I'm sure by now most people here already know about it, but I just recently saw this about Ewan's family within in the franchise.

I don't get it?

 

What's there not to get? Going clockwise, it's his wife, uncle, and daughter.

 

In real life?

 

Yeah. Ewan McGregor's wife is Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Hera). His uncle is Denis Lawson (Wedge). His daughter is Esther-Rose (Tethra Grig in Obi-Wan).

 

I had no idea. I could understand me not knowing about his daughter and wife, but can't believe I never heard about Wedge before. I feel shame.

 

No worries! Yeah his relationship to the Wedge actor has been known for years, but on further research I saw that he only married Winstead last year. Esther-Rose is his daughter from his previous wife.

 

Hera wins the mother of the year award for bringing her kid into what's basically a war zone for seemingly no reason at all.

"Mom, I've got a bad feeling about this. Maybe I should've stayed at home where it's like...A LOT safer!"

 

She didn't exactly get a comfortable, safe upbringing herself so I guess it makes sense that she isn't the best of Moms. With Ezra and Sabine it was more like teaching them to fend for themselves in an unfriendly galaxy. Probably the same with Jacen. It kind of reminds me of the Father/Son dynamic between Jango and Boba - although Hera is supposed to be the hero so that doesn't speak well about her.

 

The fact that she had a traumatic childhood in a war zone and her sons father was killed seems like it would make her more protective and against Jacen going into dangerous situations

 

Most people are not aware of her back story though. It was a weird thing to do. Maybe there will be some reasoning in future episodes. It could be that she had no one to watch him.

 

Or the most simple answer, which is that she felt he is safer with her than away from her.

If there is evil in the galaxy, surely Jacen Syndulla is a target for kidnap or murder by anyone who has it against Hera, or anyone who wants to gain something.

After all Star Wars is a heightened drama space opera and lots of events don't translate well to our world.

 

I wonder, considering the WBW has now been introduced in this setting, if there might be a possibility where Jacen gets to meet his father?

 

Star Wars sucks ass at kids. Hera especially. She was using Sabine and Ezra as child soldiers. So if you expect some great moral stance on children in combat zones don’t

The way I see it, the Ghost is Jacen’s home, and he doesn’t have any family aside from his mom. She isn’t going to leave him on some NR ship with whoever, if the Ghost is going somewhere then Jacen is coming along. This isn’t Star Trek where all big good guy warships have schools and lots of kids onboard, she can’t just leave him behind.
