Looks like TROS's Beaumont Kin will be the in-universe author, which is a nice touch.

So ****ing pumped for this. In universe written work is so cool.

I do wonder what will be included and not included as unlike the viewer in universe they don’t have an omniscient viewpoint

Looking forward to this if only because maybe the book can settle the hierarchy relationship between Grand Admirals and Grand Moffs ;)

Finally maybe a discussion of the actual power of the Senate, the rank insignia explained, and an in depth sense of the uniforms. Too bad it’s not Legends.

I don't know why the prospect of it being only Canon is lamentable, since Canon reference guides utilize Legends references possibly more than any other source.

Given the summary of the book, I expect that only the Senate will be touched on. It's purporting to be an in-universe history -- it's not strictly speaking a reference book.

That said, it's possible that it'd touch on the grand admirals and grand moffs but likely as an example of 1) Palpatine tying the top ranks more closely too him and 2) Palpatine intentionally giving these top positions intentionally overlapping remits with ambiguous precedence/seniority as a way to set them against each other.

Also, in general -- asking for Imperial ranks to be explained is just asking to be disappointed as each and every single story will end up ignoring or confusing them. ;)

There's quite a few "Bad Batch" and "Andor" senators who either require further identification or perhaps a homeworld and sector to be known about. That would be extremely helpful to, say, me.

I’m tentatively looking forward to this. It could be very good, so very tentative.

I need these books or I will never know who had a furrowed brow due to concern or elaborate hairbraids handed down by a Bakuran shaman as a call back to some random eu work.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this book at least tangentially touches on a bit of the bad batch season 3. Assuming the
wider galaxy at some point learns about Tantiss which I think they will.

Author Chris Kempshall is reporting on X that Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire actually clocks in at 432 pages (!), not 304 as previously reported.

"I found the open word count to be both helpful and also a challenge…"

In the same thread he guesses that the finished book will share the same physical dimensions as Skywalker: A Family at War, as previously speculated, so definitely expect something along those lines rather than a visual guide.

A sample chapter of Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire is now up at Amazon UK. I suspect some folks here are going to be very happy.

It's good to see it in universe and very clearly biased in favour of the Republic.

Reminds me a little of The Essential Guide to Warfare in-universe sections. I think this could be quite fruitful as a source of new lore.

What was the first source that coined the Term "Galatic Civil War"?

I’d love to see an in-universe history book covering the ancient Sith Wars done ala Fire and Blood. Full of ambiguity and contradictions from differing sources. They’ll never do it in an thousand years, but I’d salivate over the prospect.

    Nice preview

I hadn't thought about it before, but I do like the idea that it is Palpatine's return and the recovery of information from Exogal that finally allows the galaxy to learn the truth behind the Clone Wars and Galactic Civil War

so if thats right it takes all up to Exegol to uncover the truth behind all of Palpatine's evil schemes. That he is a Sith lord and he manipulated the jedi and has plans to kill them off.

Earliest source I know of that used the term was Raymond Velasco's A Guide to the Star Wars Universe, First Edition, in 1984. I don't know if or where it might show up earlier than that. (The entry for "Galactic Civil War" in Velasco's book redirects the reader to the "Rebel Alliance" entry.)
