like to see him go absolute ape **** on someone soon

Hard disagree and hard pass. Star Wars isn't something that needs to or should be R/18 rated. This is, at its heart, a space fantasy series for kids and families. Can you go darker, a la Revenge of the Sith? Sure, but that should be the absolute grimmest it gets.

I definitely think the gang looked appropriately star wars, but I do think they look more like a Coruscant gang than a Tatooine one. Perhaps they moved to Tatooine from another world? But it isn't a huge deal to me.

Here I thought the twins would be the main villains but it looks like it is the Pykes...or, I suppose since this something of a gangster movie, it is appropriate that things keep shifting around rather than having a single big bad.
Thinking more, I doubt the twins got the big introduction and models just to bow out this quickly, though admittedly I could see them being reserved for season 2 - after all, there was a lot in season 1 of the Mandalorian that didn't really come into play until season 2.

Boba getting a rancor he learns to ride...is a bit much, even by my on-the-nose-loving standards, but I confess I did like the scene of Boba bonding with it, and yeah, Danny Trejo as a rancor handler is on point. (Perhaps machete will finally kill in space?)

Loved the wookiee assassination attempt, interrupting Boba in this med pod, and taking basically the whole team to defeat. Should of brought the big gun he had earlier.

After coming in clutch more than once, I hope the Gamorreans get names eventually.

I am disappointed, if not surprised, by the Tuskens being wiped out. A lot of people were really loving the representation there, plus I think it would have been more interesting to come back as Boba's allies later....oh well - I will look forward to the biker gang being wiped out later.
Specifically the Nikto gang, not Boba's new recruits. Though I wouldn't be surprised if a few of them got iced as well, aside from the main two.

    No...it has been 100% inaccurate.

Or, I suppose, if one is being generous, 99% inaccurate, because some of the stuff it stole from earlier leaks were true in a broad sense, but even then the context is completely different than in this leak -
BK was sent by the hutts and not crimson dawn, the rancor is not muchi and not a mistreated creature owned by Bib Fortuna, the gang girls' introduction isn't like the leak said etc - nor did the leaks make mention of any of the things we have seen. Plus, it talked about Crimson Dawn like they were the first episode bad guys, not some late game twist.

I am aware. In TCW, Death Watch suicide bomber also spoke Concordian, which is kinda similar.
I just find it very ironic, that Mando'a was used in a show about a character who hasn't expressed any interest in anything Mandalorian on-screen, ever, and was just recently retconned back into being a Mandalorian. I think they should elaborate on that, give him some actual Mandalorian background (via Kamino flashbacks), otherwise it's just kind of pointless. Nice little bit of fan service, but without any deeper meaning to it.
Like I said, I'd expect it in The Mandalorian or in The Bad Batch, when clone commandos and Scorch were kicking, but not in a show about crime boss Boba Fett.

It can be hard to balance. I'm open to Star Wars that's more "adult." But on the other hand, I've actually thought the live action series are at times close to being a bit too violent for Star Wars. Of course the films had some dark stuff and slightly disturbing imagery, but I never really felt they made the violence feel particularly brutal in a way that's still supposed to have the audience thinking "so cool!"

Come on. We all know that the story of an orphaned farm boy, who gets caught up in a rescue plan to help a rebellion save a prince and destroy the Empire's new ultimate weapon, and in doing so learns that his dad wasn't who he thought he was, but was in fact a Jedi Knight and murdered by the most evil man in the galaxy, along with all the Jedi Knights who have been protecting the galaxy for over a thousand generations, and then promises to avenge his father, but that idea is quickly destroyed when he learns that his father is actually that most evil person in the galaxy, and instead of killing him like he thought he would, he decides that there's still a good person in there, and is determined to save him, and the galaxy.

Ya know. Fluff. Star Wars has only ever been about pew pew pew and its our stupid fault with crazy expectations to expect anything deeper or more serious.

Complicated it's not in Star Wars wheelhouse.

    Agreed.
It's true though, that it has had some pretty adult moments here and there. Uncle Owen and his wife's carbonized bodies, Leia being Jabba's slave, the Tusken's treatment of Anakin's mother, Rey's cave....

I generally agree with this, but believe that Andor will represent how far Lucasfilm is willing to push that envelope.

Further, if this is the ethic to adhere to, it seems strange to create a story about a crime boss. Pro tip. If you're not willing to go dark or complicated...don't make shows about criminal empires. ;)

Well maybe at the end Boba doesn't become a crime boss? You don't know. For all we know he realize that this isn't his path either.

Either way, I don't think most people will care and from what i see most people don't.

So, I loved at on first watch (11pm last night when it dropped) and I watched it again this morning, and still love it.

Black Krrsantan is incredible, i love this character and hope we see much more of him.

And....the bike/chase scene - incredible. Love the colors, look and feel. Why? Its SO different. This whole series has been so different to anything we have seen. And if it doesn't "feel" like Star Wars at times, Im ok with that. Mando, in all his/its magnificence.......still felt completely like Star Wars......Disney has decided to push the boundaries a little with TBOBF and I'm loving it.

For all those people who don't think the colorful speeder bikes look out of place. Really....? In a galaxy far, far away, filled with interesting beings, cultures and aesthetics, that is finally being explored and expanded upon, a little color seems out of place? Let me remind you, how much "un-Star Wars" the prequels feel - with a heck of a lot more color an shiny things that TBOBF has come up with.

Ok, loved some stuff about this episode, didn't quite love some other stuff.

Loooooooooooooooooooooooooved seeing Krrsantan in action, it was like watching a comic.

    The rancor was also awesome

    The pykes were awesome

Seeing the dead tuskens and the child's stick was like tering out my heart and stamping on it.

Loveed the major domo this episode.

And now onto this bad stuff.

The whole teenage biker one, apart from the main female one.

And the whole chase on the weird multicolored space vespas was hilariously slow [face_laugh]

But apart from that all good.

On the question of violence, The Clone Wars still remains the most violent Star Wars has ever been on-screen. Aside from Anakin burning, I suppose, but TCW had clones burning Geonosians with flamethrowers and Ki-Adi Mundi finishing them off with a lightsaber.
Not that everything necessarily needs to be overly edgy, but I'd expect a show about Boba Fett being a little more edgy than TV-Y7. Gives it grit and seriousness it requires.
Like, come on. Massive, extremely powerful wookiee slammed Boba, a weak and frail human, like it's nothing. I thought he was going to break his back or something when he grabbed him. Can't we have some bruises some scratches? It's just ridiculous. And then he comes out in his pajamas, and goes, "Get this Gammorean into my Bacta tank!" lol
Dude, you were just beaten like hell, and you somehow came out completely unscratched. Yet you needed a bacta treatment after some goons with electro sticks in the first episode. Weird.

Solo went way overboard with Han shooting Beckett in cold blood, which was just an F you to Lucas' family friendly idea. Rogue One had a lot of intense shootouts and very little levity. And while I love The Mandalorian, things like disintegrating the Jawas went too far for me. I think BoBF has been closer to Lucas' saga in its style of violence.

I don't think Star Wars has ONLY ever been fluff. Lucas' saga walked a tightrope between being able to be taken seriously and lightheartedness. But some people seem to prefer the Rogue One approach of taking the material super seriously with almost zero levity.

I fully expect him to NOT end up as a crime boss. I'm guessing it'll be something of a Yojimbo ending. But the point is not the ending. It's the rest of the show. Re-establishing power in a criminal empire is an inherently complicated story to tell that is being told...in a cartoonish and simplistic way. It's just an odd choice. They should've been willing to skate a little closer to the edge of non-family entertainment with this one.

That said, I'm still watching. And I might really enjoy the next episode. It's just a little disappointing to see something with so much potential only achieve...maybe an eight of that potential.

IDK...Seems like a choice Filoni would make in a TCW episode. Which honestly if you see the Filoni/Favrue stuff as just the Cartoons in live action, a lot of the choices just make sense.

If anything blame the fact that this a Filoni/Favrue project since I think that's just there style at this point.
