If this show succeeds it would give Disney some confidence that one can have a series without movie/TCW characters/Mano n Grogu nor Imperials (of some form) and still find greatness.

Maybe get a S2 or another High Republic era show someday. Possibly Disney would look for even further distant eras to explore in live action series. From Early Galactic Republic (Young Yoda?) and the centuries prior to the HR to even the Old Republic itself.

But if this show lacks quality......or rides like a Bantha, I foresee Disney keeping to "familiar" eras for the foreseeable future for Tv.

It will also hurt the marketing for the High Republic era. Many fans have not read any HR books, so this will be their first introduction to the era. Similar to how "KoToR" was the first introduction to the Old Republic for a bunch of fans. If this series gets screwed up, it would negatively influence the perception of the High Republic.

Back when it was annouced in 2020 it was the star wars TV show i thought was the most promising, if only because of its original concept as well as brand New Era. No spin-off, no legacy character or fan favorite or whatever...just a new story with new characters and a dark side -centered plot...so yes, out of all the SW series, this was the one i was the most looking forward to...can't believe it's starting tomorrow at last!

My hopes are high, i enjoyed the trailers though they were just ok/good, i think. I hope it's more Andor than BoBF/Kenobi in termes of writing quality! If so, we should be good. So far, it's all very promising. Now let'see it if it delivers, the time has Come!!

So far , my opinions on SW TV series:

    - The Mandalorian : nothing too original but nice SW stories and SW feel with now iconic characters! The first 2 seasons were great, the 3rd just ok but i enjoyed it.

-Book of Boba Fett: one of the worse SW stuff i've ever seen. Bad beyond bad.

-Kenobi : better than BoBF but still not very good. Script was mediocre at best and some épisodes looked surprinsingly cheap. The whole stuff is very forgetable.

-Andor: i wasn't looking forward to this at all and was very pleasantly surprised! Without a doubt it has the most well-written script of all SW shows. Was the SW feel a bit toned down? A bit, yes. But it's nice to see an ambitious SW project with originality and solid story.

Ahsoka : hit and miss. Some stuff were interesting and there were moments i really enjoyed. Some other things were not really working and kinda disappointing. I enjoyed it but it felt like two episodes stretched to 6. And Thrawn was a bit of a letdown...

I Hope the acolyte will end up in a high position! Visually, it's gonna be good, i'm sure, the trailer looks fine. Now if the script is good....bingo!!

New SW content is priceless. Even the worst generates some very enjoyable discussions. Or to be the nadir to compare everything else to, the dreaded "it's not as bad as ...".

I've seen June 4 on a ton of marketing, but the official SW pages this morning have June 5 on all their posts. Am I missing something?

They just showed a clip of Mother Aniseya with Osha and Mae on Good Morning America. It was short but interesting.

I thought the discrepancy was only due to time zones like it is dropping June 4th in the US but that is already June 5th here in Europe?
If it drops 7-9 PM in the US that tracks

Disney plus is showing that it premiers tonight? 9pm ET time. I'm obviously in the US. Does that track?

    No. Tomorrow (at that time).
It drops concurrently around the world.

On the West Coast of the US, that’s 6pm on June 4.

On the East Coast of the US, that’s 9pm on June 4.

In Central European Time, that’s 3am on June 5.

    And so on.
Time zones are still a thing. In a number of places around the world, the show drops on June 5. In the Americas, it drops the evening of June 4.

I don’t know what’s going on in your dimension, but the Disney+ site in mine says June 5 (I’m in Italy). So certainly not June 3.

Yeah, I know what time zones are. I'm in the US and follow the US based Star Wars accounts, so I would expect them to post the US release date, just as I'd expect a European page to post a European time/date etc. Up until literally this morning it had said the 4th and then suddenly said the 5th, on the same page, so that's why I was confused.

No worries. Someone at Disney+ made a mistake, it seems, and didn’t keep the US time for visitors from US urls. Unless you’re now using a VPN with an address outside the Americas, and previously weren’t.

Maybe Disney+ did not adjust their calendar for leap year, and the banner had been programmed to read "Today at 9pm ET" on June 4th, since it thought today is June 4th.
And then, Dave Filoni read your post about the banner saying "Today", and he PM'd Leslye to ask if she requested the show to start on the 3rd, to which she said "No, why do you ask, Dave?", and then Dave tells her "Well, I was just reading the "The Acolyte" Season 1 Discussion (Spoilers Allowed) Page 8 on the boards, and Flyer75 said their Disney+ was listing your show as starting today, and I though that was weird, since I thought it was the 4th. You might want to call Kathy to see if she can ask Bob to have his people change the banner. Maybe it has something to do with leap year."

Anyone who gives a take which pretends that "pre Disney fans" are somehow a coherent group of people with similar opinions is not to be taken seriously at all. It's just the usual divisive rubbish that tries to change the past.

It is certainly possible for this show to piss off some people. That's true for any show though. And if it does, it will have absolutely nothing to do with whether the fans were fans before the Disney era or only became one recently.

I would imagine after ten years most of the people who haven't been able to come to terms with the differences between pre Disney and post Disney Star Wars probably aren't paying much attention to Star Wars these days anyways.

Seems like the beef is with the idea that the Jedi are presented as actually evil all along while the Sith are the true good side.

And that could just be someone’s take. Accurate or not.

But really the Jedi failed for a reason. Even in the PT they were arrogant and blind. And even a touch elitist. They are far from perfect.

And so I doubt they are presented as evil but more nuanced. And that alone could be unappealing to some “pre-Disney” fans.

Even if that were the case this show appears to be largely focused on the dark side users and the people that align with them so of course it would paint the Jedi in a more negative light.

Personally, I am tired of the idea of the Jedi being "less than perfect" being presented as something new, or novel, or daring, or bold.

The Prequels were literally about the fall of the Republic and the Jedi. The Jedi lose, big time. In a significant portion of the fan base, Qui-Gonn is venerated as being a "real Jedi" (versus, I suppose, Jedi like Obi-Wan, Yoda, etc).

Ahsoka, pushed as one of the "new" SW stars, walked away from the Jedi order.

In the Sequels, Luke is a bitter angry tired failure who abandons his friends, the New Republic, and his sister, and the Jedi way. He does come around, granted. Kinda. And Rey and Yoda "stick up for the Jedi". But the Jedi are hardly flawless paragons here.

To say nothing of the many books and comic books and other materials that have criticized the Jedi. And the vocal fan base elements who do likewise and go on about "Gray Jedi".

The idea that the Jedi need to be "taken down a peg" because they somehow have been portrayed as just too wonderful and perfect? Sorry, can't buy it.

We'll see how it plays out.
