Discussion Star Wars: Starfighter (Formerly Ryan Gosling and Sean Levy A Star Wars Story)

Yah this wasn't an announcement and Patty Jenkins walking to an X-Wing, this is preproudction and shooting in the fall. I also think this is a reworked Rogue Squadron (unless that really was OT era)

Starfighter. Singular. As in Gosling is the Starfighter. Star Wars Starfighter: A Ryan Gosling and Sean Levy Star Wars Story

 

It's being reported that he is a jedi. Which means he was trained by Rey....

No, the original Roque Squadron premise made it clear it will be in the post-TROS era.
It does seem indeed that they reworked Roque Squadron into a different movie.

 

Sorry I shoulda been more specific. It's being "reported" by Daniel Richtman that's he's the jedi who decides to train his 15 year old nephew as his padawan.

The fact that no one but Dan reported that Ryan was playing a Jedi, it’s safe to say he ain’t a Jedi

 

I hope you are correct! Would be kinda bummed if it's a jedi movie, as weird as that is to say.

 

^ This is what I've been saying all along.

 

We’ll, Levy did say that only one of the rumours that he’d seen about his film was correct, and that was the one about Gosling playing the main character. Maybe he just hadn’t seen the romper about the Jedi, but i feel like if that were the case, the movie would probably be called Star Wars: Lightsaber not Starfighter.

I’m also hoping this is not a Jedi movie.

If he’s a loose cannon, Wurth Skidder/ Ganner Rhysode NJO style Jedi/pilot/badass, I’ll be first in line to see this.

 

Very excited for this, and I'm a little surprised they're sticking to the May release schedule. This will be a mere 3 weeks after another Avengers film, and one week before Beyond the Spider-Verse. Both of those films will be much more highly anticipated than an allegedly self contained Star War.

 

I still think Avengers: Secret Wars is going to get moved as they just started Doomsday. Spider-Verse release dates seem also very fluid. Only 5 months after Mandalorian and Grogu might be a bigger concern

this movie is coming out a year after Mandalorian and Grogu

I would defer any decisions regarding the release date till after that movie, since it serves as a canary in the coal mine for the VERY CONCEPT of Star Wars as a big screen property

if Mandalorian overperforms, move it

if Mandalorian flops, don’t move it

because there is no where you can move that movie where it won’t flop

 

You're right. What's next, some movie about the spies who stole the plans to the Death Star? Preposterous, audiences will never go for it.

Are you just grumpy that Gosling and Levy came out on stage and said they're in production? Aside from Mandalorian and Grogu, it's the most concrete film production we've had since Rise of Skywalker

 

I don’t like this movie being the 2nd Star Wars movie after Mando n Grogu.

To much familiarity, especially because this movie is only set 5 years after TRoS.

It should have been Dawn of the Jedi.

I would not be surprised if the enemy of Starfighter is First Order leftovers.

We've been over this a million times over the past seven years. There are reasons for that which go far beyond "people didn't want to see a recast of Han Solo" and which hinge far more on "the movie was poorly marketed and it seems large swaths of the general public didn't know it was in theatres because they had been conditioned to expect December releases by three consecutive years of films."

 

Solo is the best of the Disney era feature films. (Runs and hides)

 

I would be almost as excited as Sarge (nobody can reach those levels) if it wasn’t for…Shawn Levy. How can the same company that gives Tony Gilroy full artistic freedom on a show hire Levy? But I’m open to being surprised.

 

As along as it’s just a fun romp, I’m not too worried about Levy.

 

Sounds like its a reworked Rogue Squadron. Sounds fun and Ryan Gosling is probably playing a Rogue character. But the 15 year old will probably be the jedi padawan. I think Shawn Levy wants to have a jedi in this. We will probably see Oscar Isaac return as Poe Dameron in this and one reason he was supposed to be at Celebration. Maybe Poe and Ryan Gosling character are friends.
