I think that your already hit the nail on the head in regards to Baltar.
It's been awhile since I watched the series so I'd have to go back and rewatch that scene, but I think that Baltar had more or less resigned himself to accepting the role he had been given in the destruction of the colonies and their road to Earth.

While I agree with pretty much everything you said, I don't know if Rosyln so much gets a pass because she is the President of the Colonies but rather that the people support her actions and give her a pass for most of it. The ballot box stuffing though, there were so many people complicit in that IIRC.

I hated Roslyn so much while watching that series. Reading that last post just reminded me of all my forgotten hatred for that character. Ugh.

Did the finale void the entire series?
It didn't matter where they ended up or what they did because in the end none of them get what they want, apart from Lee, Helo and Athena. And Balter.
Heck maybe I've got that confused a little but that is probably because it isn't clear what they want. And it changes throughout.

Why? The TV show was brilliant. Do we really need this?

The studio would no doubt be demanding it due to the resurgence of space epics.

we don't really need any movie, yet someone always asks that question whenever they remake anything.

Going by the trend, I expect a BSGCU (with 57 installments planned before the first comes out). I also expect the movies to shallowly ape past franchise successes and/or be same-y, quippy generic action flicks.

Ordinarily I'd agree with that, except that in this case, they're remaking a highly praised critical hit, so the question is valid.

I'm personally more intrigued by the Netflix Lost In Space series. I didn't finish Battlestar Galactica with a thirst to know what came next for the characters nor did I feel any plot thread left unexplored. Ronald D. Moore, perhaps exhaustively in places, wrapped up the series brilliantly.

uh, that's almost always the case. they don't often remake things that didn't go over well the first time.

De Luca is one of the producers of Universal’s Fifty Shades of Grey movies and produced its 2014 monster movie Dracula Untold.

Stuber’s Bluegrass is coming off of Ted 2 and is prepping the Boston Marathon Bombing movie Patriot’s Day with Pete Berg directing and Mark Wahlberg starring. The shingle is currently in post-production on The Free State of Jones, written and directed by Gary Ross and starring Matthew McConaughey, and Central Intelligence, New Line's comedy starring Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson.

Tells me everything I need to know.

    "Younger, edgier, more humour"

Thanks but no thanks. Two hours isn't enough and there is no way in hell you can beat the reimaginged series. It isn't possible.

I thought there was a movie already in development but then I remembered that was Stargate by the original creator following that canon.

Meanwhile I still want Caprica on Blu Ray (it is getting closer and closer now-english version included with this uears 'ultimate' boxset).
On a related note I still need Stargate Sg-1 on blu ray and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

    One thing left to say:
All of this has happened before and it will happen again.

(Plus no one has responded to my previous comment from a few months ago)

But that's why Lost In Space has me intrigued. This is obviously just my opinion, but Lost In Space was NEVER good. Again, I know that will offend a few people here, but that's how I feel. But, I think Lost In Space is a good idea on paper to develop into something amazing on screen. Many of my favourite shows are Netflix originals, so Lost In Space might finally become, at minimum, watchable.

To me, Lost In Space has the most room for reinvention because it needs it the most.

    Cough Robocop,
The originals were okay but creepy. The new one was terrible. Now the actual things you could do with it are actually quite interesting. Instead they opted for an action movie when the robotics and humanity could play a huge role.

    Cough Predator/Alien
Maybe I am in the minority here, the reboot/sequel/'new one' will probably be just action.
Predators needs to continue. I want to see how a warrior race exists and how the predators themselves live with it. I also need to see the parallels with Humanity and their reaction to the escapees.

I wish they could do an alternate Season 3 and 4 where the god stuff and Final Five ancient cylons didn't happen. They just continued the war/political thriller of season 1 and 2.
The Final Five is instead actual cylons hiding in the fleet and have a dangerous effect on the fleet. The infighting continues and Admiral Cain isn't killed. (That is where I would start it but still have New Caprica) The Cylons aren't controlled by Cavill but do have a leadership.

I love the show but the Ellen Tigh resurrection was a let down. There is a disconnect between season 1 and 2 and then 3 and 4. I like it all but I think the starting episodes are let down by the end episodes in the sense that they don't really give them justice or an ending.

Agreed. As concept, Battlestar is inherently really, really dark, since its basically asking the question what happens when you have the bad fortune to survive the apocalypse, and RDM wrestled with those questions brilliantly, so there isn't really a need, at least not right now, to revisit Battlestar and certainly not as a campy retro space opera. Something along the lines of Lost in Space would be a much better fit with Star Trek, Star Wars and Guardians of the Galaxy. ST/SW/GOTG are optimistic adventures. Battlestar works a lot better as grim, gritty character drama.

It's not creepy. What you're responding to is actually the focal point of the blood and violence which is done to the point of not dominating the scenes but actually becoming the scenes themselves. The scene in the boardroom, for instance, isn't so much creepy as it is tongue-in-cheek mean spirited. Robocop isn't creepy, it's darkly comedic with a very cynical eye on politics.

You are the only other human being on Earth I've met who finished this show, so I'm interested to hear your thoughts on the whole thing.

Im not to thrilled on a BSG movie. It will show the whole fall of the colonies and the beginning on the path toward Earth, a story that was just finished up in the previous reboot not that long ago.

I think if there ever was more BSG, it should be set in the nBSG universe. A sequel to that show is out of the question for obvious reasons. But I think a future prequel could still work. Yes Caprica had issues, and Blood and Chrome never was picked up for a series, but I still want to see more of the 1st Cylon War, and in a time in which Man can put up a good fight since they havn't had there military almost wiped out yet.

If another prequel ever did happen, I would want to see the beginning of the 1st Cylon War. See the various forces of the (at the moment) not united Colonies working together against this new threat. We could see the predecessor to the Battlestar (battlestars didn't exist yet when the war first began) and the eventually uniting of the 12 colonies. How the cylons acquired basestars and raiders could be seen. A focus on a all new crew so we are not sure who will or will not survive the war (unlike focus on young Adama in blood and chrome). Seeing more of those older cylon models would be nice. There should also be a human criminal element who is taking advantage from this war. A focus also on ground battles.

Instead of being about a story of finding a new home, the premise is reacting to a surprise attack from Man's former servants, and uniting various human cultures to defend their original homes.

Or perhaps instead of starting at the beginning of the war, the show follows a crew of one (that isn't the Galactica) of the original 12 battlestars.

Fleshing out the nBSG more could be a way to bring the 1st Cylon War to the Big Screen instead of simply rebooting BSG......again......

That would sure be a way to have a big enough budget to show large space battles (bigger then what the show presented) and even large ground battles between centurions and colonials which BSG couldn't pull off previously.

    Think this

The film, while being in the nBSG universe, could be made in a manner in which the audience doesn't need to watch BSG or Caprica to know what is going on.

If you mean Caprica then unfortunately I haven't seen it (yet).

I'm still hesitant about getting the french blu ray but will probably get around to it in the summer.
I have listened to some of the soundtracks though because I couldn't stop myself-All of this has happened, Apothesis Darkly Sentient. I really like the end song though and I hope it is what people say it is.

I'm not sure why they hold back from Caprica, I imagine the majority of people who watch BSG would then want to see it. In the ultimate box set (minus the spin off films) it specifically mentions the show. Maybe I should email them and ask.

But certainly once I have seen it, I would be up for discussing it.
Not a case of if but when. (Likely Summer)
