Wasn't the original question about bootlegs?

Yes, the original question was about bootlegs. ;)

We all know they exist, and a general 'what if' question is fairly acceptable. It's not like MyFirstStarWars posted contact details for the guy. What the JC doesn't like is saying you can get OT bootlegs from the largest internet auction site. It's pretty obvious to all and sundry that it can be done this way. But the fact is that LFL's lawyers can make these posts look like the JC is condoning bootlegs (especially with the iminent DVD release) - which would get them in a lot of hot water. Which we don't want. Obviously.

Trust me, Slayer; I learned this the hard way too. Some of the most prized parts of my collection are bootlegs. It's just generally a no-no to mention certain aspects of it.

If I'm not making sense, you could PM Twilek or Damon and they'll probably be able to explain it better. [face_blush]

    Peace out, B.

    Hang on folks!

For starters, pirate VHS and betamax films didn't start arriving until 78, and then, it was very limited.

In 79 Superman pirates arrived in the US and the UK. The Uk generally was about 6-9 months behind the US at that point.

I'm not saying it isn't real, but its unlikely.

As for the old 16mm version. I have two UK versions. They cost a fortune back then, but it was the only official way you could buy the films.

There are two "edits". One clocks in at about 6 mins, the other at 22 mins.

Biggs is NOT in it! Or gold leader. However, the "missed" rope swing is. Its one of the longest scenes on it. It is silent throughtout.

Snootles, you may or may not realize that if you REALLY do have the missed rope-swing footage then you are in possession of a piece of evidence that could change an urban legend forever!! =D=

Is there anyway you could digitize that footage? Store it for future generations and also post it on here? I'm willing start up a collection fund for paying for the process!

DUDE WE HAVE *GOT* TO GET THE MISSED ROPE-SWING FOOTAGE SHOWN TO PEOPLE SO THOSE OF US WHO REMEMBER IT CAN FINALLY PROVE THAT IT IS *NOT* AN URBAN LEGEND!!

I am going to check my film! I don't have a reel to reel so I have to get the flash light and look at each frame!

Actually, when I was a little kid, back in the early 1980s, we had boots of each movie, but they were from the VHS version. They were taped over long ago, unfortunately (well, maybe not; they were probably played to death); they were deemed redundant after we got the first box set in 1990 or so.

I actually have a bootleg copy of Empire Strikes Back. An old friend of my dad's had a son in the Army at the time and Lucas showed the film to the servicemen. Well, the son took in a camera and his dad gave my dad a copy of it. The image isn't bad, it's the sound that is awful.

If someone could get the original original print of Star Wars (NOT ANH!!!) from '77 I would love to chip in some money to make a remastered edition. But I have a funny feeling Lucas personally set fire to the original films somewhere on the Ranch. They embarrass him for some reason, and other than my LDs I don't think there will ever be a non-CGI infested release for the Nostalgia buffs. I was born 10 years after SW came out and I am still a nut for those original films, although I can appreciate the Special Ed.s for what they are I will wait until the DVDs come out to make my final judgement on the changes as a whole that Lucas has brought upon the holy trilogy. And I plan on backing up the LD films onto DVD anyway for archival reasons ;).

    >>I'm not saying it isn't real, but its unlikely<<

My cousin had this boot back in '78 or '79, bought off the streets of NYC. I remember it well.

I had the ROtJ - indeed it was in WS & very good quality for a bootleg.

So I can vouch for both boots.

I mentioned it once earler, but people keep saying it should be done despite the fact that it already has.
The 1977 version of SW has already been restored and remastered to widescreen dvd.
Its been mentioned on the www.originaltrilogy.com forums.

A friend of mine found an original VHS tape. The box was the one from 1977 when the movie was jsut called "Star Wars". The box was in relativly good condition too. He paid 5 or 6 dollars for it.

    What a find...

Man, I could swear I have seen a version with Luke throwing that grappling hook twice...or a scene with Luke walking on the little bridge that he grabs onto after he flies out that window in TESB. I TOTALLY remember a scene where he pulled himself up and it was shown from the angle looking DOWN as he got up and walked off screen...

I know for a fact Luke walked on the bridge before he goes inside for the fight before he flies out the window, I never noticed that was cut. It was cut?

And I have a copy of ANH without the Ep. IV as well, I never knew it was A New Hope until I bought the 15th anniversary VHS P&S version from 1992 on video, since my copies wree so dark and old. From years of watching...

    Anyway, there you go.

    Madine out

Ok, this is the one he got:

    [image=http://www.davisdvd.com/images/starwars/sw6.jpg]

He told me it was the 1977 edition. I feel bad for believing him. The one he got came out in 1992.

I know thye frown on naming where to get boots, so I won't be specific...
Just go ask around in the www.originaltrilogy.com forums and people will point you in the right direction.
