I have said it before, but on each watch of Rogue One, I am amazed at just how they got the tone and feel of it to seamlessly slot onto the start of ANH as if it were a straight prequel. Technically, it is some achievement. It feels more Star Wars than A New Hope, which is ridiculous, as it draws all its visual inspiration from that movie.

As love letters to Star Wars go, Rogue One will take some beating. It is easily the best of the four Disney era movies so far imo.

I love it dearly (I rank it second of the Disney era behind TLJ but damn it's such a joy to watch!). And to think soon we'll be seeing more of some of these characters. :D

To date R1 has been the only Disney era movie of the franchise that I've bought on Blu-Ray upon release date. I'm sure I'll eventually buy the ST when it's released in a set like the OT and PT were.

But that "half dozen other franchises" part being before the rest of SW? [face_talk_hand] :p

To be fair, though, I think he’s including the Mummy, the Step Up and Alvin and the Chipmunks franchises in his list, which are hard for Star Wars to compete with.

Rogue One is like taking my childhood imagination of that galaxy far, far away and projecting in on the big screen.

    1. Rogue One (2016)

    3. Star Wars (1977)
    4. Return of the Jedi (1983)
    5. The Last Jedi (2017)
    6. The Force Awakens (2015)
    7. Solo (2018)
    8. Rebels (2014 - 2018 animated tv series)
    9. Ewoks (1985 - 1986 animated tv series)
    10. Star Wars: Resistance (2018 animated tv series)
    11. Star Wars Holiday Special (1978)
    12. Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008 - 2014 animated tv series)
    13. Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure (1984 tv movie)
    14. Ewoks: The Battle for Endor (1985 tv movie)
    15. The Phantom Menace (1999)
    16. Attack of the Clones (2002)
    17. Revenge of the Sith (2005)

You seriously rank Rebels, Ewoks and Resistance above TCW; not to mention the Holiday Special?

I love The Clone Wars animated series, but yes, I love the Holiday Special more. I'm old enough to remember when variety shows were popular in prime time and the Holiday Special just has a nostalgia that gets to me. There's nothing else quite like it. I have very fond memories of the Ewoks animated series as well. As for Resistance, it captured my attention from the very first episode. Rebels got better over time and The Clone Wars took a while to grow on me.

I think Resistance, so far, is much better than TCW was at this stage of its development. Though TCW has some arcs that are still some of my favorite Star Wars material, there’s a lot of junk to wade through, IMO.

Rogue One is the best SW film from the Disney era and I would rank it probably in fifth place, behind the OT and ROTS. It was very good. It's not even close what better characters Jyn Erso and Cassian are than Rey and Finn too. And the former ones had one film while the latter have had two so far.

Snapping at the heels of the holy duo of ANH and ESB for me. Easily the best Disney release.

    A New Hope
    The Empire Strikes Back
    Rogue One

    Revenge of the Sith
    Return of the Jedi
    Solo

    Attack of the Clones

    The Force Awakens

    The Phantom Menace

    The Last Jedi

For me it was pretty much the other way around. I was hooked on TCW almost from the beginning. Rebels took awhile for me to appreciate, and I'm still trying to reach the point with Resistance where I'm looking forward to the next episode.

When I first started with TCW, those first episodes that make up the opening "movie" were so bad, it put me off watching any more for a long time, but I was eventually convinced to give it another try by some fans of the show. I still couldn't quite get into it. Latr on I gave it a third try and it took. To me, it doesn't start to get good until the 2nd season, and then really good around the 4th or so. The style of animation isn't my favorite either. There are some really great multiple episode arcs in TCW.

The animation style of Rebels turned me off at first too, but I found the characters and stories more compelling. It also got much better in the second season. The last season of Rebels is excellent.

The animation style of Resistance is much better, and judging by the mid-season trailer they just put up a few days ago, it is going to really pick up in the next few episodes. I see a lot of potential in it running parallel to the new movies.

I don't think we need two ranking threads in the same forum, and since Solo is the more recent film of the two, this one is getting taken out back to be put down. Say bye to Old Yeller, everybody. Woof.
