A sheep, with this dragon being the series version of Sheepstealer, and Rhaena filling Nettles's role from the book?

Rhaena’s story is fragmented, and the series was finished during the writers’ strike.

I wonder if they decided to make a change to her story, and that’s why so much was cut, and it was edited in that way?

If her story was originally bigger, it could also explain how some other storylines got a lot more screentime than perhaps would have been otherwise. I’m thinking of all the Rhaenyra/council scenes, Corlys/Alan scenes, Daemon/Harrenhal scenes. Don’t get me wrong, I like what we got, often shows gloss too much over storylines and don’t go deep enough, but I feel something happened to the story of Rhaena and the Vale.

Yeah. I read that as Rhaenyra, utterly trapped in tradition, and Alicent, free. Great shot. Great ending.

Power is a cage, a burden.

But I think Alicent will find that it’s not that easy to quit the game of thrones.

Especially if Helaena turns out to pregnant, which could mean another possible male heir to dispute the crown in the future.

I could be good with 4 seasons I suppose. Based on the ending of 2 would have assumed 3 could wrap up all the fighting and determine whose noble ass would sit the iron throne but idk what all the book actually covers.

Just keep giving the A+ effort quality wise and I’m a happy Cajun.

    Spoilers within the following-

In principle I liked most of this episode other than Allicent and Rhaenyra meeting up once again (was okay enough with first meeting as the response felt appropriate at least), but some of it didnt work for me.

Kinda odd that Allicent doesn't mention the death of her grandson in the son for a son thing. And we all understand that she convinced Aegon to take the throne because she thought that’s what Viserys wanted. Then she realized from her first conversation with Rhaenyra this season that Viserys was actually referring to Aegon the Conquerer right before he died and not Aegon her son and thus, she is clearly grappling with the fact that she ruined her son’s life and got him crippled because she misunderstood her dying husband. Now she is telling Rhaenyra she can in fact kill Aegon in order so that she can essentially go live peacefully in the forest (Haelena too of course)......just feels like a bit of a cop out dramatically, and thus ultimately it's very hard for me to empathize with her in this regard given all we have seen transpire. Which may very well be the point.....but I kinda just wish this conversation never happened on screen. But just me of course. Well acted scene nonetheless.

I really just wish this was the penultimate episode and we got a finale that felt like a finale. All of this shoulda happened over the last couple episodes, coulda added 20 mins to both of those and we get a tight 50 min finale ep. Rhaena bonding with her dragon, at least a fifteen minute battle at the end where something more climactic for this season happens. It just felt like a filler finale for s3.

I do appreciate the Daemon arc leading to him fully bending the knee to Rhaenyra though!

I saw another important layer in her decision to allow Aegon to be killed. As a mercy. To put him out of his misery. And in doing so, also lift the realm from the misery it’s in.

Although I appreciate the result of the Daemon arc, also disappointing that the entire season he is coming to terms with how he has hurt his family and how he should not covet the throne, perhaps even realizing he doesn't want it.....and what ends up cementing his loyalty to Rhaenyra in the end is a vision of the future. He sells this allegiance on what he breaks down is the greater good/need, but it kinda feels a bit faux considering his only growth as a character this season stems from a vision of what is inevitable.

I don’t think it was just the vision, or visions, though. It was also his experience with the Riverlords, and Oscar Tully in particular, who truly humbled him. And showed him that he’s not a natural ruler. And would be better off as a loyal sword. And then of course all his vision chats with Viserys.,The vision of Rhaenyra cemented that, of course. But it’s not the only thing that led to his decision. Multiple lines of causality.

In the end, I really liked the Harrenhall material. And everything this season, really. It’s a very good show.

Not really important but I just realized that was the 3rd Blood Raven we have now seen shown.

    You weren't asking that clearly.

And as far as we know... no.

But it could happen, and throw a wrench into things.

Right now, Rhaenyra is probably fine with Helaena and Jahaera continuing as part of the royal family, since the whole supposed justification for Team Green is that women can't inherit the Iron Throne.

If Aemond is killed, and with Aegon a eunuch, and both are given up already by Alicent to be killed, then Team Green has no legitimate male heirs, their claim is completely gone.

If Helaena is pregnant... Rhaenyra may worry it's a boy. And if it's a boy, she may worry (rightfully) that despite Alicent and Helaena's intentions, the boy (or his future son, or son of his son) would have a claim to the throne, since any boy would still be a continuation of the male line.

There's no hint that she's pregnant, but I heard that she originally had a second younger son, in the Blood & Cheese incident she was actually picking between her sons which to kill. I haven't read Fire & Blood, but that information was everywhere. So there's still a possibility that a different storyline revolving around her having another child might happen. It would only matter if there's eventually another time jump to at least some months later, to at least realize if she could be pregnant, but I could see them creating this storyline for some addred drama. It always tends to go down the most complicated, troublesome, and dramatic route.

I wonder if that's the new actor of Bloodraven himself, in next year's Dunk & Egg show.

I decided to watch only every other episode this season and it worked out really well. I guess technically I watched 4.5 episodes as I started last week’s and never got back to it.

the big picture of this show is not bad, but a lot of the details are tedious, so cutting out half of them is a good workaround.

Those tedious parts are where all the character development and good writing are! :p

Wait who did Blood Raven replace cause he actually shouldn’t even be there yet but it seems like it was him showing Daemon what was to come and not just a glimpse of a future tree person to come.

hmm I’ll have to rewatch it again. Maybe I’m wrong as it’s been years since I read Hedge Knight graphic novel but I could swear I remember BR was still south of the wall.
