JCC BATMAN 89: Celebrating 30 years

His early scenes with Jack Palance are really great.

Gotta picture a time before there were three MCU films per year.

"This town needs an enema!"

A time when trolls had to actually write letters and pay for postage in order to whine to WB.

"I'm Batman."

Back when practical effects, in camera still ruled the day.

"I'm glad you're dead. Hahaha. I'm glad you're dead. Woohoo. I'm glad you're dead."

Back in the time when legit method actors were allowed to improvise.

"Remember. Jack. You, are my, number one. Guy."
"Remember, Bob. You. Are my. number one, Guy."

Back when the score sold the plot, even with only a few chromatic bass notes in the piano.

"Brought you a little snack."
"We've been ratted out here boys. Watch it."

Back before they were a dime a dozen.

"Winged freak! Terrorizes. Wait'll they get a load of me."

Back when the origin story was new to most people.

Etc...I could go on, but love it or hate it, Batman 1989 is the film that set the bar for all superhero films that followed it.

And it still remains one of the best of all time. In my top 5 for sure. Maybe even #1 on some days.

And Prince is gangbusters so don't even go there y'all. Shut up already. Housequake. Damn!

 

A dude at the local con I attended this past Sunday was dressed in one of the joker's henchmen from Batman '89; complete with the boombox playing Prince's familiar song from the movie.

 

Pretty funky good music.

 

I wonder how Tim Curry would have done as the Joker in the Batman film. Apparently he would have been real scary as he was too scary for kids to be cast in the animated series.

And then Mark was chosen to voice Chucky in the new Child's Play movie. Go figure.
