In that case it is a miracle that Jod (apparently) does not want the galaxy to burn.

I love comparing and contrasting Jod-Silvo-Jack’s projection of a persona versus the two most famous “fakers” in the original Trilogy - Han and Lando.

Both Han and Lando of course succeeded in actually becoming or just being something equal or greater than their personas - Jod-Silvo-Jack’s not quite their yet. Han and Jod might have similar immaturity about their projected personas as roguish bad boys, but Han, whether he realized it at first or not, was much more mature as a scrappy military man, while Jod is clearly not fully realized in *any* persona or substance yet. Lando comes off as more mature than either Han or Jod in the persona he crafts and succeeds in becoming it, but somewhat ironically and tragically, discovers the weight of becoming the “dignified but capable gentleman of both leisure and adventure” in a very harrowing way, while Jod can’t even keep with one single persona enough to let them develop too far.

And of course, Han and Lando are both somewhat better “actors” regardless, while you get the feeling that Jod struggles with maintaining his personas even with mostly inebriated idiots among pirates, and gets seen through by more curious or untrusting children.

I do wonder what Krell was like before the war.

I use the Krell arc of TCW to illustrate it is not a kids show. Imagining Krell with a padawan, or a as a padawan, is truly unpleasant. He didn't seem like the type to keep his opinions to himself. The Order really needed a class, "How to Tell if They're Going to the Dark Side, Parts 1 and 2." Or at least a Cosmo quiz.

As there are very few coincidences in the SW universe, Crimson Jack feels like it's drawn from Crimson Dawn. Of all the choices to use, to opt for something that easily links back to an established in-universe group feels like it's been done on purpose.

So far, the character only has two identities. Jod and Captain Crimson Jack Silvo.

Crimson Jack predates Crimson Dawn by decades, so I see no necessary connection between the two.

Regarding possible connections with the rest of Mandoverse - wonder if Jod will mention Baylan as another Jedi that became criminal.

Personally, my bet is currently "Not a jedi, but a force sensitive kid who was saved by the hidden path and given some basic force lessons"

I like to headcanon that one of the inquisitors was his padawan.

And that Vice Admiral Rampart was his military advisor, like Yularen was to Anakin.

He is too old to have been saved by the hidden path as a kid, he is like Anakin's age.

Before the series started streaming my guess was an Order 66 survivor who turned to piracy later in life, but now I'm not so sure. I'm leaning towards not-a-force-user but I'll need to see a few more eps before I make up my mind ;)

I'm going with a Force user that grew up after the Jedi had been destroyed. He was obsessed with their legends like Wim, but they were gone before he could join.

So there's an idealistic part of him, but he never got to be that person because he had to survive, and to survive he became a pirate and scoundrel.

He's telling the truth when he tells the kids he's all alone.

I know I said that Jude Law was not really my thing but…
    … I like Jod… like I really like him:D[face_blush]
He is part Ezra part Kanan and that raspy voice reminds me of Mando…
    … there is definitely a lot we don’t know…
… they keep not showing us how he gets out of situations?
In the spaceport with the other pirate they just jumpers to the chasing scene.. here they jump to him with the eopies? Does not make any sense he bought them, see my post in the episode thread.. what kind of warrior would accept shiny metal in examfhe of the most prized possession of their enemy which is also transportation/food on a barren world which probably functions on barther? Renouncing the possibility to seize a ship with guns that could take down the turrets of the Troiks?

Either he is getting out of these situations with ruthless violence and they don’t want to show it (yet)… or he is barthering favors of some kinds and a lot of that is a con…
… or he is using the force and he is more powerful than we think and we are not supposed to know yet?

Also he behaves like a strangely patient and caring Jedi master with these kids… not like a pirate who is ready to betray them… when they got back together he was really caring and reassuring with them…

and that jump to shut Smee down? Really Ezra coded and a bit of force-sy?

I like him more and more and hope he will not end up being a scam

I see a lot of Ezra but also some Kanan emerging and I like that… we need someone like that to teach the next generation of force sensitives… and I want him to meet Ezra but also Din and Grogu… it would be interesting to compare the shenaningans they have to put up with their respective younglings!

The dumbest theory I have is that if he isn’t an actual force user, he has an invisible bodyguard following him around, like the Wraith from the Thrawn trilogy. Maybe Niles Ferrier is another name he goes by!

The other most realistic explanations for his constant escapes are:

    1. He IS a force user
    2. He cut a deal with Brutus to redeem himself and is being constantly trailed by pirates trying to find At Attin. The crux of the story would be that he’s now led the pirates to their home and has to decide where his loyalties lie. Perhaps oversold the bit when he killed all those guys with the hyperspace chord at Port Borgo.

All of those points are very much in character for Long John Silver.

I think I could live with it if we don't get answers to all our questions about JodJackSilvo. Maybe at the last moment he escapes custody through a clever stratagem and the last we see is him sailing off into the sunset like Long John, and we can't help admiring his scoundrelly wits and hoping that he makes it.

I think that in one of the promotional videos with the cast of Skeleton Crew, Jude mentions he has even more names as the show progresses.

In The Force Awakens, Finn was going to hop a ride from Sidon Ithano, aka The Crimson Corsair, who is also featured in the book The Crimson Corsair and the Lost Treasure of Count Dooku, along with his first mate, Quiggold.
Yet another pirate with Crimson in the name.

Whenever I think of Jod and redemption, I run into the fact our first introduction to him is throwing a cargo captain out the airlock. I'm also of the mind he made a deal with Brutus in episode 3. He may well be a force user, but he didn't make it to captain playing by the Order's rule book. His redemption may be harder to come by once all his secrets are revealed.

I could say the same thing about Hondo. However, his loyalty to Ezra was enough to redeem him in my opinion. Will Jod's ultimate loyalty to the kids be his redemption? Most likely, one of SW strongest themes is redemption.

I’m hoping he’s not in a secret deal with Brutus, that seems like way too hard a sell after the action in episode 3. My guess is still that he’s just a force user turned pirate, his character dilemma will be whether he decides to “do the right thing” when they get back to At-Atten. It would be very amusing to see him have interactions with the parents.

When you know he is the pirate leading the attack on that ship in episode 1 its kinda hard not to expect some of that side of him to pop back up as the show goes on.

Yes I agree with this. Baylan told Shin that Ezra was a Bokkan Jedi (Not sure of the spelling?) A person who was trained in the wild( most likely after the fall of the Jedi Order) Jod is anywhere from 45-50 I'd guess age wise, which would possibly put him around at the Order's fall.

The English spelling should be “bokken” in Japanese it is 木剣, it is the name of the wooden training sabers you use in Japanese martial arts like Kendo and such… saying you are a bokken Jedi is more or less like saying you were never trained with the “real stuff” (real saber that cuts people in half eheheh) but only with the wooden one so you are not a “true Jedi”
I quite like the term I would like to have a shirt that says “Bokken Jedi and proud to be” ehehe

Considering Jude Law's age, his character would have been a padawan by Order 66 time (remember the show timeline is the of the Mandoverso, 5-10 years after Endor)

Order 66 was 19 BBY...SC is 9 ABY...So 28 years. Jude Law is 51 so character is around that age. And was 23ish around Order 66. Either a senior Padawan like Ahsoka was or just made Knight.

Okay that makes sense. So he may have been there to see the order fall, unless he left prior to that.

Seems rather possible to me that Jod will start to deflect blaster bolts with lightsaber in the next episode.
