Strangest take I’ve seen yet. But whatever! You do you. Glad you really liked it anyway.

Very good intro for the new season, even that the Andor episode was my least favorite part, but good for it's own.

My thought as well. The dialogue began the same way the movie Conspiracy does. Chilling.

Well the opening was a real hoot, love that ship.

The Ghorman 1950's style travelogue film - ooh no, that took me right out of the world.

I noticed that there were no non-humans in this episode, maybe there was and I missed it, but in all 4 locations it was all humans, wasn't it?

Loved the opening sequence with Cassian's pep talk and stealing the TIE Avenger. What made it so impactful was the contrast between his confidence beforehand, and all the little mess ups that he had before finally getting away. Needing to see Cassian face minor setbacks during the action scenes was one of my bigger critiques of season 1, and this sequence delivered on that potential. It would have been dynamite to witness on a big screen with loud sound.

Conversely, Cassian's detour on the jungle planet starts off well enough in illustrating how fractured the Alliance is at this point (or at least how disorganized this specific Rebel cell is), but it grew frequently frustrating. I understand that it's part of the point (and this critique extends to the next episode), but the narrative often felt like it was just running in place. Also, the episode could have had a cleaner breaking off point than just stopping abruptly right when the action kicked back into gear.

The wedding buildup on Chandrila was probably my favorite narrative thread for this entire arc, and the thing that stood out here was that long take of Mon Mothma managing all the different faces showing up. On the one hand, I don't know that I needed that kind of oner, but I still think it worked in conveying how much she had to juggle. The other more effective long take was the Dr. Gorst nightmare reveal with Bix on Mina-Rau. If there's one clear weak link in this series, it's unfortunately Leida, and while she was easier to overlook in season 1, her key scene with Mon in this episode just didn't land for me. Yes, it's indicative that Mon sacrificed her daughter's future for the Rebellion, but emotionally, the scene was neither here nor there for me.

Krennic's secluded briefing with the ISB had all the smarmy theatricality you could expect from the man (although I thought the Gorman informational video just did not work tonally as an exposition dump), but the best part of that sequence was his one on one with Dedra later on. Also, the fact that he alluded to Ferrix begs the question how did Dedra manage to continue rising up the ISB ranks after conflict at the end of season 1? That was by far a bigger debacle than Syril's, and he was rapidly kicked to the curb. She must have built up enough confidence from Partagaz to ensure she'd keep her job.

He basically says that’s why he recruited her for the job. That for an average person such a debacle would end their career, so the fact that she managed to recover from it indicates that she must be particularly smart/resourceful in one way or another.

I mean, its right out of propaganda and Germany stuff of the 30s,40s. The whole base in the "alps', high-castle, thing where Imperials plot secret evil doings.

I think it also worked because it was so joyous and light, and contrasted by the fact that a bunch of evil Imperials were watching with confusions. They were all like 'why are we watching this Disney crap? Can we get to the evil point now?"

They even had the "And now I will turn the floor over to our Ministry of Propaganda" moment.

Seriously, an Alpine Lodge discussion of how best to seize a sovereign land and commit genocide over glasses of champagne and hors d'oeuvres screamed for a classic news reel to be presented to the gathering.

When I saw that location on trailer I immediately thought Hitler's lair, and the German propaganda mountain films and triumph of the wills

That’s what was so great about the scene. I think the audience shares in the uncomfortable confusion among the imperials in the room. Why are we watching this? must have been on the mind of many at home, and not just on screen. Until we find out. And the horror this sets up will be worth it.

The scenes about Imperial propaganda are equally frightening, amazing, or enraging.

10/10 just for those scenes mirroring our world so well.

I expected a presentation on the Death Star project. For a brief moment, I thought the Ghorman spider silk video was a pre-roll ad, skippable after 5 seconds.

I did, but thinking about it, they would probably want security on it to be airtight, still. They are still a couple years away from completion after all.
