Lit The Essential Atlas and Galactic Cartography: Official Discussion

It was moreso than that - the Core Worlds generally didn't get a lot of development, nor did the ancient history of the Republic, at least until towards the end. Anaxes was in the same system as Axum, one of the major worlds of the Core, and the throneworld of the pre-Republic Azure Imperium.

For those that enjoy things like the Essential Atlas, Essential Guide to Warfare and so forth, it was cool. (And for the record, the two regional books were the only ones worth a damn for the original WOTC Star Wars RPG, even if individual entries - I'm looking at you, N'zoth - could be hot garbage).

 

Personally, until things get clarified I am going to go with the full 3 Anaxes -
The original in the core.
The rim shipyard, possibly a colony of the original.
A third one founded by survivors of the shipyard world after it was destroyed.

Frankly, we have seen this solution tried out enough times - Raxus, Kessel, Aquilaris, etc - that it seems like the natural solution to duplication at this point.

Especially since:
A) Plenty of places share names in the real world.
B) Some of the above world splitting was done with even less "need" Like, Aquilaris 1 mostly just appeared a few levels in an old video game, and the second one made a brief appearance in a comic series that wasn't super mainstream, and the only contradiction between them was their placements in a pair of even more obscure supplementary material, something not really important to their actual story appearances. It would be pretty easy to just retcon Aquilaris into the Gumni sector and ignore its earlier sector placing, but it was split in two instead.
Compare to that, splitting "the defender of the core" from an outer rim manufacturing world - especially since the terrain seems completely different as well from what I understand.

....I mean, I would just like to retcon out the whole "planet blew up thing" and have fort anaxes just be an asteroid base named after the original if for no other reason than Anaxes in TCW has a really cool and unique look that shouldn't be wasted by blowing it up, but I am going to let that go since that doesn't seem remotely likely.

 

So, hyperdrive speeds. I'm just going off a few data points I picked up from reading the NJO, but in Agents of Chaos I it's mentioned that it's a three day trip from Ord Mantell to Bilbringi for the Queen of Empire. Pulling up the galaxy map on Wookieepedia and then just using my fingers to eyeball the distance a bit, the diameter of the galaxy is about 13 times this distance. So that comes out to about 39 days to traverse the galaxy end to end...for an old ship like Queen of Empire.

Then Star by Star has the Sweet Surprise traveling from Carida to Coruscant in two days. Doing my rough measurement again, that comes out to about 20 days to traverse the galaxy.

But then, a rather big contradiction in Agents of Chaos II, which states that the Yuuzhan Vong fleet could reach Corellia from Hutt Space within 36 hours. At that speed, traversing the galaxy takes about 4 days. Okay, I get that these are warships and that the Yuuzhan Vong dovin basals are different from the infidels' mechanical hyperdrives...but still, five times faster than a smuggling vessel?

Anyone got any other numbers from other sources?

 

I know that in A New Hope, Han says they'll be at Alderaan at 0200 hours after escaping Tatooine. Not sure how helpful that is to what you're asking. Can't think of any EU examples at the moment.

 

Yeah, civilian. But I would think maybe a warship would be 1.5x or twice as fast at most. And smugglers probably modify their ships to go faster, probably not to the extent of the Millennium Falcon, but enough to close the gap somewhat.

As for routes, well I really don't know the specifics of how that works. But the trip from Nal Hutta to Corellia is a longer distance, and I would imagine that it would require more reversions and jumps, and therefore take more time.

But, seriously, give me the map. Gimme all the planet placements, especially for stuff like Fallen Order. I need it!

 

Apparently it's available as a poster at Celebration, so we may get sight of the map before the book's publication.

OH MY SWEET FORCE YES. Is this the first complete New Canon galaxy map? I know some sources straight-up reused the one from the Atlas.

This map is amazing. I love it so much. HOWEVER!!!!! I notice that Secundus Ando is not on the map. I take it that it is in the same system as Ando?

 

Where? my eyes are hurting still from trying to read everything... can anybody like mark them in the map for me?
