Mini Series The Acolyte 1.04 - Discussion Thread (Spoilers Allowed)

I thought this episode felt expensive to me, personally. Felt more cinematic. Looked great in 4K also.

 

I thought it looked absolutely gorgeous. Khofar is one of my favorite new planets. I want to go and retire there.

 

Part of me wonders if the witch mother shared her knowledge of how to create life into each of their minds during the ceremony and Mae only has one half of the key and that the Sith’s entire interest in this family of witches is literally to learn this secret of midichlorian manipulation and ensure that they are the only force users alive who know it.

I really want this show to be a significant lore contributor in the end. I think it could elevate rhe entire show if it goes a bit more Filoni by the end.

 

Does anyone else have an issue with the fact that they retconned Ki Adi Mundi’s age/Cerean lifespan and his line from Ep 1 about the Sith?

 

His age? Nope. Never knew it nor even cared
The Sith? Nope. He either doesn’t ever know…or knows but was trying to keep it a secret.

 

I seen a lot of people complaining he shouldn’t even be around 100 years earlier. Makes you wonder what guides a lot of these decisions. Like did they do research? Did they just decide hey we can use him so why not? Did Filoni say it made sense? Did they want to be Plo Koon and filoni said NO HE IS MINE! YOU CAN HAVE MUNDI!

 

So the Master & Qimir seem to be similar height. They also seem to be similar in body frame. Is that what most people are thinking? I wasn’t so sold it was him, but after this episode I’m leaning towards it. I guess it could also just be a new character we don’t know about yet

 

Plo Koon is in the episode too.

 

Its never confirmed in disney canon - only ever legends, so technically they havent retconned anything as far as I am aware - and really ti doesnt matter that much as he isnt a main part of the story

 

The line about the Sith is not ruined just yet, but appears to be trending that direction

But this is a forum that was fine with Anakin's line from RotS, "my powers have doubled since we last meant Count" being made a mockery of in TCW by Filoni and his hat......so let's just say I wouldn't expect folks to be critical of this either.

Also i like to think Ki Adi Mundi now is around 300-400 years old and 500 by his death in ROTS.

 

Okay maybe I'd need to hire an exterminator first.

 

My money is on Mother Aniseya or Mother Koril, not necessarily because of height/body shape compared to the Sith (as they can always disguise that) but because Qimir seems too obvious, they refer to the Sith as 'he' a lot (which seems like misdirection) and because the Sith spent a few moments (almost too long) looking at Osha, which makes me think they know her.

 

I know one critic who will bash his head against the wall if its either Qimir or Koril

Mae doesn't suddenly turn. I bet she's been thinking that killing the Jedi without a weapon is a set up not a test. Knowing Osha is alive, turning herself in may be the only way to be together. Then there is the fact, how can she trust this Master if he has no trust in her. ie, not revealing his identity. Mae is simply a tool being used by this Master. It feels very Sith and I think Mae would feel very used. If only we ask all the other Sith apprentices and get their opinion. Oh, we can't, they tend to end up dead.

 

It's all personal taste, but this cinematography kills me. Flat, zero contrast, weak shadows, foreground and background blended together like oatmeal (the ferns might as well be part of the structure), fuzzy filter, no sense of composition, no sense of scale. Which is odd because a ton of the landscape cinematography, in the wide shots and on what seems to be on-location, looked really great. Do they have a problem with set lighting or something?

 

If someone is murdered with an axe the police don't immediately jump to believing the perpetrators were Vikings, lol

 

Filming a hunt/fight in a forest at dusk? Maybe....but still. For the price tag these soundstages could have looked more ... immersive. And still felt like SW. They could have shot the entire planet on location - finding waterfalls, little cliffs, overgrown trees, etc, (just as GOTs has done) and then for this one spot its an elaborate multi-level sound stage. The Home Depot ferns could definitely been better.

 

ok , just watched it (with some distractions) , anyway I thought it was good, but I'm baffled at the 180 Mae did, did I miss something?

Liked the new baddie helmet , much better than that crappy design Kylo Ren went with.
