Shin is a Nightsister according to MSW.

 

He comes across as physically imposing in a way many SW villains (live action at least) do not.

I agree. Its neat to see a senior powerful Force User other than Palpatine or Yoda.

Interesting rumor/leak. If true, and if Baylan is a former Jedi gone darkside, then it could be a kind of remixing the Terrence Malicos and Sister Merrin pairing from Jedi: Fallen Order

I’ve been watching a few of the interviews that have come out in the aftermath of the Ahsoka panel, and it’s come up a few times from Mikkelsen, Stevenson and Sakhno that there’s a bit more going on with their characters morality.

Stevenson even described Baylan as “reasonable” which does seem to ring true to him having some Jedi virtues.

 

He has a kind of regal composure, so wouldn't surprise me if there are some virtues to him. Compared to the demonic visages of Darth Maul, Palpatine, and techno-horror of Vader, he is a lot more magnetic. Dooku was regal too, but more like a magician.

I doubt he and Shin will have a traditional feudal lord/retainer obligation to Thrawn though, I can't imagine what holdings would bequeath to them to gain their loyalty. More likely it is a partnership of mutual benefit, I would guess. Been awhile since I read Heir to the Empire, but iirc Thrawn was a somewhat "enlightened" figure, at least compared to typical Imperial officers. His portrayal in Rebels was more sinister though. If he's closer to the old version, then perhaps he could win Baylan over to his cause, but I think it would need to be more than just Galactic Domination.

 

Perhaps the name of the critter attached to his head is Furato (like Kuato in Total Recall).
Furato is the brains, and Baylan is the brawn.
Or, maybe his name is Harry.

 

Hope the focus is on his apprentice.

I wonder if Baylan and Shin have any connection to the main antagonist of Jedi Survivor, who looks to be a High Republic Jedi who's been in stasis for centuries

 

Would LOVE for them to connect to the games and make Cal and his band of characters an active part of film / tv canon.

Also why some people think he’s an alternate universe Anakin is beyond me. If they were going to do something like that they would have just cast Hayden. Fan theories are weird

 

Anakin clone with a different look would be interesting, but I don't believe it for a moment.

Yep, but I also doubt they will be the same character. Inspired by yes. Hell he might even be a clone of a Jedi. But not Jorus or Joruus.
