It's definitely about "energy production," they need this project to generate UNLIMITED POWER! Which definitely means abundant free energy that will improve citizen's quality of life and not anything else.

This show plus Rebels have kind of clarified that the original Rebel Alliance was sort of in a state of organizational and membership flux before Rogue One - that because Luthen (strategic oversight) and Mothma (logistics and funding) are sometimes the *only* connecting tissue between various Rebel cells, coordination and cooperation between them can be firm and widespread one moment, than completely collapse into autonomy the next. It's not just that the Alliance will eventually centralize and amalgamate itself into a by and large singular force, but that Luthen and Mothma are sort of repeatedly forming up "coalitions" for missions and activities and then immediately allowing them to separate again afterwards.

Saw and his Partisans in Season One and in early Rebels is clearly a member of multiple "coalitions" that work under the Rebel Alliance banner several times before Rogue One, but fail to comprehensively join when the Alliance finally gets a clear chain of command (probably after finally having the Mon Cala supply enough capital ships to create a genuine fleet while Mothma finally rallies something like a political council), though Cassian and others maintain contacts with them.

It'd be really cool if the "rubber meets the road" moment is something like Mon/her funding/political leadership and the fleet being joined together - whereupon a balance has to be struck between the freedom of action and the reputation and trustworthiness of an actual military/political power.

Though as to whether there's a more cynical and morally pragmatic part of the alliance in the OT timeline...
Rogue One might have already shown that conflict happening... and sort of ending in a stalemate that Mon Mothma *might* have turned to her advantage.

Mon and the council's orders on Galen Erso were the more compassionate "capture" one, then a more morally ambivalent countermanding kill order was given to Cassian by his superior... and in the resulting fracas caused by those orders, Galen still ended up dead, Jyn and Cassian both rescued each other but almost came to blows, and the debriefing would have confirmed the original order was the strategically wiser one...

And then the Rogue One crew just cut itself out of the chain of command entirely, even from the amoral pragmatists, and Mon's little grin and Raddus's enthusiastic support implies they took advantage to ex-post-facto authorize the mission.

Exactly. It would have been the 1st time to ever do something like that. And it would have been very cool thing on film. But regardless, her time is coming this season. Whatever that may be.

I listened to the Catalyst Audiobook the other year. It was wonderful.

Yes I was aware that the energy production had something to do with the death star but Krennic says something specifically in the speech. I just don't recall the details.

Given that Saw's crew was shown in the trailer, we're probably gonna have more action and mission-based episodes for the next few weeks. (Given the rather divisive on the "Maya Pei" or "Wedding" scenes, the next couple episodes may kickstart the action into full gear.)

I'm hoping we get to see Moroff and the other supporting Partisans get some time to shine. (Maybe have Weeteef do a milly-whip while lobbing sticky grenades)

The wedding scenes are brilliant. And tragic.

Everyone pretending something they are not. Everyone is wearing a mask. They're all undercover so to speak.

And we have Mon, who has solid morals and drive, and realizes how evil the Empire and how needs to be brought down, all while the high society around her seems not to care at all. Its here, that she realizes she's now doing things that go against her normal principles. Her entire world is now spinning around her, faster and faster, out of her control, and all she can do now to keep up that pretense, to keep wearing the mask, is to drink and dance like everyone else is doing.

The scene alone is also very relatable. How many of us have been to a wedding where a relative gets a bit too drunk and wasted.

Luthan was right. He had to give up everything for a sunrise he'll never see. He's become darker in order to survive in this world, in order to accomplish his goals. His former life is gone, and the public face is a mask.

Mon has to pay that price too. Although she seems to survive long enough to see that sunrise.

Shocked and impressed by the seriousness of the themes this show is willing to tackle, even compared to season 1. The Mon Mothma sub-plot and the Bix sub-plot were both brilliant examinations of how patriarchal structures go hand in hand with authoritarianism.

Hard to escape the feeling that this is the last time we'll get that kind of Star Wars, but I'm gonna enjoy it while it's here.

I agree with a few people that the Yavin IV stuff was a bit of a drag, I get why it's there, I just think it could have been handled in a more entertaining and impactful way. Not a big deal though, just a little less interesting to watch than the rest of this phenomenal show.

Also, is Dedra being a product of a Kinder Block what Partagaz meant in season 1 about the bar being higher for her performance at the ISB? The Empire needs people like her to succeed to show that its fascist orphanages are a social good?

Divisive takes (My laptops text editor messed up my initial post)

On Facebook, I have met people who are mixed on the Yavin and Wedding scenes, some like them for adding to the Rebellions origin but others have told me that it takes away from Cassian background story.

we got the Cassian backstory in S1. I'm a sucker for an ensemble piece and that's what SW has always been about. I'm surprised by some folks reactions.

Some people get bored by a more sophisticated build of plot or things they don't see as relevant. I saw a post above about this being all the most boring aspects of real life for instance.

Well his backstory still has some questions that would be nice to get answers on. Not to say I haven't enjoyed episodes 1-3

true. I enjoy when we get to see the mundane day to day activities and little details in SW. this first arc did a great job moving the story forward while world building and expanding the lore. whether that's showing the upscale apartment living of our favorite fascist couple, the life of farmers on Mina-Rau, or the ancient customs of Chandrilla.

There’s been no mention of Felicity Jones to the best of my knowledge. Is there any chance that we will actually see what she was up to prior to the events of Rogue One? Or will they just be talking about her father and how he has a daughter and just flash up like a hologram of her briefly.

I was hoping she would join the show by the end. If anyone has any spoiler info on that please quote me and spoiler tag. Even if it’s to say it’s confirmed she is not. I’ve seen conflicting things before on the subject.

OK. But in the Star Wars fan YouTube sphere, at least, it seems to be universally lauded.

I have no doubt Mon would do whatever it takes when it is needed. She may not carry a blaster, but I she's more than willing to get her hands duty. She "sacrificed" her daughter for the rebellion. It's not hard to believe she would kill for it.

It may just have been luck of the draw, but from the books I've read the Empire makes a habit of destroying planets and committing genocide. There is Rebels, where we have the strip mining of Lothal as the population of Genosha. The book where Kanan and Hera meet, the Empire is stripping that planet as well. Also seems to be Morgan Elsbeth MO.

Right. Though Mon didn't just sacrifice her daughter for the rebellion. She also did so to save her and her family's skin.

    They're having a good time.

Mon is going through a Greek tragedy. To help save the galaxy, she has to sacrifice a lot. Disney is giving her the same treatment Lucas gave Yoda in the prequels. It's saying, like, "This woman's life was not paradise. She lost a lot to help heal this galaxy."

Palpatine is the dark lord parasite who hurt the galaxy and enjoyed it. Mon is the quiet, diligent leader who lost a lot on the way to becoming a true revolutionary. She's noble in intent; Palpatine is sadistic in intent. Yet despite all this, they're very human, with Mon being in a more relatable sense, whereas Sidious Palpatine is just a simplified vase of all the worst aspects of humankind rolled into annoying, evil sorcerer.

I'm not sure about that. If Andor is a big success, I think there will be similar style projects in the future.
