    did it say episdode 4 on the opening crawl for star wars on the theatrical release in 1977?

    No, the "Empire of Dreams" documentary shows the original crawl, and it just stared off with the crawl itself, no episode number.

    It also had some format changes as well (ie: DEATH STAR" was all on one line originally).

    "Episode IV" didn't appear until the release of The Empire Strikes Back...when Lucas released the first one again...
