I miss the fringe. In ROTJ and Rogue One she had a quality fringe. Maybe it's a war fringe.

Hasn’t aged more than a few months between 9ABY and 5 BBY?

5 BBY is when Andor takes place right?

I just hope (and suspect) that she manages to succeed in convincing the NR Senate Committee to authorize a mission to prevent Thrawn from galvanizing the disparate Imperial remnants. They can’t just let her go out with the whimper she went out with in Ep 3. Give her a success.

What an actress though. O’Reilly elevates everything she’s in.

The senator that Hera got into a spat with brought up good points, as he implied that Hera already has a history of allocating NR resources to searching in vain for Ezra. And he asks her to be honest that the search is more about Ezra than Thrawn, and when he states that he believes Ezra to be dead, she reacts emotionally,.

The audience knows that Thrawn is a threat and that his allies are looking for him, but the Senate committee did not have any evidence beyond Hera's word that the guy that had been missing for about a decade is really alive, which given her past history searching for Ezra and emotional outburst pretty much ruined her credibility.

I got the impression that Mon was sympathetic towards Hera, more so than any of the other senators, but I did not get the sense that she was particularly on Hera's side.in regards to sending a task force

EDIT: The Crewman warns Hera that Xiono is one of the senators with the Chancellor, implying they butted heads before over these kinds of request..

I hate the recasting thing, but I have to admit, she's my Mon Mothma now, so even though it makes my mind jump through some uncomfortable hoops, I'm happy to see her.

And no, this does not make me accept the notion of Sebastian Stan playing Luke, or Alden Ehrenreich or Donald Glover playing post-OT versions of their characters.

If anything it makes me blaspheme and wish for a special special edition of ROTJ, with O'Reilly as Mothma. :p

My guess is she’s unable to turn the NR Senate Committee opinion and it ultimately doesn’t end well for them. I think the stakes will rise before this season is over, and especially when Thrawn shows up, when he does I believe someone will not survive, and this act will be the catalyst for Leia to step in, up and take over.

Just my opinion. There has to be high stakes eventually, right?

I'm sure Lucas would be cool with that...sounds like something he would do. ;)

Yes. Instead of following up on O’Reilly’s great performance in Rogue One and Andor, lauded by fans and critics alike, by giving her a role in Ahsoka, they should’ve cast a digital animated mannequin instead. ;)

They could have given O'Reilly some make up to make her look more like Blakiston at least. But I assume her scene(s) for this show was shot on the set of Andor.

The RFR guys were speculating on the possibility that Thrawn will kill Mon. I honestly never considered the possibility of him interacting with her whatsoever, but I kind of like the idea. But I don’t think that would happen until the movie, if it ever were to happen.

I guess if he attacked Coruscant and devastated the political center and killed the Chancellor, it could explain why they are on Hosnian Prime in later years.

In the book “Bloodline,” the switch to Hosnian Prime was described as a political distancing from the formar Imperial capital, IIRC.

She was so great in Andor. It was sad seeing what she was given to work with on ep. 3 of Ahsoka.

Well, there was nothing wrong with her lines I don't think. It's the other Senators who came off as blockheads.

I still have hope that she'll convince the NR to confront Thrawn at some point.

I agree that I wish they had made her look a bit like her ROTJ appearance for those of us watching in timeline order!

Yeah, I could absolutely live with O’Reilly getting some makeup to make her look a little more like how Mothma should look in this era. To be clear I adore O’Reilly as Mon Mothma but it irritates me that Blakiston’s Mothma is now sandwiched between O’Reilly’s. Not as much as Luke, Han or Leia would bother me (that would basically be unwatchable for me) but it definitely takes me out of the moment a bit.

Out of curiosity I googled Mon Mothma's age and the actresses who played her. Mon (the character) was born 48BBY which would make her about 52 in RotJ. Blakiston was born in 1933 so if her scenes from RotJ were shot in 1982 she would have been around 49. At this point of the SW timeline the character of Mon Mothma would be about 57. O'Reilly is currently 46. So, about a 10 year age-up? Maybe add a few wrinkles or something? Idk if that's necessary. It's a slight stretch for me now that I know the ages of those involved but I can still buy it. (Feel free to correct my math if I got something wrong)

While she didn't have much to do in "Time to Fly," I think Mothma's restraint demonstrates how she might not be fully comfortable being back in the formal political arena. In some ways, we're kind of seeing a full circle situation from where she was in the first season of Andor, where she was exceedingly cautious while navigating murky pathways to get the Rebellion funded. The circumstances of her departure following the Ghorman massacre are still yet to be revealed, but it's clear that once she left the Imperial Senate and went on to spearhead the Rebellion, she was more willing to make assertive choices in combating the Empire.

I think once Thrawn truly emerges as the major threat of this era, she'll be more willing to marshal the New Republic forces to combat him, which I imagine will likely happen in Filoni's feature film.

In any case, O'Reilly remains superb even with such little screen time. She has barely five lines of dialogue, but her reaction shots speak even louder than her words.

It's been a few years sine the war ended. I wouldn't expect a woman who kept a "get up and go" wartime hairstyle to continue with that look now that she is in peace time and is meant to be the face of civility and respectability for the New Republic. When she now lives in an era where there is little fear of a bomb going off in her secret location off the grid, it's ok to wear earrings, again.
