Aw dang I was kind of hoping we'd get a Bad Batch novel set during the Clone Wars. It would be really cool to see their wartime exploits in the vein of the Republic Commando novels.

I'll get it, but I'm a bit disappointed on the timeline placement (not a lot, just a bit). Happy that we'll get more Tech, sad we're not covering "one last mission" after season 3 ended. I'd also have preferred an in between the scenes of the beginning of S3 to figure out what the heck was going on with Omega and her blood.

Awesome, i loved this series and the characters, glad to see they are up for using them in different mediums.

Also is it just me or is Omega wearing a tiny Bad Batch armor on the cover?

As expected. The premise sounds awfully boring and unnecessary. If they had to make a Bad Batch novel, it should've been during the Clone Wars, or about Imperial Crosshair.

Bad Batch isn’t my thing but I’m happy we are getting proper tie-in material. In a perfect world we would’ve had 27 Mandalorian paperback novels sold at truck stops by this point.

Yea I’ve honestly been disappointed with the tie in material for the shows since rebels ended

No mention of Echo, yet they seem to be in their old colors. Odd.

...though on second thought that is probably just the color scheme of the cover.

I confess I do kind of wish it was a different time period - particularly post season 3 so we can get a view of what victory and peace means for them, even if it means it is a more slice of life story - but I am still interested in more on Phee and hopefully Pabu. They worked well enough in the show, but a little exploration of them to add some depth and detail is something I would appreciate.

I'm so far behind on my Star Wars reading that I'll probably be cracking this open in mid 2027 or so. Still, sounds good though. Glad the BB are getting some books/comics love. I have a feeling Wrecker, in particular, is going to be a pretty fun character in this format.

So true. Full time accounting school really doesn't align with my dream of reading every Bantam novel. One day!

Having a book set within S2 seems a bit strange. It really does highlight how constrained and limited the book side of SW media has become.

Like I think the only reason they don’t do one either during TCW or after the bad batch ends both of which would be more interesting is because their like on the off chance we do something with them again you cannot write anything. And that’s a really off chance of them doing anything with them again during TCW. If it was after the show I get that a bit more.

Or - and I realize this is a wild, out-there, highly unlikely theory, but I'll throw it out there anyway - maybe that's just the story the author wanted to write?
Yeah, I'm a good ways out from retirement myself. I imagine that's when I'll probably get caught up on all the other, non-Star Wars reading I want to do.

Meanwhile, a Bad Batch comic actually about their time in the Clone Wars starts next week.

I do think a lot of the novels have been way too constrained by future projects in the works and that's when you get books like this that just feels odd.

Like I won’t say more to more tech content. He was by far my favorite character in the first 2 seasons other than Omega

although crosshair ended up beating him out if I consider all 3 seasons.

Personally I think I’ve had my fill of books set in the PT-OT gap. And the fact that it’s a Phee Adventure of the Week story doesn’t do much for me either.

Crosshair ended up being the only Batcher who had any real depth as a character

Strong disagree but agree on wrecker and echo who I still think shouldn’t have ever been brought back

I still remember thinking that Wrecker was going to get killed off at somepoint at the start of season one

It's a mighty big coincidence that no author has 'wanted' to write a story post- a media project then wouldn't you say?

I think the bolder assumption is that the authors currently have much autonomy in where/when their story is set. Almost* all material (outside of THR) has served as tie in media to TV/movies which is a sad relegation of books.

*I know the recent TLF and Windu books have been pleasing exceptions but even then are 'prequel' books with characters whose fates are already determined where the state of play at the beginning and end of the novel has no impact on broader events.

It’s why the high republic is great and books like battlefront twilight company are also great. And just original characters in general.

a good story can be written with characters with prexisiting fates, but it’s more fun to not know
