Mini Series Cad Bane in TBOBF (spoilers)

The moment they ressurected Maul death in Star Wars became a joke, but I do think Cad is supposed to be dead after this episode.

We all knew this was coming, and I was very happy with how it was handled.

Bane’s one of my absolute favourite characters, so it was tough to see him gone for good. But we’ve gotten so much great content from him over the years that I didn’t really mind. It made for a great final showdown and end to Boba’s current storyline.

Bane went out like a badass too. As you’d expect from the legend.

This is definitely not the last we’ll see of him, because of all the shows set before this one still releasing. I’d love to see a younger live action version at some point.

I definitely think he’s dead.

I think we’ll see more of him in The Bad Batch. I would like to see him train Boba to go after Omega knowing that she’s basically his sister. It’d be a good way to have their relationship sour. Then ultimately Boba chooses bounty hunting over building a relationship with his sister.

 

I can just imagine the interview now.

Interviewer: So how did it feel to bring back this fan-favourite character you helped create over ten years ago and finally give him a definitive ending?

Filoni (Smirking knowingly): What? Who said it's an ending? If anything I'd say it's more of a beginning. Bane's been around for so long, he's been shot, stabbed and force choked dozens of times. I wouldn't be surprised if this isn't the last we see of our hat-loving bounty hunter. Whteher that be in the future period of the mandalorion or more conventional eras- whose to say...

While I'm bummed Cad got knocked off, I also half expected it, as I figured they'd need a climactic death to cap off the show/season.

I do think in retrospect they should've introduced him sooner and probably try to write a compelling arc for him. They could've had him wrestling with his mortality and also not wanting to give up bounty hunting despite his age, which would've been a good dichotomy to Fett wanting out of that life. If they built that in earlier episodes I think it only serves to make their final showdown more effective.

I hope he’s dead.

 

I do think the beeping light on his chest (I went back and checked his brief scenes in the episode - it doesn't flash or beep at any other time that I can tell) as well as the lingering shot on it was supposed to serve as a hook for them to bring Bane back in the future if they wish to do so, but I would be surprised if they do it any time soon.

They were probably just hedging their bets, I wouldn't expect to see him show up in Mando Season 3, for example.

But then, I wasn't expecting us to see Luke again so what the hell do I know....

if they do bring him back, it'd be kinda of a waste of a scene.

 

They brought Palps back and wasted two trilogies so ....

 

I mean, you're right on the money. Well guess Cad Bane is alive because Disney will be Disney.

 

Pretty sure Cad is supposed to be dead but they already cut a Zabrak in two and threw him down a hole and he came back. "No one is ever really gone"

 

I truly hope Cad Bane is dead. He's not a zabrak or Sith. I loved his fight with Boba. It's how I've wanted Cad to meet his end for a long time now.

 

Loved him in this series overall, but like most, I would have preferred that he was introduced much earlier. That said, his scenes with Boba in the finale were just terrifically staged, and his end at Boba's hands was quite fitting.

 

I am just salivating at the thought of a Season 2 BOBF premiere with Fennec 10 minutes in, spouting the magical dialogue: "Somehow Cad Bane returned."

 

One thing I really liked about Cad Bane in the finale specifically is that he brought back a bit of his icy charm. His appearance in chapter 6 was solely cold blooded, which makes some sense since nobody else really knows him. But I loved that he was given some space for more nuance in his interactions with Boba, which lends them an implied history with each other.

And I also preferred some of the lensing on him as well. The backlit lens flare shot stood out in their first encounter, as did the low angles at the end standoff, making him all the more imposing.

 

Yes, it was. I want to know even more about Cad now, though. In canon, bounty hunter notoriety seemed to be this.

Clone Wars and part of the Dark Times: Cad Bane
Later Dark Times and Galactic Civil War: Boba Fett

But Bane surviving all the way until 9 ABY years into the New Republic era makes me wonder what he was doing in between Bad Batch and Book of Boba Fett. How did Boba Fett get so much notoriety if Bane was still active? Maybe it's because Fett worked for Vader and Jabba.

 

A lot more people think he is still alive than I would think.

No one is ever truly gone

 

Cad Bane likely had his reputation hit when people heard of how Boba Fett survived a duel with him, and how Boba nearly killed the Duros. The Bad Batch also shows that Bane is being slowly supplanted by newer, hungrier bounty hunters like Fennec Shand. Plus, with the Jedi practically dead, Cad Bane doesn't stand out as much as he would have. Oh sure, he gets jobs here and there, but the golden age of notoriety is over.

 

Right after the camera moves away from Cad's lifeless body, Boba hovers over the dude and just repeatedly guns him all over to make sure he's really dead. It's the only explanation where Boba was all that time while the rest of the heroes fight on.
