Congratulations to the Rey Random people if she's really not a Skywalker, this is really saddening though.

Feel disappointed in JJ Abrams as a filmmaker and like being done with Star Wars for a while...

I agree with WookieeRage, I'm deeply suspicious of JJ--who has obviously wanted to keep this a secret--to tell all in an answer to a question I'm sure he highly anticipated. I feel somewhat burned by this honestly, if it's true, because of the references to Rey and the Skywalker legacy in the film. I have my doubts this is true. We'll see how it plays out.

 

Sorry, Drewton. I know how much you really wanted the story to go this route. Trust TPTB though and don't give up on it. You might be pleasantly surprised.

 

If she's not Luke's I'm a little bummed out for him because he was my favorite. But, if she isn't his, I'm okay with it if the story is s good one.

 

I do feel bad for the ReySkys of this thread, you guys are cool.

 

There's no story they could tell that would make me care. I don't have any faith in TPTB. Nothing that has come out since the Disney purchase, outside of the Ahsoka arc in Rebels, has really captured my interest the way the old EU and last ten years of the franchise had. I'm actually devastated. They ruined Star Wars for me and I really am angry about this.

 

Should have expected it when JJ said a Star Wars movie wouldn't be Star Wars without a cantina scene...

Did he even watch the other five movies?

If we've been misdirected to believe Rey is a Skywalker, not cool.

If we're being misdirected now to believe Rey is not a Skywalker, not cool.

Really hate how this has been handled now either way.

There is a skywalker descendent and his name is Ben Solo..he needs to be saved and restored because he is the last Skywalker descendent..this is why so many of us want there to be a redemption for him and we believe it will happen and the fact that she is not a Skywalker just makes the situation much more desperate for Kylo Ren and the Skywalker family to be restored to greatness.

 

Yeah, I am definitely of the opinion that Rey is not Rey Skywalker at this point, or JJ is lying yet again. And Rey NotSkywalker, IMO, never should have been a mystery box in the first place. Just tell the story. Lame all around.

 

Eh, still didn't like him as a character. He wasn't that interesting to me. And, he's not the main protagonist. That matters too.

 

Lovely. And everybody can choose to either trust JJ or not. I personally believe him because the movie itself told me everything I needed to know about Rey's lineage, and I trust my own ability to understand a narrative. I knew she wasn't Luke's right away.



JJ admitted he made a mistake when he lied previously. Doubt he'd do it again, especially because he already has the reputation. Pablo seems to back up JJ too. I guess you can just choose to believe there's some mass conspiracy going on here... but Rey Skywalker never existed.

 

That's because he is still being dogged by is Snoke Darth Plagueis questions after he's already done his best to debunk it.

If people won't believe the actors and the creatives behind the actual movies, what can Pablo do? In his own way, he's been steering people away from Rey Skywalker for ages, but once people's minds are made up it is hard to get them to see past it.

 

Luke is still young enough to have a family. Perhaps he will?

 

Agreed. I know what its like to be very invested in something in a story and for the rug to be ripped from under your feet. Its happened to me before with certain franchises. Its not a good feeling.

 

JJ said he made a mistake in making Khan a mystery.

If Rey is random, this was not the way to learn from that mistake.

 

Word. If Kylo Ren is the last Skywalker, wow, that is so terribly disappointing to me. What a way to destroy the Skywalkers. Thanks a lot JJ and Disney

 

And I defended Rey being a Luke copy and being able to defeat Kylo untrained so much because I thought it just meant she was a Skywalker...

 

I guess we know now for sure that Disney completely threw out Lucas' story for the ST. He specifically mentioned Skywalker grandCHILDREN. Now I'm even more upset he didn't just make these films himself. Hopefully he reveals the real sequel story at some point.
