I honestly can't remember why we started with 4 now,

and then I felt like watching 6 cuz I have a soft spot for it, and now our order is all over the place

Imagine being a newb...thinking "I'll just check what this thread is all about then.." and seeing this on top of the page

 

I think we group watched one and two a while back, and they had recently watched 3. Dandelo wanted to watch Freddy's Dead, which is 6, and then we went back to 5. Or something. Now I'm confused. I had also recently bought a 4 pack of 4,5,6 and New, so that factored in. I also have Freddy vs. Jason I like that one.

 

You got like a summer sale going on?

This is a good idea. I'm fine with starting over and doing this order. Whatever everyone wants to do. Rewatching movies is really fun. We could always start with the Nancy trilogy since those three seem to be popular. (they are my top 3) Then rewatch 4 since a couple people missed that one. Then go 5, 2, 6. FvJ.

Went out this afternoon to the city of Zadar. Originally the Roman colony of Iader, it was fortified as an outpost of the Venetian Republic in the 16th century as a bastion against the Ottoman Empire.

Here’s an example of the town’s fearsome walls, which surround the old town that sits on a peninsula:

What’s that lurking in the archway?


Yes, for some reason there was a dinosaur museum (as well as the horrifying prospect of a ‘Big exhibition of live spiders and scorpions’):


The central Church of St Donatus sits beside the remains of the old Roman forum:


You can actually see repurposed Roman column pieces and stones around the base of church, having been put to use in the foundations:


This column was used as a ‘Pillar of Shame’ in the Middle Ages, with prisoners tied to the post to be mocked by crowds:


At the end of the peninsula was a view of surrounding island chains, including one with a castle on a peak:



On the sea front was also a unique feature: Zadar’s Sea Organ. Waves from the sea flow through pipes which create an eerie melodic sound. I found a video which captures the effect, although when we visited the notes sounded a bit deeper and lengthier:


Next we visited the Archaeological museum of Zadar, which covered from pre-history to early medieval history of the surrounding region. Interesting items included this 4000 year old four-legged offering bowl:


A serrated sickle blade:


A Roman carving of the she-wolf nurturing Romulus and Remus:


A cute statue of a bull:


A massive bust of Hercules after defeating the Nemean Lion:


Statues recovered from nearby Nin showing emperors Augustus and Tiberius:

On leaving the museum we were greeted by the bizarre sight of this polar bear posing for photos:


Wandering the streets of Zadar in saw this quaint bell tower:

Lastly, one of the entrances to Zadar was this impressive archway, marked with the Venetian lion of St Mark, beside a small harbour:

 

I was expecting real living dinosaurs
