CT Sometimes I think Star Wars should have just been a trilogy

Just like Back to the Future, The Godfather, The Matrix, etc.
Does anyone else think like this?

No cause I do enjoy the PT and the ST at least some of them.

but I do get the feeling. Star Wars fans would be a lot less divided lol.

Hmmm... This is a "hindsight being 20/20" scenario.

I know personally, the only film that has even come close to capturing the magic for me is Rogue One. The rest? I legitimately would not care if they never aired any of them ever again.

Knowing where things are now? Yes, I think the SW was better off being left alone.

Without the prequels, I'd like Star Wars... heck, I'd like it a lot.

    But I wouldn't love it.

Back to the Future wasn't worth a trilogy, better as a stand alone.

I like Back to the Future Part 2, but I think Part 3 was probably a lot more fun for filmmakers born in the 1950s and reared on a diet of TV westerns to make than for an audience born in the 1970s and 1980s with virtually no previous cultural connection to Westerns to watch.

Age is not the issue, otherwise you would not be able to enjoy WWII films, or films set in the middle ages.

After thinking on this...I agree. Parts 2 and 3 are serviceable - But the original is timeless!

With Return of the Jedi being a pretty big decline (OK, fun but still much lesser) and OTOH so much of it being about the Emperor (and his tempting Luke) and Vader eventually turning against him it makes sense to also do, show the background of Vader and the Emperor, how they rose and initially joined, why Obi-Wan and Anakin turned against each other, what Vader's more recent conflict by Return of the Jedi was and at least give more context into why Obi-Wan failed but Luke succeeded.

I have to say, this is a sentiment I've never understood. If one dislikes certain parts of a franchise, what benefit is it to wish them out of existence? I'm genuinely wondering, wouldn't it be preferable to instead wish that they turned out more to your liking? Or to just choose to ignore the things you don't like?

this to me is the same thing as "wishing them out of existence"

imagine say, Luke didn't end up a miserable hermit, but instead turned into a notorious child killing mass murderer with force ghost Obi-Wan cheering him on, I think it's safe to assume at least 10% of SW fans would wish it to be wiped out of existence.

Sometimes. But then I bring to mind Darth Maul's kinky lightsaber reveal. Pa Paaa, Pa Paaa, Pa Paaaa, Pa Pa Paaaaaaa. That alone was worth the admission fee.

    Take or leave the rest.

If the movies had been just the OT I think the reaction would be very much like Back to the Future, with the fanbase loving it as such a great, timeless achievement, there being split between was there a big decline or even if so were all still great, a lot of them praising Lucas for, like Zemeckis/Gale, not making the series more, sticking to that and also avoiding other filmmakers making more or making remake.

    I certainly don't.
I am mixed on the prequels, but the content they gave us in the Classic EU is well worth it. I also enjoy the content that's been spun-off with TCW and such.
If we only got the CT, there would be far fewer novels, graphic novels, and video games. There would probably be few, if any, TV shows.
