Regarding the bolded the I highlighted above, the overall culture is... bad, more or less. It's too suburban, too isolated from each other, and barely any community. A lot of families are military families or people that work work CyberSec or intel. And it skews the politics. It's also very, err, rich. Like, you have to be able to pay rent to be here. Hard to explain.

But yeah, that definitely skews the politics, but people rebel in spite of all this. Like, Glenn Youngkin would have more power if not for the people constantly voting against the grain and, increasingly, being in activist groups and organized (though the labor union percentage-rate is historically and infamously low here).

 

That would make it a better political metaphor than the ones you typically find in The High Republic series.

I mean, I hated the old EU compared to the new Disney EU, but it sometimes had nifty ideas.

It’s a good comparison because it turns out that both Musk and C’Baoth were always unhinged fascists with a god complex it just became more readily apparent because of clone madness/ being terminally disowned by his entire family.

 

Plus, people also wear ysalamari into their meetings with Musk. Metaphorically.

On a completely different note: anyone have suggestions on the best way to watch the election coverage Tuesday night when the only TV service I have is an antenna? In past elections, I would have bounced back and forth between MSNBC, CNN, and Fox News to get multiple perspectives as the votes were tallied, but I no longer have access to any of those channels as I canceled my cable channels subscription. All I get are over-the-air digital broadcast stations out of Dayton, OH, which includes affiliates of all four major networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox). Is there generally a good over-the-air option to watch how the votes shake out in real time, or is there a good internet source for that that doesn't cost any money?

Just like with 2020, there's a good chance a winner will not be declared on election night. I want to say I'll be doing something more enjoyable like playing video games or bashing my fingers with a hammer, but I'll probably watch TMR's stream or something.

That's the case in my very much not a swing state home. One guy near my work has had a Trump shrine up for years.

 

I assume I’ll be “playing” a video game but in actuality most of the time spent will be devoted to tabbing out to obsessively refresh election results.

 

I'm in the same boat. Amazon Prime has some live news channels. That's where we'll be, I believe.

 

I have put everything I could into this election and my dad. My dad’s situation had been taken care of. The election ain’t over. Once that’s over I plan on taking a break from the internet from November 5th 8AM to November 9th or tenth or whenever we learn the tentative election results before a billion lawsuits.

but I am going to avoid the internet like a plague.
