I just spent a crazy, scary, spooky, hilarious amount of money for Kendrick Lamar tickets.

    It's Spotify Wrapped day.

Once again BTS are my top artist. And I'm in the top 0.5% of their listeners.

This blast from the past showed up in my shuffle:

I'm not normally a fan of slide guitar, but wow! And what even is that rhythm? An 8/4 over 4/4 syncopation?

Not coincidentally it was also Apple’s wrap up day; my top artist was Skálmöld as I have been completely obsessed with their specific take on folk metal since stumbling onto them back in April.

Also I’m in the top 500 Johnny Clegg listeners. Step it up, Apple Music users, I have no business being that high up.

I have been listening to Lin Manuel-Miranda's concept album about the freaking Warriors. Opening track is great and the metal tracks are actually pretty hard

Oh yeah I've heard that's good. But I've never actually seen Warriors.

"Warriors, come out and play!" Is the most memorable bit and the lead track of the album

I watched it for the first time earlier this year and that movie genuinely rules.

He’s in his own lane. The Brickology is being well reviewed received.

All mainstream larger rappers kind of accepted that this year is Kendrick’s and to just try to stay out of the way

So for like a year most of the music I have been listening to is Phonk or Synthwave, but I think I am starting to get tired of it. Until like 2022 I didn’t really care about music and would listen to anything, but now I feel lost now that I am getting sick of the two genres I actually love. I like Pop hell I still like most music, but I don’t love a whole lot of music either if that makes sense. I think I need a break, but honestly I’ve been looking and there have been no genres that have grabbed me as much as Synthwave and Phonk.

I mean listen to this absolute banger

I think my ideal music is just instruments. Or electronics or whatever. Ideally no singing.

this aligns with the fact that when I was younger we are talking like 15 years ago. I absolutely loved classical music.

yes I know there are other genres that are similar to both of these. EDM, Techno, but none of them have hit the same way which sucks

if anyone wants to know what Phonk is here’s what I think is the most popular song of the genre it has several sub genres

I think k the reason I have grown sick of both these genres is they are relatively small. And new songs that aren’t atrocious are rare. And you can always listen to the same like 400 songs so many times

Claudio Sanchez of Coheed and Cambria doing various covers, his Pumpkins Stumbeline is pretty bang on. I don't know the Taylor Swift song but sounds good too!

Any Flogging Molly fans? Apparently lead singer Dave King suffered a brain hemorrhage recently and was in a coma. He’s recovering but still pretty scary.

I’ve always been a big rock guy, but I’m starting to get more into pop and rap too now. As far as newer pop artists go: Teddy Swims, Dua Lipa, Sabrina Carpenter, and Billie Eilish definitely all have my attention right now.

    That's horrible.
I've been a fan since Drunken Lullabies (which apparently came out 23 years ago; yikes), and have seen them live a few times.
Here's hoping for a speedy and complete recovery for Dave.

Thanks to a podcast titled One Song, I was yesterday years old when I learned that Roberta Flack’s Killing Me Softly With His Song is actually a cover, and that the original is about Don McLean, singer of American Pie
