You need to save these scoops for your podcast.

He doesn't have to be a former Sith, but maybe a former Inquisitor. Somehow, I don't see the New Republic rehabilitating those Imperials.

I don't see how he could possibly be an ex-Sith, but then again, I guess Acolyte established there can be multiple baddies running around.

Maybe Jod is interested in the Sith, wants to become one, or just wants to plunder some Sith artifacts for wealth/power.

So, the droid's name is SM-33 (like Mr. Smee in Peter Pan), and Jod Na Nawood is a bit like Nana, the Darling family's nursemaid St. Bernard. I wonder if there will be other Peter Pan Easter egg names snuck in.

I’m sure there will be lots of pirate cliches. At least one will have a hook instead of a hand

Saw a quote from Jude Law that episode 7 reveals a lot about his character. I wonder what the revelation will be. His Jedi past? His true loyalties?

Okay, now after episode two it makes a bit more sense to me why Jude Law becomes the leader of this kids on that coincidental day and doesn't go with someone else at this place.
Obviously at such place you can't trust anybody, so a bunch of children with a spaceship to take him away is like a win in lottery for him.

By the way do we actually know if he’s a Jedi? Spoiler tag it if it’s a leak. I don’t trust him.

After seeing both episodes, seems pretty clear:
He's the captain that failed to get the credits and is mutinied by Brutus who throws him in the brig. He hears the kids are from a mythical world with treasure and tricks them into taking him.

Does he actually have the force? What we see appears to show that. But it's also possible he used some device to move that key. He definitely has his own agenda and it involves using the kids likely to go to the planet and claim this mystery treasure.

This. I am like 70% certain he isn’t a Jedi and if he is he isn’t a good one.

edit: they do mention Wim’s interest in Jedi before he appears

If he isn’t a Jedi I wonder how he pulled off the key trick. It’s also possible he is force sensitive but isn’t a Jedi.

Maybe he’s part of the Navigator’s Guild like Qilori of Uandualan.
    (He’s not.)

But still…there are any number of non-Jedi, non-Sith force using peoples out in the galaxy and I for one think it’s about damn time they got recognition on screen.

Part of the Navigator's Guild, you say? Would that make him a Guild Navigator?

Can it really be proper Star Wars without shamelessly stealing from Dune?

On the one hand, I like that he is not some relatively harmless con artist, but a ruthless pirate, that ordered to throw a man out the airlock. On the other, he is probably going to have a redemption arc, that can turn out to be morally questionable.

He seemed very clean-shaven for a guy who’s been rotting in the brig for awhile [face_thinking]

    Could mean nothing . . .

edit: nm, on rewatch I noticed that the Ishi’ Tib pirate who had his eye shot in the opening sequence was in the pirate port getting a cybernetic replacement. So, presumably not much time has passed since the mutiny and the kids arriving [face_thinking]

If that was no trick, it would imply he is a trained a force user with his focused and controlled he was with getting the key. He might have started being a pirate as a way to survive and at some point the act turned into who he became and maybe these kids will help him turn back.

Im going to go with the idea he isn't a jedi or even a force user. I think he knew he could gain the kids trust if they thought he was. How he did that trick with the key will probably be explained down the line.

It goes right with the depiction of a pirate to attempt to scam his crew for his own means

At first I thought SM-33 was going to be Long John Silver with the peg leg and Frost doing the Robert Newton impression, but I'm thinking more Ben Gunn. But if this is a bit Treasure Island-y, does it make Brutus "Blackbeard" Edward Teach if Stevenson had included him and Vane a sort of Israel Hands?

Wouldn't Jod have been a padawan around the time of Order 66? Or he's aging well. He could or couldn't be a lot of things. Better yet, I want to find out.

Not everyone requires training to use the Force. Less we forget the broom boys of the galaxy.
