Not a fan of that, IMO, it is overly simplified design, even by Rebels standard. Since this model was officially established to be an early version of AT-AT, it is understandable why Fallen Order used it, but for a post-Endor movie it is no longer an excuse.

It does make some sense if we're dealing with more Imperial left-overs. They just have the old stuff like proto-AT-ATs and Turbotanks. All the really good stuff was either being developed by Gideon directly in secret (and in limited qty), scrapped at Jakku, scrapped by the NR, or was funneled out to the First Order in hiding.

Yeah, these are probably Warlords who can't be too choosey about which scraps of the Imperial War Machine they get to employ. And from what little I know of the post-Endor timeline in the new canon, it seems like the Warlords were fewer and more poorly-equipped than their old EU counterparts. They seem like they'd be more likely to be whipping out TIE Uglies than TIE Defenders.

Also, since Sigourney is a Rebel pilot and Zeb is also in the film... will we be getting my boy Paul Sun-Hyung Lee?

Oh, these warlords definitely have at last one TIE Defender. But it's just currently serving as a rusted-out ice cream stand at their base. ;)

Yeah, I could see it be something like that.

Particularly since the version shown previously had the ESB type AT-ATs, so this feels like a deliberate choice rather a mistake or laziness.

In legends too I remember the remnant often using older or second line equipment - like in Crimson Empire when the local warlord attack force had juggernauts and tie crawlers rather than AT-ATs.

Paul's character is part of that squadron, it feel appropriate for him to be there, even if only in a small role.

On that note, I am honestly kind of surprised we didn't see a TIE Defender among Thrawn's forces and just regular ties. Though admittedly I could see him keeping that in reserve for later.

Looking at the state of his Star Destroyer, I don't think they had a big manufacturing operation on Peridea. If would not shock me at all, though, if, like the hyperdrive operation Morgan had running, there was also a TIE Defender production operation on the QT that'll show itself in Ahsoka S2 or maybe be an unexplained problem in Mando and Grogu

What do you mean by "the version shown previously"?

As for Defenders- for Thrawn to have any in exile, he would have had to have had some aboard the Chimera when it got whale-yeeted. And with the factories down prior to that thanks to Kanan/Pryce, I think the only one they had was the one that Hera took out getting back to Lothal. And, even if they did have others, they would have been deployed elsewhere, not chilling in Chimera's bays.

But I fully expect to see more now that he's back. Especially now that we know that Morgan was behind the design and has been busy prepping for Thrawn's return.

There was a clip at a past event - D23 I believe - from Mando and Grogu, and there was one of the same shots of Mando riding past an attacking walker though with a different model of AT-AT

I see, that does make a lot of sense, and it would be fun to see. I hope that is the case.

I absently wonder if we'll get a Battle of Coruscant this season.

It's the logical move for Thrawn.

Given the production budget I’d prefer they allocate to a bombardment of the surface, I hope they save that for the film.

I think any battle of Corucant will happen in the big crossover Heir to the Empire movie.
