Do we boycott Twitter? UPDATE: VOTING PERIOD OVER

I think the boycott of the right thing to do. But given that we won’t have any actual impact with our boycott, I think we should await the forum upgrade coming soon, so as to not disrupt the ability to share, especially since videos are one of the best things about tweets. Assuming the upgrade isn’t ages away, of course.

 

I said it in the thread this was originally brought up in. Ban them

look Elon is a Nazi. And if I can have any influence on even one person not using his ****** site as much as possible I’ll do it.

the ****posting thread can continue as normal it’s pretty easy to use Imgur or Img BB to imbed images here if you must share a tweet.

the less traffic the better.

I agree that we don’t have much impact but to me it’s much more about the principle of it then it is the fact that we only have about a thousand visitors at any given time on the site

I cannot abide Elon Musk. I haven’t been able to stand him for years. What he did was unforgivable. His support of Tommy Robinson is Unforgivable. I could go on.

we also have no clue right now when that upgrade of the forum is going to happen. And I would rather not wait for it. When for all we know it could be in 3 months or 2 years.

and as far as I understand it. It wouldn’t be that hard to implement.

I would have no issues if it was blocked and anything from Twitter I wanted to post be a screenshot. The less link to Musks garbage site is probably for the better.

I would have no issue with embedding for Bluesky as it (so far) appears to have the old Twitter style checks and balances in place but considering how Twitter/Facebook etc... are very quickly proving to be more of a harm than a benefit, I don't think I'd have a major grumble these days if Bluesky wasn't enabled either.

Not too fussed on the timing. I'm happy for it to go now, it wouldn't hurt but we're not really going to impact Musk and his "dodgy" (Clearly Nazi) salutes

 

I assume the upgrade is a ways down the road based on previous experience with these things and the current pace. I say ban embeds/links ASAP. Elon has been an obvious Nazi for at least a couple years now, he's turned Twitter into the world's largest Nazi platform, and he now has the ear of the Nazi President of the United States. He's Sieg Heil'ing as a le epic troll behind the presidential seal. A boycott from our tiny messageboard alone won't have an impact, but to me it's about a larger collective stand.

Screenshots aren't difficult to share on mobile or PC (for me it's just screenshot->upload to imgur->post here) and news articles and such can just be linked directly.

Gotcha. I would say the only thing we kind of lose out on is not being able to share tweets with videos but that's probably a necessary sacrifice.

 

I don't think those videos play in those embeds anyway. At least not generally for me.

 

I think they always force you go to the site/app to watch, which you can't do if you don't have an account.

 

They've always played for me in the embeds.

 

If a video is cool enough you probably can find it on YouTube.

 

Huh, that's odd. Might be inconsistent functionality from a platform from which the genius owner laid off 80% of staff and had to draft Tesla and SpaceX engineers to keep things going.

 

If the forum upgrade is possibly over 6 months away, I’d change my vote to straight away (although I realise, by the way you’re speaking, you may not know).

You could always just say your username and then tell people it’s on twitter. I mean it isn’t as fast. But it’s still semi effective

 

To be clear, I don’t actually use Twitter, so I personally don’t embed them. I just like the videos which are sometimes shared on here. You’re all my drug supplier.

I think I figured it out. If it's a tweet that quotes another one with a video in it, like this one, then I get redirected to the site. But if it's just a tweet with a video, like the post below that one, then it plays in the embed. Amazing functionality indeed.

 

I voted for the first option; I’ve been thinking that way since Musk bought it and renamed it.

Also… not the point of this poll, but at the top of the screen we still have links to this site’s Facebook and Twitter accounts. Are those even still used, and do they still need to be linked?
