JCC Why does twitter suck so much ?

@BigAl6ft6 Read an article about Tom Anderson aka Tom from MySpace not too long ago. Basically he is living his best life. Has enough in the bank ($60 million) that he doesn't have to worry about it but isn't some billionaire d-bag that has so much that they don't know what to do with it other then try to hurt other people as they are afraid of losing their fortune. He is free of the spotlight so he just travels the world with family and friends while investing a bit in pet projects. Nobody thinks of him as a social media villain like Zuckerberg and now Musk for obvious reasons so to me while Tom might be a joke to some, to me he was one of the few that won one out in the social media wars.

@EHT The executives knew they were going to get fired from the get go but didn't care because they all are getting golden parachutes as they are shown the door which is why they push for it even though they knew Musk was going to destroy the platform. Amazing what some money can do to someone's values. Ted Dibiase was right everyone has a price.

@Runjedirun Well technically isn't this "social media"? I am right with you though overall. Deleted Facebook a good decade ago and never had Instagram. Again the only Twitter account I have is my professional one which we were talking as a stuff yesterday, many of us wanted to get rid of before Musk took over. The main audience for it is supposed to be the students but Twitter hasn't been "hip" (dating myself for saying that LOL!) for several years now. Like ten years ago it was such the rage that I had a friend of mine who was a semi high up at Twitter at that time (who btw is horrified by what is going on even though he isn't what you call a big liberal more like middle of the road aka not a MAGAer) speak at my school and he was a smash hit though I joke part of the reason why he was is due to the fact he brought free stuff for the kids. But the kids have honestly moved on to other social media forms like TikTok, Snapchat and Instagram. So honestly were really posting for the parents as the students only look at Twitter it seems when there is a possibility of a snow or cold day therefore are checking our school Twitter account for an update. I am honestly hoping long term we can ditch our school Twitter accounts. I never really like posting on it and never will.

@Jedi Knight Fett Agreed as Musk is a d-bag among d-bags despite his insistence that it will be more of a "open free public forum". It hasn't been 24 hours since he took over and already the site is being run by the worst of humanity it seems and just will get worse. And any threat made by companies pulling ad dollars won't matter because there will be other conservative ones willing to pick it up plus Facebook has proven that ad dollars really don't matter. Basically he is going to turn it into 4chan. Congrats Elon!

@Darth_Duck Yep and Elon has repeatedly tried to pay the kid off. The kid's response? "Honk off!". Sometimes the kids are alright!

 

I'm assuming that there's going to be a lot of talk from the average user about how they're going to quit using Twitter but most people will keep on using it.

Hey. I would rather be addicted to posting here than twitter. And at least I can admit it.

 

Until yesterday I logged into Twitter at least daily and I have already noticed it's not as active or a popular as it used to be. So it might not completely go away but I think like Facebook it's lost a lot of it's audience.

 

Fully understand why people are using this as the time to get off the site, but as for me:

I think @The Regular Mustache is correct that a lot of people will say they are deleting their accounts but won't but also I do think they will see less and less traffic from the average Twitter account and more and more from the troll accounts especially once Musk starts to make people pay for it. I think just like many migrated from Facebook to Twitter sooner then later many will migrate from Twitter to the next big next social media platform. Or as one my student said, "Twitter is for my parents while Facebook is for my grandparents!".

Right now Twitter is on fire though with Pelosi husband being attack (because some crazy MAGAer SOB was looking for Nancy and broke into their house with a hammer) and Giselle finally giving Tom the boot so right now Musk's takeover is getting second fiddle.

 

Oh is there speculation that Musk is going to make users pay to post on Twitter?

 

It's pretty crazy how FB went from being mainstream to the site Grandparents use. Even my mom has noticed this. She told me just this week that everyone on FB is her age. Ouch.
I won't be rushing to join another social media site. Not planning to ever join one, but I won't rule it out either .

 

Me: "I remember back when Facebook was restricted to just college students."

That's good, but you need to actually delete the account too (Twitter calls it "deactivate"). It still exists even if you've deleted the app from your phone.

 

I can beat that, remember Myspace...

 

I never had a Twitter so continuing to not have a Twitter is going to be relatively easy.

 

I deactivated FB in July and honestly haven’t thought about it since. The site brought no joy into my life and was basically just an automatic viewing each day, scrolling thru ads upon ads, and paid posts, and the occasional post by a “friend” who I never met in real life, while never seeing posts of my actual friends and fam.

I compare the experience with reading thru the yellow pages because you have nothing better to do. Only not as enjoyable.

 

Friendster came first by a year. I’m pretty sure MySpace put them out of business lol.

 

What really set MySpace apart were all of those beautiful pages that resulted from the totally customizable HTML.

 

It really is a dog eat dog world...
