Mini Series The Acolyte 1.06 - Discussion Thread (Spoilers Allowed)

Not to nitpick...but I really didn't like the animation of the lightwhip. Seemed like it was done with a "whatever...that's good enough" attitude.

 

I'd also argue that attraction, or even some element of sexual seduction doesn't automatically mean romance or love.

The director might be aiming for that, but those are different things.

As I said before, I see it as Qimir showing is supposed vulnerabilities, while also showing her that he doesn't consider her a treat in the least. That he has no clothes. No weapon. No mask. He's revealing it all to her, literally, to show Osha how much power there is that in kind of freedom. A freedom that she too can have if she chooses to join him.

Leaping to ... OMGAHD they're in love, eeeek dark side romance - boyfriend and girlfriend forever ... is something else.

 

Yeah, choosing the dark side can't just be "I get a BF" out of it. Previous seductions plays - Anakin and Luke, probably even Maul and Dooku although we never saw it - were about revenge, power, and authority in the galaxy. That can be the same thing for female characters as well.

Osha clearly has a revenge motivation building. She could also be very powerful; Those are fine primary motivators for her to join the Sith.

 

I don’t see anyone but shippers leaping to “they’re in love!” People here are just acknowledging that in addition to the vulnerability and mock empathy and humility play by Qimir, there’s also some sexual tension present in his seduction - and Headland has affirmed this obvious take. I never even considered love or romance, and don’t know why anyone would.

So unless you’re wrestling with shippers, it’s a bit of a straw man.

Agreed. It was also a bad overhead shot. But I’m biased against overhead shots from the nobody perspective.

Light whip vs. light whip would bring something new to live action SW.

I think Headland is a fan of Lumyia, too, or maybe I'm getting her mixed up with Darth Traya.

Speaking of Darth Traya. Have jedi and Sith fight with their minds. They Control the lightsaber with the force.

 

see — that’s something I would’ve been up for I am Acolyte type series. Lumiya as a pupil of Vader. But too much Luke and Leia to be her story. Maybe.

I liked the light whip. Looking forward to seeing more.

 

I would definitely like to see another season of SW from Headland, but as most of us want, the episodes should be longer.

She seems to love many things from Legends that I do.

 

I was anticipating the light-whip, but it ultimately looked dumb. So I don’t need to see two people whipping each other with them.

 

She said she was also interested in the Knights of the Old Republic too, I believe.

 

I bet she love to do an adaptation of Darth Traya.

 

She seems really really intro Traya, so I keep waiting to see her translate the character into the Acolyte.

Maybe Osha will be inspired by her?
