The fact that I don’t care all at all cements the fact The Acolyte wasn’t for me

I am speculating a bit based on research that was done a very long time time ago. I no longer have the information at my fingertips we talked a lot about this on the Sequel trilogy boards after TLJ came out and the sales started to tank not long after. The threads with all of those articles and data have since been deleted unfortunately. The lead in novels Princess of Alderran which featured Holdo as well as Claudia Grey's fantastic novel Bloodline not really tying into the films in any way and the reception of the film seemed to have a lot to do with the number falling off. You aren't just talking about books though it's comics, merch and a whole mountain of things that fell off during the run of the ST It's possible that the numbers may go back up once Star Wars is back in theaters but that boost didn't last and if I am not mistaken a lot of the new EU books did not perform as well as the Legends books. Feel free to go look up the information if you so chose don't feel like redoing research I did years ago. We are definitely off topic for this specific thread and should either continue this elsewhere or end this conversation as I doubt we will agree.

Disney/LF really needs to sort their TV stuff out. There’s clearly problems that need to be addressed.

Young Jedi adventures is in the dollar stores already and Walmart has everything at like 80% off. It could happen sooner than you think!

That was the weirdest thing to see when Toys 'r' Us was going under was seeing all the Star Wars toys still on the shelves while everything else was picked out.

The sales for the books didn't really start dropping off much until a few years after the ST ended. Light of the Jedi was a #1 NYTimes Bestseller and novels were regularly making Bestsellers lists.

Not sure where you got your data from but it sounds like a location that wanted to claim TLJ ruined the franchise.

I am beyond pi$$ed... it wasnt perfect for sure but it was a good start and had a lot of promising stuff to develop and I enojyed it and this cancellation feels like bowing to the review bombing of the incels and not a real reaction to the quality of the show...
    I have spoken
    As I said I am pi$$ed
It is my birthday ...yesterday I had the $hittiest meeting ever with HR and my boss, then went home and had a discussion about that with my husband and got angry and went to bed and I woke up this morning two hours earlier than I should have to my poor husband throwing up his soul in the bathroom
(remember people: if you find one week old food in the freezer ask your wife or a responsible adult in the household if it is safe to eat before doing so because, guess what?
IT PROBABLY IS NOT! DUH! ESPECIALLY IF IT HAS MEAT IN IT! JEEEZ LOUISE! [face_shame_on_you][face_frustrated]
    )
and then I found out the Acolyte had been canceled so this birthday looks nice!
I had breakfast with a slice of saint honoré cake and a glass of champagne though while hubbie sang faintly from the couch "haaaaaaappyyyy birthdayyyyyyygggghhhhh"...
    ...so...:D:p

Excellent news. Like I said when the finale aired, everyone involved in making and approving this atrocity needs to go. That includes Dave Filoni, who was selling his face for the entire promotion run leading up to this disaster. Lucasfilm leadership is so far up into their own delusions at this point that the company needs a serious shakeup.

I seriously doubt Filoni has any meaningful creative or business accountability for The Acolyte... that accountability sits with Headland and Kennedy. And whilst a 'shakeup' is probably overdue, it would be unwise to dislodge anyone creatively connected to The Mandalorian, Andor and Ahsoka... which, outside of animation and R1, are the best/most popular things SW related since Disney bought Star Wars.

Yeah I was meh on the show. Atleast now Plagueis won't be tied to this show in live action if he ever appears again. They should just adapt the book into a movie or a show if they want to do something with DP.

They have 70 years of Darth Plagueis before Palpatine. You dont to just jump into the Palpatine era right Away.

The issues with print sales happened during the ST and got even worse after the ST. There were a fair bit of complaints regarding some of the lead in stuff for Rogue One and The Last Jedi. Comic sales fell off a cliff after TLJ it was pretty crazy. Timothy Zahn's Thrawn novels and some other projects did fairly well while the lead in TROS stuff did absolutely abysmal. There were specific things that still did well but the overall sales compared that what they had been after Disney had promised a fully connected universe where everything matter started to fall apart rather quickly. It doesn't surprise me that Light of the Jedi was a #1 bestseller people were excited for a new Star Wars Era in print but from articles I have seen a lot of people have not stuck with it. I have heard the High Republic has done okay the numbers for print media and merch are still nowhere near the level there were at during the EU or TFA currently. Like I said you can look up the numbers and sales figures yourself if you want to do the comparison we did all of this stuff years ago not going to go find it.

The date was not from sites that want to claim TLJ ruined the fanbase this was all stuff obtained at the time of release discussing Lego sets not moving hurting the companies profits, merch sitting on shelves, Hasbro buying Power Rangers as they needed an action figure brand due to Star Wars under performing. It was all reputable journalistic sources from back in 2017-2018 not the grifter sites that keep pushing that narrative. For the comics is was from Marvel's own industry sales figures. In any case I am going to stop derailing this thread as this is more of a print media discussion and one that I have discussed to death on these boards and sourced the heck out of in the past and don't feel like chasing down 7 year old articles. Agree or disagree it's up to you but if you want the information you can find it if you so chose.

Not happy. It wasn't perfect but I enjoyed it. Feel like the empire has won and the rebels have lost and the books burn on the fires of knee jerk, Trumpism. Long live the witches I say!!!!

Sorry but I think our conversations is over because I'm not convinced at all that you know what you are talking about. I regularly paid attention to comic sales as well and they did not fall off a cliff. The main series were all still top 20 sellers and everything Star Wars related easily surpassed what is considered the cut off line for comics (even the Aphra comic which was a completely made up character created by Marvel got several ongoing series and will be getting a post RotJ series as well most likely).

Wherever you were getting your information from it doesn't appear at all to have been good information. Have a good day.

If you want to call Forbes, the Wall Street Journal and other sources not good information and the comic hub system that was an industry standard of reporting until 2022 when it was shutdown is not good data then okay. You don't want to believe me and don't care to do the research at all that's fine. I don't believe you know what your talking about either and are focusing on current numbers and not trends and data related to the brand and available since the acquisition and relaunch in 2015. It is literally in their annual reports. You can just look at the Disney earnings reports where they talk about it. In any case this conversation is most definitely over.

EDIT: No, I'm not referring to the end of the conversation above.

I'd just learned about the cancellation as a headline on Google news yesterday. Tbh, I'm indifferent about it. I kind of felt the same way about the Willow series (though I'd imagine Disney would at least treat The Acolyte with more respect - keeping the single season available for whomever cares to watch it).

The series never really grew on me at all. I couldn't connect with any of the characters. People were excited about this High Republic series when it was first announced; but I wasn't one of them. The notion of Carrie-Ann Moss having a role had me slightly more interested than Lee Jung-jae; but if you ask me hers was more of a spot cameo role to get a name on the marquee; so to speak (yes, I think it's a safe bet that more people have seen the Matrix films than Squid Game).

I can't imagine ever rewatching any of the episodes of this show; it doesn't tie into anything significant that happens 1000 years in the SW timeline. And if the stories continue in some other form like comics or novels, more power to it. I'll trust you'll let me know how it goes :)

Well it ties in a little to the PT. it just feels incomplete in some ways. Which could be seen as good or bad depending on how you felt about the show.

I was hoping for a much darker show, with more emphasis on the seduction to the dark side and delving into Sith lore. The last second, blink and you miss it reveal of Plagueis didn't have as much impact outside the fanbase, may be a slow reveal over the run of the season would've been better.

I hope they can incorporate some of the unused ideas and that of Plagueis into some other High Republic series or film.
