I still don't get the problem with it, unless you mean it's not divorced enough from our reality because he's speaking a language we can understand, but SW has always done that, especially with its human characters.
It's also always paid homage to classic stories from our world (Hoth battle = homage to giant monster movies; Luke walking the plank on a skiff = homage to pirate films; Pod-racing = homage to Ben Hur; Geonosis arena = homage to gladiator films; etc, etc, etc.)

It's one long homage to the history of the magic of cinema.. guess why I didn't take to the books/original EU very much

But…were you aware this was a nod to the movie High Society before I posted that? Because I was just guessing. And if it isn’t a nod, what exactly is wrong with the line?

This isn’t 4Chan or Truth Social. I have a measure of respect for people here. And so when they post something, I (generally) care. And in this case, as the meaning of their post isn’t clear, I…care about understanding it.

Also, I have to kill time during my “4-hour sitting in bed posting on JCF before I fall asleep” routine. And asking the same question over and over again really helps with that. I’ve already destroyed on hour with just this swell party topic.

My other option is to drink more whiskey and fall asleep earlier.

I never noticed until today when it was pointed out on reddit, that K-2SO has yellow markings, while every other K2 series droid in Rogue One, Andor and the video games have red.

They're pretty thin, so probably why I never noticed.

Of course, that's the whole point. It's the same line. Not subtle.

it is obviously referencing a new species 'The Swells'

These will be very important to the plot, probably towards the very end. We might even get a line "Many Swells died to give us this information"

    I mean come on! ;)

    No one is saying that.
It's just that people aren't particularly bothered by a rather obscure reference that no one who isn't in the know would ever pick up on.

This. It’s an obscure reference and absolutely nobody said “that’s why it’s good, duh.” Out of context, it’s difficult to judge it as a good line or not. But on the face of it, it seems like a very in-character thing for Krennic to say, especially if it’s said sarcastically or ironically. So if that’s the context (let’s say he’s sarcastically referring to a gathering that will be very bad for his rival), that’s why I might like it. Because it’s in-character. Not because it’s a reference to High Society, which is irrelevant to its quality.

Yes, exactly. Based on the character of Krennic in both Rogue One and Catalyst, it sounds like something he would say. It's his kind of language.
That it’s a reference is neither here nor there, but it's a fitting and fun nod for the, let’s face it, few people in the audience familiar with Cole Porter or High Society (or Iggy Pop and Debbie Harry's version I suppose).

I was actually going to add a postscript predicting a snide response, but then decided to give you the benefit of the doubt, thinking that maybe you’d choose to be self-deprecating about it, and recognize the comment for the strawman (and tepid joke at the expense of people here who’ve lauded Andor’s scripts, and didn’t see the problem with this line) that it obviously was. But nope. I hate it when my instincts are right about annoying things! :)

ETA: That said, and for what it’s worth, Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra singing “what a swell party this is” in High Society is one of the best musical numbers in Hollywood history, IMO. It’s got an infectious (and hilarious) energy that I’ll never forget. I demand a Krennic and Meero version now.

There’s a creature that typically lives under a bridge that might have an answer to that.

Maybe your reading level stopped there, because I didn’t bring up anything—I made an irreverent quip with the subtext of “yall are taking this too seriously.” But, as I have learned over and over again, if I say anything to disrupt the rhythmic rite of the ****, I am written off as a troll (from what I can gather, I thankfully don’t see Bor’s posts)

I have trouble with thaaaaat! I wanted this to last a reallllllllly long timeeeee!
    Same
    I neeeed suspense
Or in the last two months... reality surpassed sci-fi by far IMO
    Sameeeeeeeeeee
.....ha.... very bold of you to assume that my ADHD brain can get a season in one go and decide to watch one episode per week...
    ...very bold...
If me gets one entire season of 12 episodes one evening at 11PM on a work day, me watch all episodes in one go then faint on the couch and go to work...
...the only way I wait one week is if you MAKE ME wait one week! I have no restraint in this...
I love the stretching out and the wait but I am not able to create that by myself!
On the bright side my ADHD brain is very good in crisis, disasters, apocalypses and dystopian futures so...
... I am all set for what's coming next ( not referring to Andor's Season 2 of course...I meant real life)
May the force be with you all and long live the Resistance!

After Sean Bakers speech at the Oscars I think we all need to get out and watch more films at the cinema again. The streaming netflix fad has forced us more into our own deconpartmentalised bubbles. I think this has made reaction to the TV shows so much more divided. If they were films I think reception and obviously some parts of production would have been different. Covid really did a job on us!!
Star wars really needs to get back on the big screen.
So just getting massive chunks of Andor at once is going to be exciting and like going to the(star wars)movies once a week for a month
Bet Andor would look amazing on the big screen!!

If this is humor, well done.

If not, then you have correctly surmised my assumption that adults are capable of the awesome responsibility of turning off a TV.

The tone of this thread is tiresome. Respect one another's wrong minded opinions and engage with points, not the pointy people doing the pointing.

I read that in Tarkin's voice,

Speaking of which, please, please for everything that is holy do not insert a deep-fake A.I. Peter Cushing into this.

Let one of the most mild-mannered, contemplative actors to ever grace the screen rest in peace.
