heh, hopefully....though if they don't know what Rogue One is about, what are the odds they know Luke is "Red 5"
Good job by not including Biggs in the battle, could have been an easy screw up. The deleted scenes in ANH live on!!!
They're, how should I say, dumbasses if they thought that Porkins-looking fella had any resemblance to Mark Hamill
So when Vander says "Red Leader, this is Gold Leader...we're starting our attack run on the shield gate" that sounds almost identical to his line from ANH, minus the shield gate part. Since this is unused ANH footage, does that mean there was originally a "shield gate" on the Death Star and it somehow figured into the battle? Or is it just the same line from ANH but with the extra words dubbed in?
If they had old footage of Wedge and Porkins I would have liked to have seen them. But beyond that may have been too much.
Wedge couldn't have been there, as he clearly hadn't seen the Death Star prior to ANH. However, the voice actor who voiced Wedge in ANH did do the V.O. on the speakers at Yavin in RO. Presumably, Wedge was on desk duty that day.
Or he was occupied with the TIEs or Red Squadron never got close enough or his view was obscured by Star Destroyers. The Death Star didn't orbit Scarif directly above the shield gate.
I have to say I fel feel like they've really improved over time every movie they seem to be better and better and more adept, less clumsy. The ones in Solo seemed positively ace.
I’ve always appreciated how the one Imperial officer we see who takes the rebels as a serious threat is the only one who’s actually faced them, and we know it did not go well. He’s like “Guys, this is serious. We actually have a problem here.” And they all mock him like, “YOU apparently might have a problem if your navy can’t do its job right but us big brain Moffs invested our resources in something that will actually be successful at upholding our rule. We don’t have to worry about any kind of attack with this bad boy, surprise or otherwise.” Of course we all know how that turns out. Every time I see two Star Destroyers and shield gate being destroyed I can’t help but hear “A danger to your Starfleet...” in my head and smile now that we know what had Tagge so concerned.
I think the blue squadron pilot uniforms might be my favorite of the OT era now. Yes the orange look is classic, but it was always a bit gaudy. And the red, green, and gray versions you saw in ROTJ were meh at best. The blue ones just look really sharp though.
Ultimate squadron: Red leader Wedge Biggs Merrick Luke Dutch vander Porkins Poe Taille Hera Snap wexley Bravo leader Can't remember the name of the a wing pilot from rotj who crashes into the destroyer
Rebel pilots have always been the best part of Star Wars to me, and thus the best characters in any movie ever. There’s just something magical about their cramped cockpits and iconic suits+helmet that’s magical in a way that’s hard to put into words, but Rogue One absolutely nailed it. It was so awesome to see Gold Leader and Red Leader in action without being doomed by the plot this time. I about cried in the theater the first time I saw the Battle of Scarif lol. It’s like they wrote it specifically with me in mind.
Me too, which is why I'm loving our RPG about rebel pilots: https://boards.theforce.net/threads/star-wars-black-sheep-always-accepting-new-players.50046508/
I loved seeing those squadron leaders return for the battle of Scarif. That little bit of continuity was one of my favorite surprises in Rogue one. Nice to give their characters a little more glory-especially since we knew they were going to die on their next mission!
Blue Squadron should have been spared a little, imagine if Merrick and his company teamed up with Marvel's Rogue Squadron, that would excellent to see on paper. Though in fairness, that might be the U-Wing fanboy inside of me talking....
Talking about x wing pilots. I wonder who piloted the partisan x wing crashed on the Jeddah street we see in the film. I'm hoping this mystery is answered in the last arc of Andor as there has been a picture of the K2SO actor laying on one that looks very similar
