So... lets try this another way around... harmless stuff we already know exists and a spoiler about them? As this book mentions probably everyone and their mother, I guess its not a spoiler to namedrop these, right?

    Anaxes War College
is mentioned and it felt like quoting the EgtW

    Mas Amedda
gives interviews as a prisoner of the NR

    General Veers
was evacuated to a medical facility on Carida after the Battle of Hoth.

    Imperial Dignitaries with fancy hats
    are in this book!

    Perrin Fertha
has interesting files and connections with someone high in the Imperial Court we know from the PT.

He's more thorough than Voren... less jumping to conclusions that need retcons later :p

    More Sith Excavation fun:

Dromund Kaas is in the book mentioned in regards to Palpatines travels collecting artifacts he brought to Exegol!

Darth Plagueis is also talked about and Beaumont is trying to piece together a clear hierarchy of the Sith and chronology. Lucky for him Palps recorded some before his latest death... but Sith Eternal defaced it so he has to puzzle still.

Overall the book is great in that it evokes and tells that in the first time for centuries if not a millennium, a lot is reaching the light of day now that had been hidden, kept secret, lied about or otherwise falsified. And the study and revealing of such will be a part to prevent the future repeating the past, as well as serves as partial explanation why the NR and previous attempts failed lacking the intel and access they have now to lore, places and the true history and manipulations of it and everyone the Sith had done!

If Veers survived, just maybe, could Hobbie return to canon?

    I feel like
confirmation that the New Republic survived as a state and Amedda was locked up will make a lot of people pretty happy, given that the ineffectual portrayal of the NR is THE biggest complaint I've heard about the rebooted canon. And it's a pretty big reveal either way, giving up some perspective on what post-TROS works might be about.

Next round of spooilers... still most of the book to finish yet, but skimming back and forth... plenty of MEAT for your appetites this time around! Brace yourselfs, some of these spoilers are a lot to take in!

    The "old NR"
The NR may or may not have survived. Something did, if called the NR or else or NR in name only we'll have to see elsewhere. The Resistance leadership is trying to organize something (Generals Poe Dameron and General Finn, Commander Rose Tico,..) but how much it resembles what was before remains to be seen. That process is still ongoing months to a year after TROS and the "old NR" (lol) seems to have been definitely destroyed during the ST, as all files it once had restricted are now availeable publicly to study for scholars much easier than back under its rule as per Beaumont. So any NR post TROS, if it gets that name, may be different or a continuation in name only. Files and censorship-wise the NR archives are wide open and studied by folks to not repeat its and the Empires mistakes.

    Amedda
No years given but sounds like that traitorous snitch sold his soul to the NR and talked about everything secretly entrusted to him... especialyl regarding Palpatine/Sidious.

Seems Beaumont thinks Palpatine took Sim Aloo and Sate Pestage to Endor and that both died there with him. (EU fans know Pestage did not... but canon may just have killed Pestage unless OneCanon wins the day!).. anyway, Mas Amedda, which hieararchy falling to him, had thoughts about ascending the throne of Emperor himself, but did not act upon them due to nobody listening to him anymore anyway in the ensuing chaos and fracturing of the Empire.

Fun is Mas Amedda stayed with the NR loooong and partially rehabilitated himself thx to his intel to the point of advising the NR on some matters how to deal with ex-Imperials.. which would lead to the re-hab program and institute we see in Mando tv show that reintegrates former Imperials into NR service and civilian lifes. Amedda was dangerous though as per Beaumont and should not have been trusted as that weakened the NR and furthered probably the growing Centrist faction... lol so our blue boy was quite active and wreaking havoc and part of the reason the NR went ineffective and failing ultimately? I like that explanation! Him "Wyyrloking" around as OneCanon fans might call it lol.

Calendar, Censors and the art of history...
You'll enjoy a fun rant about various dating systems in use and which Beaumont prefers and may even have invented himself hehe... and why he did. Also I can't help but wonder if some snippets are an invisible punch against Voren Naal's work. As Beaumont's introduction prepares for all eventualities, including his work being contradicted or overwritten despite him trying to be more thorough than other historians that jumped to conclusions that turned out wrong based on limited or censored data that in hindsight was quite different ultimately.

    SW Galaxies Reference
Palpatine's Naboo retreat gets a mention.. was it used in canon already? I vaguely recall Marvel maybe doing that already.

    Beaumont thanks a colleague
The inuniverse Skywalker "Family at War" biography written by Kristin Baver gets mentioned inuniverse as being upcoming and released inuniverse after this book by Beaumont... and she is immortalized as inuniverse author Kitrin Braves! Other colleagues and their upcoming work are also mentioned, too, which I guess is really upconing as another guidebook this fall or the next!

    A new Grand Moff
Grand Moff Plorest of the Corusca Sector! Active at the time of the Battle of Endor and after.

He waited if Mas Amedda would become Emperor but upon nothing happening declared himself Emperor.. his reign lasted for three days and he was murdered by one of his lovers after all his orders had been ignored by Imperials anyway.

So yub that book got new lore, not just summarizing of the known stuff ;) FUN TIMES

Also a new Grand General of that time and his exploits..

    Yup..
When was Yupe Tashu ever a NR prisoner??? Didn't he die on Jakku? Before that? If not he may have survived after all, as we have Yupe Tashu NR prisoner files mentioned!!! Is he pulling a Pestage?

@Sinrebirth there is something you definitely WANT to know under these tags... it'll make you happy I guess. Won't say which though!

PS: Another one for the ages...

The NR has costuming clubs it seems and one of them is all about collecting and wearing old Imperial regalia... Casterfo was such a fan...

aka inuniverse 501st lol... do they do charity, too?

    Quote:
"The Society for Imperial Re-Enactment, the galaxy's premier organization for those who appreciate the aesthetic of the Imperial Military" is CANON!

Oh and you'll love the outro of the book.. I'll leave it to discover for yourself but will hint at at least this (you really should not read this... seriously!):

-Thrawn's post ROTJ return is mentioned
-The Imperial Shadow Council and the Mandoverse period are also adressed and analysed
    -UR Horrors are mentioned
-Now we know the fate of the Exegol vat Snokes!
    -and much more!

The end feels much like the folks post-TROS are like us fans... reanalysing and interpreting the Saga, gathering up clues in a huge variety of sources to get a complete picture. And as much as the post-ROTJ era and ST were Empire fanboys vs. Rebel cosplayers with wannabe Jedi and wannabe Sith thrown in between.. so this new era feels like a paralell to real life history repeating itself and us fans of a franchise both. It gives a lot of closure and leaves a lot for a new era to begin, too.

    I love this book.

Any additional political details on the First Order, Empire, etc. that we didn't know of prior? Does it address the Final Order?

    Yes! Definitely!

This book balances well to summarize what we know, weave in new lore and new povs and it as well leaves room for future stories and does not fill in all the gaps.
But boy, they did fill in some big gaps I was surprised they dared to touch upon!

If that means they are vying for a different Era to expand in the future giving this one much closure remains to be seen. This book could be a great lead in to start off the post TROS era indeed with how it closes stuff yet also leaves room for something new and offers great insight into how this new era views what and who came before.

Okay, I just consumed this over almost two hours and LOVE it.

    Highlights.

The 7th Fleet getting a life of its own post-Lothal is sublime, eventually consolidated under Sloane. The Dark Omen getting more love is always appreciated. The Battle of Derra IV coming back with a twist is brilliant.

Some more named Star Destroyers at Endor; very nice. The joint chiefs concept expanded upon, neatly. Some more Grand Generals and Grand Moffs.

The Battle of Kuat was expanded! Much happiness. The exact losses at Galitan too.

The entire Thrawn-return paragraph being short because the NR classified the entire incident for years is perfect continuity. The chap campaigning for it to be declassified being on Hosnian Prime at the point it is destroyed is wince-worthy.

Also I did never in a thousand years expect
    Ederlathh
to turn up. What a surprise!

It’s really quite sublime, I cannot emphasise how good it is. The best parts being the post-Endor ones. Absolute treat of a book.

    EDIT.

Also two First Order battlegroups trying and failing to capture Coruscant is intriguing.

    Edit:
    !!!!

is this the first mention of Kinman Doriana in canon?

Actually it explains where the GA was; defending Coruscant, albeit by the time of TROS an uprising was needed to unseat the FO. DotF is later after all.

Names of the new Endor ISDs, if you can?
Also, is the First Order campaign, both in recruiting worlds - and it's final blitzkrieg from 34 ABY - detailed much?

It’s a fascinating read and I’ll probably have to reread it to properly absorb some of the smaller details. There aren’t huge canon reveals, as such, (this isn’t the book for that) but it’s a wonderful piece of worldbuilding that provides a context for a lot of what we’ve already seen. I find that much of the comics stuff, which I disliked initially is a lot more palatable when presented via cold historical documents. I can only ask that we get more of this, possibly covering other major factions/histories down the line.

    Few observations I had:

-Tiny bit of Plagueis lore, and some guesstimates about Palpatine’s early years with his parents/their deaths.

-Some Sate Pestage love, which is always nice to see.

-a fun shoutout(?) to Legends Palpatine potentially having multiple heirs and mistresses who came forward after his death.

-Kinman Doriana is canon! And not only that, he seems to be very mysterious and very connected to Palpatine in a way few others in the Empire are.

-Grand Admiral Savit was executed after the events of Thrawn: Treason, though the public was told he retired from service because of health reasons.

    - “The Emperor could build another, bigger Death Star, but he could not replace Tarkin.” Splendid stuff.

-There’s a flub where Mr Beaumont Kin mistakes the Grand Inquisitor for an Umbaran.

-I laughed/scoffed at the “We’ve heard enough about Thrawn so we’ll try to talk around him for most of this discussion on the Empire” part, followed by a footnote description of his return.

-Loved the description of the Imperial frustration in the immediate lead up to Endor.

-Gets a bit too “and this is what happened in the Mandalorian season 2 and 3” at parts when describing the New Republic.

-The New(er) Republic got their hands on Snoke corpses! I hope that’s fodder for a future story.

Does this book have any info about the Sith Eternal’s origins? It’s still ambiguous whether they were an offshoot of the Empire or a pre-existing cult that had been on Exegol for centuries or longer.

    Derra IV.

The Vigilance and the remnants of the 7th Fleet, including the Dark Omen and Interdictor cruiser Retention. The 7th had identified the likely supply routes themselves The victory saw Sloane promoted from Vice Admiral to Admiral. Renegade Squadron is destroyed there too.

    Endor.

Piett, Versio, Sloane and Montferrat with the Executor, Eviscerator, Vigilance and Devastator is old news, but Vice Admiral Ferno and the Dark Omen, Commodore Scaanos and the Steadfast, as well as the presence of the Interrogator at Endor I believe is new canon.

Not much clarity there, I’m afraid. The segment of the book dealing with the ST in general is quite a bit shorter than the rest and has less revelations.
