A very good episode. Probably my favorite so far.

-The dystopian vibes continue on At-Attin itself. Definitely seems like the droids are in charge there, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if the Supervisor they all refer to is a droid as well.

-I do enjoy seeing the kids speculating about the Great Work being the treasure and trying to put together the puzzle of what their parents do in relation to the Great Work and potential treasure.

-Fascinating lore implications about the Jewel Worlds of the Republic being cut off (behind "barriers") for protection purposes and all of them being destroyed apart from At-Attin.

-I actually wonder if the worlds were cut off because of the Blight which we see in Phase 3 of the High Republic era. Perhaps these worlds had the Blight and were cut off (and the Great Work was the research on the Blight) and the other worlds that were cut off were destroyed by the Blight but somehow At-Attin figured out how to beat or manage the Blight to keep it at bay. If it is related to the Blight too, that would explain why people on At-Attin aren't permitted to travel elsewhere. There would have been the fear of them infecting other worlds with the Blight. This is all just a wild theory of mine, though, and I'm excited to see what answers the show will provide.

-Crimson Jack is a cool space pirate name. And his character is a fun and well-acted one as well.

-I love the wise owl alien character in her observatory. She was great.

-I like the development that KB got in this episode.

-Fun to see all the pirate details like the hammocks the boys sleep in.

-I think the settings are some of the best and most interesting that we have seen in live action Disney Star Wars, and the space pirate adventure structure continues to be good fun.

Going to go with a 10 out of 10 for this one.

    Excited for next week:cool:

I ended up watching the last five or so minutes twice, and not just because SM-33's nonverbal threat cracked me up. Pretty much everything on that moon was great. So far, Jod/Jack/Silvo has an interesting mix of charm and abrasiveness. I also like that the questions of why he didn't escape before and whether he actually used the Force both came up, particularly the way the latter was handled.

This show goes hard. What a magical adventure. I loved everything about 1X03.
Jude Law's charisma tops the charts.

Another good episode, although I really wish Disney would be making them 40min at minimum.

Jude Law is playing an interesting role, maybe the most interesting of any in the streaming shows thus far. He has to play off the kids and does that well imo, but he’ll also switch when they’re not around. Not much else happened this time except introducing him, and he held it down imo so I’ll probably give this episode and 8 or 9.

    • When SM-33 comes back for a second “aye” [face_laugh]
    • Ja-Nawood having a little chat with the pirate droid tech, great stuff
    • Ever since TROS people have been debating who the “bad guys” should be in future Star Wars movies and many have suggested “pirates”. That probably means something a little different to everyone but either way we’ve now got the most pirate-y Star Wars ever so at least we know what it looks like, and I think it looks pretty good.
    • The Owl - a little far on the Harry Potter side but it works
    • Editing is very zippy but sometimes it does slow down and the characters have a moment to themselves. The directing has been good there too, I’m tempted to say this might be the most formally accomplished of the shows. Andor was very sharp too but also flat and just joyless.
    • The ship jumping to hyperspace with a fuel line attached - in principle I’m never a fan of hyperspace mechanics getting liberalized and we’ve too much of it in the Disney era imo, but that that ship blasted out of port a long time ago and this wasn’t an egregious one.

Force sensitive is the most likely explanation imo. Former Jedi youngling. I can imagine what the writers were thinking, they want the 5-7 year old fans to have the satisfaction of triumphantly telling their older siblings/parents, “See I told you he was a Jedi!”

Force sensitive with little jedi training. I love this episode. Jud Law is great as Jod. Love his comedy. Love the mystery and more of At Attin. Love the owl alien. Nice seeing X wings.

Agree, seems rather possible. Although Supervisor probably just follows its programming (like AUTO from WALL-E), without having its own nefarious plans.

I know i should not dig that but i do… sorry not sorry
He somehow reminds me of him but in a little brother version… do the years match? Could he have been a baby when Obi Wan was taken to the Jedi? (He remembers a baby he says) Maybe Obi Wan was taken and little Jod was hidden cause the parents did not want to loose both sons? And he grew up resenting both the Jedi and his parents? Who knows…
But: I think he has the force and he does not think of himself as a Jedi… but I do think he may have gone through order 66 though… he does not trust droids and says they eventually betray you… and after all we are in the new republic now, Jedi do not really “exist” right now… there are former Jedi who escaped order 66 and the inquisitors bust most of them had to do stuff and make choices to stay alive and they are “no more Jedi” so…
About At Attin I am starting to form a theory about the “Great Work”
it seems all related to money and currencies.. kids are being feed advanced economics at school and they speak about taking into account the fungibility of multiple currencies, they learn tables by heart that are not multiplication tables but may be CONVERSION tables (Wim says the table of five and then something like 0.604…) they have a lot of credits they use freely As if they were devoid of value for them…
I am starting to think the great work may have been that At Attin was a sort of vault/bank used to stock currency and maybe keep it from the galaxy in order to regulate economy by avoiding inflation and such by taking some part of a certain currency out of the market to regulate it? And also trading by currency exchange in order to make profit… I am not an economist do we have an economist in the thread? I also think the ship that was boarded by the pirates in the start was up to something and that the vault was indeed full before… what if the planet is not completely isolated but it is still used for its intended purpose of vault (but not market regulator maybe) by someone posing as the Republic but it is not? What if when the empire took over they kept using it sent a new supervisor and when the empire was taken down the information was erased and the supervisor on the planet stayed in contact with imperial remnants and they are now using At Attin to stock money to build the “budget” for what the shadow council (that’s the right name right?) wants to do?
The supervisor knows, the others have no idea?
Wim’s father is starting to doubt something?
And also KBs mums said she has “ a medical condition” and a vital monitor and needs to be checked but KB also felt people in the hallway… crazy theory:
What if KB is force sensitive and the cybernetics is there to harness her so she does not “show” and she does not “feel” that something is wrong on the planet? And that’s how they keep the (inevitable every now and then) force sensitive kids who are born on the planet from messing up something? They are tested identified and harnessed with the cybernetics and the parents told they have an “illness” that needs to be “cured”?
(That may just be my adhd self transposing the “your kid as a disorder it is called adhd you need to give them methylphenidate all the time to “cure them and make them normal” … I sometimes see parallels between such thing as ADHD and being force sensitive … it can be a great gift but it needs a lot of training and effort and someone has to show you the way or it could also be very destructive on your life and what is around you… Ehehe)
And the mural definitely means something about the families of the kids?
But yeah I think At Attin is now under control of imperial remnants who are storing money on it and deceiving the population who thinks they are still working for the republic but they are now acting as a bank for the imperial remnants and maybe trading… that’s what it is all the analysts and system coordinators.. they trade currency and make profit? It would def track with what the kids are taught! Sankey diagrams are used for money flows, fungibility of multiple
Currency, conversion tables… we need a financial analyst in here possibly trained in cyber trading .. I sense someone out there announce yourself!
So yes that was long and confused but I believe I may be not something Ehehe
Waiting for opinions about my disheveled theory!
And I definitely will not concentrate at work because oh the maker how can I…I need to find out!
And yes I LOVED the episode!
    This is being great
    Love it!
By the way yesterday the comments on insta under the sw promo were saying “episode 3 is WOKE it gets BAD!”
I guess it is because of KB having two moms? [face_dunno]
No comment… I think nowadays what is not mirroring “reality” and “representative” if you want to be picky is that all these kids seem to have loving parents who care about them even if they may work too much or be too much about results but they love them and are kind to them… and having worked in the sector I have worked I can tell the haters that THAT is not realistic because a lot of kids out there IRL are not so lucky… I does not matter if you have one two three parents or relatives of which color gender or shape … if you have someone loving you dearly worrying about you and caring about you you are LUCKY … (and I was and still am and I am grateful for it every day) so yeah maybe it’s time to stop complaining about the gender of parental couples (they got two loving parental figures they lucky let them be) and start to get all offended about all these kids who are left with no one or have abusive parents? Maybe? Please?
Can we get hate on that matter?
    That would
Be great and it would also help to adress the struggle
Of all these kids and get them help…
Sorry it had to come out Ehehe

This so really captures the essence of Star Wars to me, which is that the setting naturally makes for such great stories if you just pick any random character and follow them around for a bit. You can be a suburban school kid just trying to deal with your parents and your grades and you’re only ever one hyperspace jump away from meeting murderous pirates and funny little Owl Astronomers, and that chance meeting will be one of the strangest days they’ve had just as much as it is strange to you. You can do such a basic plot, some kids got lost and they want to get home, and make it feel like such a grand adventure just because of the setting. It’s such a simple formula it kind of boggles my mind whenever they don’t get it right, but so far this show has totally nailed the vibes for me through 3 episodes.

This was great. The show keeps getting better and better.

I'd say it's pretty clear that Jude Law isn't the Crimson Jack. It's one of his aliases, obviously, but one he probably stole from the real Crimson Jack. Like Ezra calling himself Jabba the Hutt or Lando Calrissian in Rebels.

    Edit to avoid double posting:
Checking the credits, the Ishi Tib pirate was voiced by Alfred Molina. That's awesome.

Really good episode, the mystery keeps getting more intriguing. Also this episode just looked really good visually, the CGI was top notch. It looks and feels like peak Star Wars. Jod is definetely an intriguing character and I loved Kh'ymm and the lore about the Jewels of the Old Republic, hope we learn more about them.

9/10, can't wait for next weeks episode.

    Another winner.

the Skeletom Cree walking single file against the backdrop of a giant Jovian planet was breath taking imagery.

It’s a beautiful show and it’s funny. The humor lands effortlessly with me and often.

Totally agree...I couldn't help but think of "Rings of Power" and how they stretched out the Gandalf revelation over two seasons even tho the audience knew who he was from the beginning. Glad SC did the opposite. Also revealed is the fact he is indeed the deposed pirate Captain Silvo, something which has been speculated about. Glad they didn't drag that out either. It makes the character more interesting as we know a lot more about him and he is completely untrustworthy with ulterior motives but Law's performance makes him likeable. I think he will have a face-turn at some point during the series

Yeah, he's realizing something is rotten in At Attin.

Jod's reaction to the ship was interesting. He tried to play it off like Luke's "What a piece of junk" reaction to the Falcon, but there was definitely more to it. Jod recognized that ship. Too soon to say if he recognized the general type of ship and its specific purpose, or if he knows something special about that particular ship.

Wild thought: maybe it's the SW version of the Flying Dutchman (the one from nautical lore, not the PotC version). But I doubt he'd have gotten on board if that's what it is.

I think there's some "you never heard of the millennium falcon" lore about to be had here with that ship. The ship probably hasn't been seen in like 200+ years and suddenly its here. It gives him reason to believe the kids are telling the truth, or at least, gives him reason to follow to find out more.

Then there's also the question of where did its real captain end up. He must've died on At Atin. Or maybe he's the Supervisor (e.i. The Captain).
