Kamala approves of The Acolyte, so season 2 is definitely happening. [face_mischief]

Disney is not going to continue spending hundreds of millions of dollars to make shows that no one watches.

Yeah. All shows have their fans.

That said, I also think it's unlikely Disney want to spend so much money on another season if this show doesn't attract enough people.

Currently, I see more likely they continue the story in another media.

You're speaking in absolutes that are clearly untrue. I watched it, twice. I also feel strongly many others watched it as well based on discussions on this board and elsewhere.

Who knows if it will get a second season (we probably won't know until Celebration happens) but I do think you are failing to take into account how short the Acolyte episodes were. I also doubt most people looking at the Nielsen charts even know how Nielsen accumulates their data. They just see a chart without Acolyte in it and so they make a big deal about it.

You seem to have a habit of running with any news that fits into a specific narrative.

Percy Jackson show has episodes with similar time per episode, but it was never dropped from Nielsen Top 10 Originals during the weeks of broadcast.

I mention it because it shows the numbers in Nielsen could be bigger with that amount of time per episode.

Great but that is pretty much comparing apples to oranges. Percy Jackson was a popular book series and a reboot of a set of earlier films. Not a completely brand new story that was about the sixth or seventh series released within that specific universe.

Acolyte was by far the shortest Star Wars series released thus far in terms of on air minutes and really no one that is trying to say how much of a failure it was attempts to even bring that up.

Of course it was an over the top comment. I myself have watched the show twice. As I have said before I don’t believe Disney is going to move forward with a show that has such low viewership numbers and that cost nearly $200m to make. Maybe I’m wrong but I just don’t see it.

I’d really like a 2nd season, but the general negative feedback and the lack of audience reach probably makes that unlikely… unless Headland has a killer premise for a second season that she can sell to the execs. Saying that, I wouldn’t want a 2nd season exploring Plagueis’ role much… as I think that should be left to a film or an an adaptation that’s more based on the novel of the same name.

This is simply not true. A completely new era needs time, the story needs to be built. The first season of series is usually just an introduction, and Acolyte was no different.

Otherwise, it would be a shame for them to start this series if they give it up already. There is no success without risk.

Many fans have no idea that studios who produce genre content actually do some long-term planning on these things. And so they understand that the very first thing in a new project doesn’t have to be the most-watched show in the universe in order to serve as a building block. Unless it’s an absolute, unmitigated financial and critical disaster. Which the Acolyte isn’t.

I know this: If there is no Acolyte S2, life will go on. I, and many others who enjoyed it, will be disappointed, but we will not leap off a cliff or attack social media daily.

On other other hand, Acolyte haters will be destroyed if there is a S2. Their doomsday predictions and conspiracy theories will go up in flames. They will have to abandon their theories and narratives for a time.

Then after their depression, if they survive being wrong yet again, they will nourish themselves on anger and hate again and watch and comment on every single episode of Season 2, predicting yet again the end of LFL and the end of Disney.

I agree, generally speaking... I wasn't struck on the High Republic novels (as I much prefer the idea of KOTOR), but I did really enjoy seeing that new era on screen, and the potential for new lore and world building to be created around it. It's just tangibly different to seeing various flavours of stormtrooper etc. It would be a shame not to see that explored further IMO. However, there is a scenario where Headland doesn't return, but the era is explored in a looser sequel? I think the more pressing decision is whether Iger is going to bank roll any future live action TV show that isn't currently in some form of production. It may not be because of The Acolyte's performance, but the wider strategy for Disney+.
